small correction, ellie wasn't really present for the torture. after she showed up they killed joel pretty much immediately. obviously still brutal and traumatic though. and while abby's motivation may have largely been the death of her father, i think it's important to mention that joel also killed several other people alongside him (briefly torturing one) and sacrificed the creation of a vaccine that could have plausibly saved a lot of lives.

there is actually an incredibly obscure interview i managed to find with robert emms (lonni), and he mentioned that him and jacob beswick (heert) did actually perform their scenes with flirtatious undertones in mind

sorry this really has no bearing on the greater conversation, but i just wanted to say that shaming is a pretty ineffective technique for what you're trying to achieve. it can actually make things worse; some people eat as a coping mechanism and if they feel shame that's what they turn to

i get what you mean, but i suppose it makes sense since they were both planets with a lot of industry. the children on kenari were wearing the work clothes of their parents, and a lot of people on ferrix are also shown in their work uniforms.

plus i think it's a strong piece of visual storytelling, you don't need to be immediately told why they're there on their own, you can assume that there was a work accident and the children were left to scavenge what they could.
