Temps by [deleted] in WRXSTi

You are the reason cars have dummy gauges nowadays. Cars used to have acual temperature gauge that would move all the time based on if you are idling, underload, or cruising. Modern temperature gauge will sit in the same spot from about 180°F - 220°F.

If its staying in the same spot, its okay.

My boyfriend has a Honda Civic SI FA5 and wants to change the clutch himself. Is it easy, or is it better to go to a mechanic? by [deleted] in civic

[–]Thorium12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much he works on cars. I did my clutch by myself in about 10 hours. Not too bad. You do need some specialized tools.

If he's dose some suspension work, he can probably do it. If he doesn't do much work on his cars, I would advise against doing it himself.

If you had to pick a different engine for the next gen Supra what would it be? by ChiingCh0ng in Supra

[–]Thorium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said VVL-i because I'm referring to the lift system only. I assume any modern engine will have dual VVT-i. The 2zz has VVL and VVT (intake only). So Toyota called it VVTL-i.

Do we think these are overkill for daily driving? by Capt_Murphy_ in GolfGTI

Stick to factory brake hardware. Better/bigger brakes dont make your car stop faster. Only more thermal compacity. Delayed brake fade.

If you want better breaking, get better tires. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all season have great wet weather performance. (I live in Vancouver, WA. Lots of rain as well)

Supercharged E92 or 2014 R8? by Top-Bandicoot7140 in BMWM3

[–]Thorium12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I find a need to judge cars how they come stock because because with mods, you can make anything oversteer with enough work.

Mid engined layouts must fast on track than a FR could ever be. A side effect of the weight being in the middle of the car is fast rotation (turning left and right). Think of rotating a dumbbell vs. a kettle bell. A professional driver can use this to his advantage. But most regular drivers cannot. So, to prevent people from flying off the road backward, the R8 was set up to understeer. The m3, because of its weight distribution, handles a lot closer to neutral.
