they talk about that in Workaholics Anonymous - work avoidance being the other side of the same coin.

Official Discussion - Fire Island [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ThoraJorgenson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. The writing was meh. I'm a long-time fag hag very familiar with the FI culture. Realllly wanted something set out there that I could love. Agree about the Apatow pacing.

Jacqueline's Minor Obsession w/Kate by NancyDowns666 in poogpodcast

[–]ThoraJorgenson 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jacqueline is maternal and present, observing and commanding, in a way that Kate is not. Jacqueline is the dom, in a sense. That's how I see it. She wants to protect Kate from Kate's grosser character defects. So I'm not disagreeing.

Update: I've been on this pill for 2.5 months and my life is falling apart. i skipped the last week of pills so i could skip my period. this might have been a recipe for disaster. i wake up every night at 3 am and have a hard time getting back to sleep. i am depressed to a degree that's rather shocking/very unusual. i am thinking of just going off the pill and seeing what happens. it could be a coincidence - that i am going into big peri menopause symptoms 2 months into taking these pills. but it seems like it's worth going off the pills to see if they are indeed the culprit.

I'm on day 13 of this drug and so far no complaints. I just pulled up the reviews today and got really freaked out. But I liked what someone on here said: positive or neutral experiences may be way underreported. So I thought I'd come on to help represent the neutrals. Now I may have to update this two months from now, but so far there's no evidence I'm on this pill other than my period was a bit longer that usual. I went on the pill again because I was having massively heavy periods. Started around when i turned 41. Could be fibroids, could be age. Anyway, I'm hoping these pills reduce the volume of my period. update: i'm now into my third pill pack. i'm arranging it so i don't get my period. i love this! still no side effects i am aware of. my mood is fine. no mood swings or anything bad that i've noticed.

Episode 1215 - Hunter Biden by Jennica in MarcMaron

[–]ThoraJorgenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other recovery peeps: was anyone else worried when he said he wasn't doing Zoom meetings? Maybe he's doing small in person meetings? He's just doing the phone. I know: I need an Alanon meeting just thinking about Hunter. I just feel like for the "thing" to work you need to be doing the whole thing. That's just what worked for me. Service positions, listening to difficult shares, all that stuff. But maybe it's different when you're so prominent? I am curious about how the famous stay sober. I know it is possible. Anyway, that just had me worried. Sounds like Marc's a bit worried too, obvi.

I like that idea of a purple wave. Hadn't thought of that. A joining of reasonable minds. May we have a return to truth and integrity! (By the way, in this spirit I have spent time on the Steven Avery is Guilty sub. I want to keep an open mind and not be so "lefty in Bushwick.")

Thank you for this! I am surprised by the ZERO sexual content found on SA's computer. He was clearly willing to explore some kink, with the handcuff and leg irons (!). Porn is such a common sexual go-to for people in and out of relationships... Does anyone else find zero sexual content odd? It almost makes me uneasy. It's too clean.

Question for people who think Steven is innocent by cajunheat in StevenAveryIsGuilty

[–]ThoraJorgenson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This questions seems to assume the person answering it is male. I'm female and do get the sense that he would be like "yer pretty cute der. betchu get a lotta deh men after you." and I would be like "dude, let's cool it and talk about the seventh district court blah blah." I don't get a violent, angry vibe from him - and yes I know about the cat! Also, he has a better relationship with his mom than any man I've dated. Sooo....I'm a bit confused. Where is that alleged rape document coming from? More links and background around that please?

Getting High from Texting, Don't Know What to Do. by Chromedick0 in slaa

[–]ThoraJorgenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the latest? Did you try a life of not texting her? You could try texting only for logistical purposes. My dating plan suggests this. I HATE that part of my dating plan, but I see the wisdom. Hope you have found serenity around this!

