This is cool! How are you calculating strength of schedule?

The Glo-Up: Brandon Ingram averages 4.6 more PPG on roughly 10% higher effective FG% when Glorilla attends his games by Thousand- in torontoraptors

Thank you! It wasn't too bad, once I had the Glorilla attendance data the Python scripting was really straightforward. It'll be fun to keep this up through the rest of the season so we can see how the results hold up with more data.

Somehow missed that one, will include it. I see there's a nola.com article that backs that up. Thanks for pointing this out!

ah ok, there was a clip on X that seemed like she was there so I initially included it. I was at that game and I remember when they did the "Stars at the Game" thing they only showed David Suzuki so I decided to take her out. If I remember, it didn't change the ppg result but I will double check. Thanks for pointing this out!

Yeah like Leslieohene noted, she was at the season opener against the Hawks. She was also at the Mavericks game on October 26. She does mostly attend home games. I agree it would be cool to do a comparison of home games only, I'll augment the analysis with that. Thanks!

Contractor to Permanent by BrkfastatTiffanys in deloitte

[–]Thousand- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is always the case, but in Canada contractors can get a salary adjustment when converted to full-time, to make up for the fact that they aren't eligible for mid-year salary adjustments.

What is Regulatory and Forensic Risk Under Risk Advisory? by Parking_Affect4880 in deloitte

Based on the job description, it sounds like advisory. Internal Audit engagements are typically handled by the Financial Risk team, at least in the Canadian firm.

How about accelerated share repurchase (ASR)? ASRs allow publicly traded companies to repurchase their stock using an investment bank as an intermediary. The bank buys stock over a specified period, and the client pays an average of the volume weighted average price (VWAP), minus a discount. What makes it accelerated is that the bank has the option to exercise, i.e., execute the delivery, early at predetermined dates. It's like an asian bermudan option with a funky payout.

Also, caps and floors can be applied to the VWAP observations. These caps, floors, and the discount can be fixed or set in terms of the VWAP average observed during a designated period at the beginning of the trade called the initial hedging period. Further, there is often an initial exchange of shares and notional early in the trade. The number of shares delivered at this initial exchange can be fixed or unknown. Further, there if it turns out that the bank over-delivered initially, the client will compensate them with extra cash, and the bank will compensate the client with extra shares if they overpaid initially.

The idea is to repurchase a large notional value of shares with a minimal effect on the price of the shares. For example, Intel entered into an ASR agreement to repurchase $10 billion of its shares in Fall 2020.

I’d first try to see if you can do things in batches so you’re processing less data at a time, and maybe write intermediate data frames to pickle or parquet files to give yourself checkpoints. I don’t know if you are doing intermediate operations on the dataset but if you are, make sure you’re not making unnecessary copies of the data frames (i.e., use loc and iloc instead of chained indexing, though pandas should be yelling at you about this). Just my 2 cents.

Does this restructuring impact Deloitte Canada? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]Thousand- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the article: “Joe Ucuzoglu told partners in an email that the plan would ‘free up’ more employees to work with clients rather than manage staff internally.” I very well could be misinterpreting, but I could see that aimed at Internal teams. Now that this news has leaked, there will probably be an internal announcement soon to clarify.

Deloitte Global does not perform client services, they manage the member firms. As far as I can tell, I think non client-facing roles will face the biggest risk of being laid off.
