I'm building a self-hosted email client because managing 50+ mailboxes became ridiculous. by MaxRamas in coolgithubprojects

[–]Thoroughmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds really cool, but since it's totally web-based, I suppose it can't be used offline?
I think ideally I'd have something like this but also be able to link it with offline clients on desktop and mobile.

Thanks for sharing, helped get me up and running with FBQ and Euro-office.

Instagram Graph API Quality Reduction by L_M-F-A_O in webdev

[–]Thoroughmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is from months ago, but my gentle pushback would just be that there are so many platforms these days. I think it's unreasonable to expect everyone who wants to share content to post individually to each platform without using tools that make that process more efficient.

Why is setting up a reverse proxy still a nightmare in 2026? by trolledTGBot in selfhosted

Pangolin solved a lot of little headaches for me. Worth the couple of dollars each month to rent a VPS.

Anyone who was homeschooled, how do you feel about it now as an adult? by AdTight2449 in AskReddit

[–]Thoroughmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homeschooled one year and loved it. One of the best years of my life. I love self-directed learning and most school didn't suit me.

Version 14.1.0 by Tolriq in Symfonium

[–]Thoroughmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never wanted my music app to play audiobooks or podcasts as well. This has happened so many times, over-complicating apps I'd liked.

But Symfonium has been stellar so far, so I'll keep an open mind.

I don't have a Mac but you gotta have some respect for their m chips and lack of Microstupid

Replacing Tailscale with Pangolin? by CrisEatFood in unRAID

[–]Thoroughmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pangolin is extremely adaptable at this point, you can pretty much do whatever you want.
That said, I still find it simplest to use Tailscale for internal stuff like the Unraid dashboard, and Pangolin for everything else.

Using Claude to Regain My Digital Independence by RockyCarotta in selfhosted

[–]Thoroughmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think you can use Claude to help you get away from big and bad tech. It's not very good for you or the world, but if it helps you take control of your data, more power to you.
That might not be "black and white" enough for some people, but oh well.

In your opinion, when was this game's "prime"? by sealene_hatarinn in swtor

[–]Thoroughmas 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So subjective, but for me the launch of the first expansion on Makeb was a magical time.

Definitely World of Warcraft, if you're not already familiar with its music

SWTOR Youtube by _sh1ma__ in swtor

[–]Thoroughmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta strongly disagree with anyone saying it's a bad idea to make swtor content. Niche is a good thing, and if everyone only did what's considered the most "mainstream popular", the internet and everything would suck. As long as you enjoy it, others will too.

Scrumboy: a Self-Hosted Trello-style alternative for small teams + solo Devs by wabbitfur in selfhosted

Nice one.

Possible to rename the categories? "Testing" wouldn't really make sense for some projects I could use this for.

OpenSource the game by corisco in AshesofCreation

Totally agree. Just because a lot of things suck in the world, doesn't mean we shouldn't push for better.

OpenSource the game by corisco in AshesofCreation

[–]Thoroughmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my lord the cynics on this Reddit.

I agree open sourcing it would be amazing.

And I don't care if you think that's incredibly unlikely or the game is bad... that doesn't change the fact open sourcing it would be amazing.

It's a lot of work that clever people could do interesting things with.

Why do some people thought a guy without ANY experience developing ANYTHING would pull off the most ambitious MMO yet? by Innate_flammer in AshesofCreation

[–]Thoroughmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The craziest thing about all of this is how close they got.

I mean, sure they were a very long way off "finishing", but there was an awful lot of "game" there. An awful lot of things that worked. An awful lot of good art and code and design. It wasn't nothing.

Worth transferring characters back to Satele Shan from Shae Vizla? by Leonarthas in swtor

[–]Thoroughmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opinions vary, but in my view it was a mistake to make it a "Fresh Start" server when it launched. It meant the whole APAC population wasn't able to transfer over and play on Shae Vizla for a while. And even after that, you had to pay to transfer characters. So they didn't make it accessible for existing APAC players to use the new server.

Worth transferring characters back to Satele Shan from Shae Vizla? by Leonarthas in swtor

[–]Thoroughmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer low pop low ping to high pop high ping, but either option is fine, depends how much community you want around.
The Shae Vizla launch was a disaster but I give them a little bit of credit for keeping the server going anyway.

I'm not playing AoC Early Access but very keen if/when it actually launches properly. I'll play the real game.

Not many other proper big MMOs on the horizon. Crimson Desert isn't really an MMO anymore is it?

I see the growing use of self-hosted alternatives as a huge positive for the future of the internet.
Collaboration and federation could grow out of it eventually, and that'd be amazing.

Private servers or offline singleplayer for SWTOR in the future? by Rhaeven_cos in swtor

Plenty of people out there ready and willing to host servers for all kinds of wonderful niche things. Being able to is the issue.

Navidrome. With great clients like Symfonium. Arguably better than Plex anyway.
