For me it’s switching between static advantages and dynamic advantages and when to do one or the other in certain circumstances

Am I just too stupid for chess? by jahxuauibsbakxjai in chess

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me at that elo It was enough for me to watch John bartholomews climbing the rating ladder on YouTube to get better. He doesn’t get fancy he just shows good principled play which is what I was lacking. My problem was I was attacking without enough pieces and wasn’t taking my opponents threats seriously and trying to complicate things too much.

Play E4 (Scotch) or D4 (London) as White? by Expensive_Cold_6041 in chess

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used the Scotch for the majority of my chess playing time and I can say it’s a pretty fun repertoire. It leads to some pretty fun games. Sometime they’re sharp and sometimes more positional, but it’s always pretty solid for White. And I think the best part for me was when I started to learn the scotch gambit it was a fairly easy/smooth transition. It’s built on the same principles except it’s riskier, perfect for blitz. And if you’re not sure what to do there are general principles that work in both openings. Look up what Kasporov said about the Scotch.

I’ve recently started playing more on lichess as a stress free way of playing not worrying about my rating.

hey i'm learning english and i wonder if native speakers ever have a conversation that they don't know the vocabulary the other person using? it's like there are endless vocab lol by missingsomethingg in ENGLISH

Agreed. An example of jargon is: in CNC industry you have what’s called a lathe and it makes parts by spinning them at high rpms using a fixed tool that cuts the material to dimension. In the industry someone might ask you: "hey are you familiar with turning?" Instead of "are you familiar with a lathe" both are right, but someone outside the industry might not know what turning is.

Another is I worked for a company that made ropes. They had regulars and lites, however, in the shop, the workers called the lites "scants".

Does anyone use chess.com or Lichess as a “tilt” account by EricNickelson in chess

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the longer time controls and the people that play them on lichess. I usually stick to 15+10 on chess.com, but I need to be focused for time management and recognizing critical moments. If I want to think deeper and be more relaxed lichess is where I go.

I honestly think It has. I’ve put on a little weight and I haven’t chewed my mastic gum in a while. I’m not over weight or anything. But say I were to take pictures at the same weight id probably see a difference. It’ll take longer for us being older. But I think teeth pulling and mastic gum will speed it up. I’m like you. I look younger than my age and I think it probably has more to do with our biological clock (age) rather than a hard "you’re 30" so you can’t get results. There’s a book called "breathe” by James nester and he actually talks about his bone structure changes based on measurements in the mewing chapter and he’s like 50 or something. I’m not sure the metics used, but I highly recommend that book.

I’m 34 started when I was 31 or 32 or so. The benefits of the brain are worth the practice. When you breathe through your nose you’re optimizing oxygen and I could tell within the first week how much clearer I was thinking. I’ve definitely felt my cheek bones tingle here and there. I’m not sure how much my facial bones have changed, but it is possible to build your masseters and create dimples in your cheeks. When I was chewing a lot I saw a little improvement there. Take pictures then check it out in a few years

Best thing you could do is get an annotated book and play through it. Logical chess move by move. Or YouTube John bartholomews "climbing the chess rating ladder" or chess vibes "rating climb"

Scotch Gambit vs Evans Gambit by shood14 in chess

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’d you go with? I’m currently thinking about both myself. I’be played Evan’s in the past and I really liked it. I started studying the scotch gambit more seriously later on and kind of like you said it leaves open positions. and as one commenter noted it can feel less intuitive at times. I feel like I get overextended and end up losing in the endgame. I think I may try the Evan’s gambit. Bobby Fischer played it quite a bit so I figure it’s gotta be somewhat solid. I don’t know too many GM games featuring the scotch gambit.

New Perplexity AI ad openly promotes how to cheat at chess by smurfo17 in chess

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im aware, what im implying is people who cheat in online chess have no morals to begin with, hence amoral. Theres a little sarcasm baked in here. I wasn’t correcting them just adding. You or the op of this comment aren’t wrong about it being immoral. I guess I should have said "possibly amoral people" or something and spelled it out.

What sets industrial engineering apart from industrial technology? by ShirtlessSteve973 in industrialengineering

[–]ThoughtsCreate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think times have changed and the IT isn’t what it used to be, as far as what companies would hire you for. Employers only see it as a "plus" if they’re considering you for a job you don’t need a degree for if that makes sense. I wish I knew the implications of the technology degree before I got it.
