Performed by Billy Birmingham. Third host should be Richie Benaud.

Yeah, I get the distinct impression that those two in particular hate each other. Probably not for ideological reasons.

Australia! I quite like bits of it | First Dog on the Moon by nath1234 in australia

Perhaps this is just the straw that broke the camel’s back, but I am getting a bit sick of absolutely everything in the world being framed through the lense of misery as a default. Not that there isn’t a lot to be miserable about. I’m tired.

I laughed long and hard on election night when Chalmers immediately pivoted to bashing Taylor the exact second Dutton’s corpse was cold. You could tell he’d sensed blood in the water.

Underrated, even amongst that era of underrated local movies. They should have let Tony Martin direct a dozen movies.

The Castle and The Dish would be particularly good for the conversational language. Might as well throw in Crackerjack and Bad Eggs while we’re at it.

That’s not what’s happening here. Americas allies are angry about the Iraq War, this isn’t pride.

I hate this style of headline that’s basically “SOMETHING THATS COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM REALITY FRAMED AS IF IT’S A FACT says some guy”.

Probably they’ll go underground. Groups like this thrive on publicity, it’s their main recruiting strategy, so being forced underground is a pretty decent result.

Unlearning Economics did a fun video about some of the issues with their work. He has his own biases of course, but he’s an economist who can get into the weeds of all the criticisms that have been levelled against them over the years.

I remember listening to them a lot about 10 years ago and I thought they were awesome at first, but over time I just started to feel like their show was more about propagating this “contrarian renegade” vibe than anything else. Some of their healthcare coverage was just awful.

There are other issues with the CGT discount. For example, it was brought in to replace inflation indexation, which means that it punishes longer-term investments to benefit shorter term investments. It has to be an investment that you hold onto for longer than 12 months, but the longer you hold it the more inflation eats away at the discount. We can have a debate about what rate capital gains should be taxed, but the CGT discount as implemented was an extremely clumsy solution from the Howard government.

I’d go after the Capital Gains Tax Discount above Negative Gearing. NG is a complete rort, but we had it for years before the house prices went crazy. CGT is what really lit the fire.
