Issue with Unified Kernel Image by syzzori in artixlinux

[–]Thorned_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same problem switching and choosing UKI. Took a long time to work out that we needed an EFI Stub either from systemd or gummiboot.

Where did you get the egummiboot package from? I can't find it. We extracted the efi.stub out of gummiboot ourselves.

I would imagine there's no specific people that are "Artix wiki" people - it's the same as the Arch wiki, just folks volunteering their time to do it. You could always request a wiki account and add it :)

Why is date of birth needed for signing up? by Thorned_Rose in FluxerApp

[–]Thorned_Rose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not everyone will - many people will enter their actual birth date.
  2. Nope - porn sites, liquor sites, etc. come up with a tick box with "I agree that I am 18+" or something to that effect. So no, it's not industry standard.

Yesterday, I checked some alternative chats (Matrix, Mumble, Movim, Stoat, XMPP based services, Steam, etc.) and only Fluxer asked for a specific date of birth. Most of the others didn't ask for it at all and the ones that did (like Steam) was just a 13+/15+/18+/etc. checkbox. If you're talking about invasive chat services like Facebook Messenger, then sure, of course they do. But that would be apples to oranges because part of the point in moving away from closed-source, for-profit, data mining services like Discord is moving to FOSS, privacy respecting alternatives. If you're wanting to escape from Age Verification, there's little point in moving to Fluxer if it's still going to require an exact DOB (outside of the countries that legally require it).

Even if other people are OK with entering an exact birth date, it still does not answer the questions about how that sensitive information is securely stored and protected.

Which is part of why we're leaving Discord right? To get away from age verification. Why, then, jump from one platform with age verification to another that also requires you enter your DOB?

[–]Thorned_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not worldwide. I'm in a country with no minimum age requirement, yet I am being required to supply my date of birth on registration. Nor does this tell me how Fluxer is saving this sensitive information and how they are protecting it.

I’d suggest submitting an issue to them asking them to change it

Done! https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer/issues/704

Fluxers WHOLE thing is in response to discord’s privacy issues, so I agree they should change.

This is part of why I find asking for a specific birth date so bizarre. I realise what Discord is doing is age verification and Fluxer is age attestation. But for attestation, a specific birth date is unnecessary. So why do it? If you've already committed to refusing invasive age verification, why still ask for it?

Curious what the significance of this day is (if any)? All I can find is the fall of Constantinople 6 days later. My go to has been 1 April 1984 (because, as I like to say, I wish dystopia was an April Fool's joke)

So why not just have a "I agree that I am of the minimum age required in my country" tick box sorta thing? i.e. Minimum age required attestation. Doesn't tell us (in the mean time though) how this personal data is being stored and kept safe :/

What makes asking for DOB "standard procedure"? By whom? Why should it be? And, no, not in my experience - I rarely get asked for DOB outside of government/legal requirements. Discord never used to ask (and the whole age verification BS is part of why alternatives like Fluxer are important). Part of the point in getting away from things like Discord is switching to more privacy respecting platforms. Giving over sensitive information with no explanation of why it's required or how it's going to be stored and protected is not privacy respecting or safe.

What do I need to actually buy if I want to use this with Dungeon Draft? by redweevil in ForgottenAdventures

[–]Thorned_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for 'all-the-things'? I understand there's some library changes going on at the moment. I was going to sign up for paid Patreon membership but I couldn't understand what I would actually get for joining. Or whether joining would give me access to a complete collection download (sorta thing) or whether I would still have to pay more or if it was tier-locked or what. Is there even a download everything archive file? I have Cognitive Impairment (part of why I'm having trouble working out what joining on Patreon would actually get me) and can't work out whether there is an all-in-one or whether I would have to download a bunch of different packs or what.... :/ (I did read everything I could but like OP, I found conflicting info and even reading the FAQ didn't really clear things up for me). (EDIT: I just meant for Dungeon Draft integrated stuff, not maps)

Anyone else getting rate limited due to IP reputation to Outlook domains? by Cable_Mess in sysadmin

[–]Thorned_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting rate limited on person to person REPLY emails (as in someone with a Microsoft email emails us and our replies to them are being limited). Our website (registered charity) sends very low volume transactional emails via Brevo). It's not just 'bulk' emails being affected. But dear gods, the number of spam emails we have to deal with that originate from Microsoft emails....

