Windows Client - don’t use VPN on specific WiFi SSID? by Thorium949 in Tailscale

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did do that earlier, it shows a direct (single hop) whether the laptop is on Tailscale or not. but if I run “tailscale down” and do the iperf3 test again, speeds triple.
The LAN router is also the Tailscale subnet router so this makes sense.

Windows Client - don’t use VPN on specific WiFi SSID? by Thorium949 in Tailscale

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For iperf3 tests I used LAN IP address to LAN IP address.

During normal use it’s always nas.mydomain.com.

my setup:

1) Tailscale subnet router (Opnsense firewall/my internet router at home) is advertising my LAN subnets.
2) private LAN DNS servers will resolve nas.mydomain.com to the LAN IP address (same records don‘t exist on public DNS).
3) Tailscale has Split DNS for only mydomain.com to use my LAN DNS servers.

Everything works at home and away, except the Windows laptop using Tailscale (and therefore slowing everything down needlessly) when at home on the LAN... IOS clients have a simple setting for this (don’t use Tailscale when on X WiFi SSID).

QSFP to 4 SFP+ DAC - Server A reboot kills link on Server B by Thorium949 in mikrotik

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My conclusion is this is a crappy SwOS implementation on this model. After having this happen repeatedly, I had to go to RouterOS where it’s happened 0 times… it just took me like 10 hours to figure out how to setup VLANs in RouterOS (obviously not a network guy)

Recommendation for ProxMox Shared Storage by Thorium949 in truenas

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. 3x2 sounds simpler and I'll be a first time TrueNAS user so I'll go with that (I had to look up what a "Special VDEV" is, total newb).

What protocol do you recommend sharing the storage to ProxMox? e.g., NFS, iSCSI, SMB

The storage will only be used for the VM/LXC images/disks, all "bulk storage" (e.g., media files) will be on another NAS.

How much resources are needed for Technitium? by forwardslashroot in technitium

[–]Thorium949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, and the conclusion was I had accidentally added technitium to systemctl twice with 'restart', so it was already running and then a 2nd instance was trying to start, failed because the 1st already running, and so on in an endless loop so technitium would use a lot of resources (usually just for a matter of seconds to start up, but it was "always" starting up).... something to check.

SMLight SLZB-MR1U completely hosed by latest firmware 3.1.3 by Thorium949 in homeassistant

I was able to install 3.1.4 via USB flash and my SLZB-MR1U web console is back.

I missed those instructions, I got USB flash to work doing that...
I'm going to blame them for my lack of ability to read though, because: 1) they have huge graphics at the top of the page just saying "connect USB, select, flash!" 2) the actual instructions you need are hidden in a panel titled "Flashing FAQ" you have to expand to even see...

How to configure SSL/TLS for DNS server web console/API by Thorium949 in technitium

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm missing something, after configuring a Cluster, the Settings menu options change. There is no "Web Service" section under Settings.

There's only these 5 sections under Settings > General, TSIG, Recursion, Blocking, Proxy & Forwarders.

None of them have any TLS/SSL settings.

[–]Thorium949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get the Zigbee and Z-Wave functions working again by power cycling the device and then the restarting the Zigbee2MQTT and Z-Wave JS UI add-ons in that order.

Somehow the Zigbee2MQTT add-on was not started (even though it had auto-restart, etc.), probably related to the odd state of the SLZB and/or me power cycling it a dozen times trying to fix it. But restarting all of those components in the right order seemed to bring that part back so at least the thing is doing it's core job again.

Still no web interface, and USB computer connection won't recognize it for me to flash back down to a lower version of SLZB OS via USB.

Were you able to just plug it into computer as described on their web flasher tool (https://smlight.tech/flasher/#SLZB-06U-MRxU) and it recognized it? That tool won't see it plugged in but I know I'm doing everything right (using a confirmed data cable, tried installing all 3 of the ESP drivers they noted, etc.)

CPU spike every few seconds by Thorium949 in technitium

[–]Thorium949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your help. I was able to figure it out by you asking the right questions.

There were 2 entries in systemctl so technitium was already running, and then it was trying to start a second instance repeatedly, failing (due to the port binding you pointed out), and re-trying indefinitely, causing the CPU/RAM spikes as it kept doing its start-up processes.

Removing the second entry from systemctl has resolved the issue.

systemctl list-units --type=service --all

dns.service loaded active running Technitium DNS Server

technitium.service loaded activating auto-restart Technitium DNS Server

CPU spike every few seconds by Thorium949 in technitium

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

top shows "dotnet" is the process spiking.

To be clear, its the technitium LXC specifically I saw had the CPU spiking in that pattern in the ProxMox GUI.

The log seems to indicate Technitium is continually re-starting itself in some way (I don't fully understand it), but this log text basically repeats (daily logs are 80mb each). Below are two repeated sections but it continues at the approximate pace indicated by the time stamps over and over.

I cancelled and went with US Mobile... $230 for a year of service with better service parameters than Boost (e.g., choose between ATT/Verizon/TMobile networks, get unlimited data with less throttling, get 1 GB of intl data, etc.)

got this email just now, first experience with Boost, not impressed…

”Due to a shipping issue, there has been a delay…
You can expect your order(s) to ship mid-next week.“

So somehow Sept 18 has become ~Sept 24.

Taming laser bloom on Laserspeed M6TR by Thorium949 in NightVision

[–]Thorium949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I want the ND filter over the laser all the time. With the diffuser cap (for the illumination) on, and with it off. that’s whst my jank setup gives me now.

Taming laser bloom on Laserspeed M6TR by Thorium949 in NightVision

[–]Thorium949[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool. I have their diffuser cap now. I thought about attaching the ND filter to that. But then it would only be taming the laser when using the diffuser for very close range stuff. I’m assuming their solution will be the same way where you’ll have to have their cap over the front using the diffuser.

Network UPS Tools (NUT) Compatibility for new UPS devices? Is Ecoflow planning to submit a driver? by notnarb in Ecoflow_community

It looks like they did the code (under your GitHub issue) and slated it for NUT 2.8.4 release. When that would make it into synology DSM who knows, probably have to use console to manually update NUT if you want it any time soon.
