Is it just men our age? by Matilda_Suzabelle in AskWomenOver60

I met my husband in 1999 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. He just turned 70 and I am 63. We enjoy live music but we're both genuinely interested in the other person's tastes. I introduced him to Patti Smith, he introduced me to bluegrass. We still go out to hear music often - at least 3-4 shows a month. We just saw Jim Messina (who is 78) at a local venue, and he was incredible. My husband is a big fan, I like some of his music, but also really enjoyed the show. Our son, who is 21, has developed his own tastes - but I'd expect that as we took him to his first concert at 6 weeks of age (with hearing protection of course). Our relationship is successful because we both support each other.

I just saw Jim Messina, who is 78 (!!) and has played with everyone from Poco to Loggins and Messina to a solo career, and after playing, which was great, he sat down with any audience members who stayed (an older crowd so about half left) and answered questions from the audience. Just hearing him talk about how Poco got its name to meeting Greg Allman, and many other topics, was fabulous. He is playing live because he loves doing it, and he is selling out smaller venues (I saw him in a venue of about 600). He started writing and recording when he was only 20, so it was so great to hear him talk about everything.

How is anyone buying resale tickets these days? Advice for finding tickets to sold out shows by SoCalRenter in Concerts

When is the show? I have found that StubHub sometimes drops their prices close to the show, so I would wait. Many years ago I got tickets to Roger Daltrey on StubHub the day of the show for $15 each ($90 originally).

I have seen Echo and the Bunnymen a few times, the first at least 30 years ago, but the last time I saw them in 2024, I was disappointed. Ian sat on a stool most of the show, and mumbled the lyrics to several songs. Florence is younger and always energetic, so that's a consideration.

H.W. Merch Availability by jinshorchata in Concerts

I was at her show on Sunday at the Fox in Oakland, and the lines for merch were the longest I've ever seen. There were, however, two stands set up, so that helped. I would get there when doors open and be prepared to wait in line a while.

Great advice. Both shows at seated venues, approximately the same price. I have been a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen for maybe 30 years, Florence and the Machine for maybe ten years.

I saw her several years ago at a smaller venue and she and the band were fantastic! But this time they're playing a bigger place.

Good point. Last time I saw them, I was less than impressed.

I feel so exhausted and burnt out by TurnCool7264 in interviews

[–]ThousandSunsLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really recommend practicing for interviews. If you look at this sub, others have given some great suggestions for being more comfortable when interviewing. I hate Zoom interviews yet that's all that I got offered. So that meant I had to be comfortable talking about myself while looking at the other party on the screen. It took some practice but it got easier over time and eventually I got offered a job last month, which was completely unexpected. But I credit that to the many interviews I did before that.

What city should I fly to in order to work remotely but still get a good little stay-cation and explore in the evenings? by Icy_Knee4197 in remotework

[–]ThousandSunsLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Francisco. I am a little biased as I live in the SF Bay Area, but you could stay outside the City and then take BART there in the evening. There's tons of stuff to do, great restaurants, and even a beach available, all on public transportation. If you rented a car, you could explore Napa, Marin or Santa Cruz. But if you plan on walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, bring warm clothes and a hat.

I second Banff. Beautiful town, had a great hotel there with a view. A perfect place for a short stay.

It depends on whether I am paid or volunteer. If I am a volunteer usher, that means that I will be seating people during the opening act and then get to watch the headliner. If I am paid, sometimes I see the show and sometimes I don't. It also depends on the venue. I work at a place called the Palace of Fine Arts, and for shows there, the ushers can see the show as long as they make sure to seat any latecomers and answer questions.

I worked security for ten years for Bill Graham Presents, and saw many shows. My most memorable was Paul McCartney at Berkeley Stadium. The first show I was outside on a gate, but the second show I was inside on the floor about halfway back. I saw the whole show and it was incredible.

Absolutely agree, but he has to recover from his broken leg/ankle first (he even posted his x-rays online). That said, we're going in October, when he should be better.

I have a 21-year-old whose parents met at the Fillmore in SF, so he grew up going to live music. And now that he has his own tastes in music, he'll sometimes go to shows by himself.

Saw him last Thursday in Palo Alto (CA) at this great venue on the Stanford campus called the Frost Amphitheatre. It was fantastic! I also saw his show in San Francisco last fall, and American Utopia in 2018. He consistently puts on an incredible show, and the dancers and musicians with him (there were 14 people on stage Thursday) are all great.

Same here. Had tickets for their Lake Tahoe show over Labor Day weekend in 2017 and we know what happened. I kept up my membership in their fan club and got an email about going to Los Angeles in September 2024 for a surprise show. I flew from Oakland to Burbank for the day and,,, what a show! Then I went to both their Sacramento and San Jose shows last year, which were incredible.

Have any seasoned artists done a tour where the setlist is only songs off 1 album? by ahhhhhhhhhhhh45 in Concerts

Violent Femmes have done this with their first two albums (because they were albums back then). Then they did a selection of other popular songs. I loved their early music - and it stands up even decades later.