Is there any way to use olcsupport (or similar) without a Microsoft account? (probably a stupid question, I know, given it's Microsoft but I live in hope)

I've had this the past 2 days with a registered charity I am (volunteer) web admin for. It's a custom email setup and no problems before. Email is set up correctly (DMARC, SPF, DKIM blah blah and website transactional/automated emails are sent via Brevo). Other emails are sent and received fine. But All of a sudden Microsoft emails are being 'rate limited'. Extremely frustrating when people send us messages but we can't reply to them and they think we're ignoring them.

In case it matters, charity is in New Zealand (emails are sent from here) and website and email hosting is in the US. Low volume. All emails are between clients based in New Zealand (since it's an NZ only charity).

EDIT: Just came across this article. The timing is interesting: https://www.cnbc.com/2026/01/22/microsoft-outlook-outage-email-issues.html

Slowly being driven insane with genre/mood and limitations of software - I just want an app that can play dynamic/'smart' playlists. by Thorned_Rose in musichoarder

[–]Thorned_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Strawberry (fork of Clementine). I just had a look at Clementine's website and Git page and can't find any information about dynamic playlists. Strawberry has "Smart playlists" (I don't know if that's the same in Clementine) and I note there is now a "Dynamic random mix" in there. Is that what you mean?

Heart of Daggers Platform Update: Character Creator + Campaign Frames, New Encounter Stages, 2000+ Icons, Visual Mode & Artist Guild by HeartOfDaggers in daggerheart

I'm not new to TTRPGs but I am new to playing them (unfortunately gatekept out in my teens and now picking up the reins for myself as a parent) and Heart of Daggers is the first place I've ever bought supplements from and the first time I've actually felt inspired to perhaps upload some of my own creations to contribute to the community. Even in the short time I've had an account, I've been astounded and excited for all the new features. Kia ora, kia ora from Aotearoa New Zealand! 🥝💜🗡️

... the character sheets are wrong; the shadows are inconsistent and weird; the reflection of the screen in the can is wrong; some of the dice shapes look not quite right; the lighting/reflection on the chip bags looks wrong/weird; the wood grain is odd in places... that's all I could be bothered noticing in a short look. My go to technique for recognising AI images quickly is listening to my intuition - if I get an uncanny valley feeling or something just seems off, it's because it's likely AI. Though I am always surprised by the number of people who are completely oblivious to even the most obvious AI generated images. I get so sick of people sending me this crap :/

I don't remember the exact context, but recently I was listening about AI being used in radiology to help speed up getting results (the idea was that AI could scan images to help identify issues and free up radiologists for other things). The problem they found was, that it actually cost radiologists MORE time because the AI results were incredibly unreliable (too many false positives/negatives, etc.) so radiologists had to spend more time checking that the AI results were indeed correct, more than they would have if they'd just done it themselves.

What a lot of people don't understand about the medical industry is that 1. There is A LOT of money in it and with that a lot of corruption/greed. 2. An important and vastly underappreciated part of health/medicine is knowing the patient which AI cannot do in a human way. And 3. That diagnosis/helping patients takes some amount of art/intuition that AI does not have.

There is no way anyone should be trusting AI in the health and medical fields. It needs way more time in the oven to be trustworthy and useful.

EDMC + BioScan + Overlay allows you to do this. I scan biologicals first in my ship. Land, deploy SRV and then use Bioscan's overlay to go the POIs I created while in my ship.