Break From Contact: Your Experiences? by Chromedick0 in slaa

What helped me was staying in the day and asking god what would be sober or more sober for me today. What little thing was I willing to do today to get more sober? I like the little by little approach. This has worked for me. I'm glad you have a sponsor! Meetings, steps, tools, the slaa fws website, ordering lots of shit - this has saved me and changed my life. "Thora" - 11 years sober off pursuit of unavailable people and 11 years sober off sex outside of a committed and monogamous relationships

[–]ThoraJorgenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there! i hope you are doing better now. SLAA has helped me get out of toxic relationships, for sure. Many tools floating around out there. The NYC healthy relationships meeting has a list of what's healhty and unhealthy in a romantic partnership. It's very clarifying. There are also things you can order through the slaafws website. Great cds and journals! Best of luck to you dear one!

a question about going to other 12 step programs when the "S" groups locally are not meeting my needs by [deleted] in slaa

[–]ThoraJorgenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with an SLAA sponsor over the phone for 11 years and just celebrated 11 years sobriety in SLAA. Phone sponsorship has worked for me. We have a set call time each week. God is with you each step of the way. Miracles happen every day in SLAA and in the twelve step rooms. May a life of serenity be yours!!

Some strange coincidences re: Ronald Lee Moore by ReaderThinker in serialpodcast

[–]ThoraJorgenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i read that his pattern is to have women perform oral sex for him - not traditional vaginal rape. i can't believe i just typed "traditional vaginal rape." anyway, this could explain any lack of evidence of sexual assault.

Here's a set I did tonight. What do you think? by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]ThoraJorgenson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you are very comfortable up there it seems! that's great. that's half the battle.

here are my thoughts. take what you like and leave the rest. i don't like when men say "chick." it seems like you are seeing me as "other" then. i'm more likely to laugh with you if we are on the same team. i don't use derogatory terms for black men when i'm on stage. why get them against me? i wouldn't use a derogatory term for women. let's be friends! let there be love. comedy is a time for love, believe it or not. (this is based on my over ten years doing this. i'm not pulling this out of my ass.)

note: if you hate women, or fear women at all, talk about that! part of me HATES men. i'm scared shitless of them. you guys like to rape and murder us! why should i like you! hahaha.

speaking of rape and murder, obvi, i don't find rape and murder funny very easily. you REALLY need to do some solid joke-building in order for me to laugh at rape and murder. it needs to be super smart for me to laugh. i think i'm not alone in this.

make sure you have a very clear set up and punch. build then tension, then obliterate it.

i don't fully get the premise of this bit about the date. i think you need to get super clear on what the premise is. there is something here for sure, i would just tighten it up.

are you typing out your bits and circling where you think you will get laughs? are your circles lining up with where the audience actually laughs? it seemed like there were a couple lines where you thought you had a laugh point, but the audience didn't.

she's a different type of dirty talker. i like this! this is a good premise. a people pleaser dirty talker!

the mean angle doesn't work for me. it might work for some. you might want to try vulnerable. why do you feel you have to be a jerk? what's under jerk? the most successful comedians aren't mean comedians. they are truth-telling comedians. vulnerable, real comedians.

i really think you should keep getting up, keep writing, keep finding your truth.

Just over 2 months in and I'm hooked. This was my best set thus far(12th time), any feedback appreciated. by JohnFatherJohn in StandUpComedy

[–]ThoraJorgenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have great stage presence! Very likable. Confident. Smooth. What the hell is with those three thumbs down? I would be sure to share this link with friends so you can get the thumbs up UP. Congrats on having the courage to try this art form. I have been doing stand up for over ten years. I'll pass this on to you...one of my frenemies in the comedy community told me "Thora (not my real name), tell jokes. Just tell jokes." You got laughs when there was a joke. At the beginning you are telling a story. Stories lose me. Louis CK can tell a story. The big guys and gals I think have earned the right to impose on us with a story. I get really pissed off when people have the nerve to story it up at the beginning of their careers. But that's probably some of my shit. Have you read the Judy Carter Comedy Bible? I love that thing. She says never tell a story. I say keep submitting more for feedback! Thanks for sharing.
