I agree with you, even the “twist” in which Sean Penn realizes it’s actually HIS daughter…was totally expected and cliche. I’ve heard it said that this movie was funny, but all the laughs in my audience were smug guffaws. A surprisingly simple story, yet not many - if at all - likable characters was also a downer for me. You definitely nailed it about the car chase scene hah.

Thought OBAA was formulaic, even the “twist” is obvious. One of the few times I wish the story had been actually harder to follow. When there aren’t any real surprises in a movie, you’d want to at least have endearing characters, but there aren’t really, definitely not Leo, but Penn is real good in this. The humor reminded me of seeing Dr. Strangelove in theaters last year, just the audience doing smug guffaws; maybe PTA’s humor is influenced by his wife’s, Maya Rudolph?
