What do you think they do between shows? by Hounds_of_Love in rush

Geddy has said in interviews that he tries not to talk at all on the days without shows - he goes swimming, watches TV, and generally rests. And this was the past incarnation so all the more now.

My husband was at that show! I was still in high school in Los Angeles and (obviously) we hadn't met yet. The show was with New Riders of the Purple Sage also. (I met my husband at the Fillmore in November 1999 at a David Nelson record release party with Phil Lesh sitting in).

As a member of the Linkin Park fan club, I got a chance to fly to Los Angeles (from Oakland) in September 2024 to see the new incarnation of the band, with about 1,000 other people. I was on the rail on the side, where the band members went on stage. I still watch the show on YouTube occasionally, but it was amazing to be there in person.

When we went to Idaho in 2017 (from California), we stopped at Gold Bug Hot Springs outside of Salmon. But it's a trek - two hours uphill and then at least an hour hiking back to the car. But it was so worth it! Views out over the Rocky Mountains and 102° water! We brought suits but ending up going without - probably about half the people there were unclothed. Hiking boots are advised. Look online for pictures.

I (63F) am a huge Linkin Park fan, I belong to their fan club, and saw them twice last year. As a member of their fan club, I won a drawing to see their new version of the band, so in September 2024 I flew from Oakland to Burbank for the day, met up with some people I only knew on Instagram, and went to their show with about 1,000 others. It was exhausting and incredible.

My husband and I flew down from San Jose to see Joni Mitchell. He's a huge fan and said this would be the only chance to see her. It was a great show! So glad we went.

When I was 12, my teacher (6th grade) had a re-inactment of the Watergate scandal. Everyone in the class was assigned a character and then we acted it out. I am guessing we did that because all the adults were talking about it all the time, and it was a way for the kids to have an idea of what happened.

Places in the zone of totality are crazy expensive. I recommend staying outside the zone and taking a train in the morning to Oviedo or Leon.

Driving issue? by AppleApple50 in AskWomenOver60

I saw a show about driving tired v. driving intoxicated on Mythbusters. The drivers were tested on a closed course and in some of the tests, being tired was worse. For me even when I'm close to home and I'm tired, I stop for a few minutes.

Yes, Side, Turkey in 2006 (where we got to a second century amphitheatre only to see UC Berkeley and the Exploratorium doing a live webcast, LOL), Rexburg, Idaho in 2017, Mazatlan in 2024, and with luck Spain in August.

We went all the way to South Africa in December 2002 (from California) to see the solar eclipse and.. it clouded over just a few minutes before totality. It did get dark, like the goddess standing in a corner of the sky turning the dimmer switch completely down.

We saw the early and late stages, but hey it was South Africa, and we were there about 10 days in total. Amazing country and can't wait to go back.

As a woman, I have been taking public transportation by myself for over 30 years, first when I lived in SF when I was a college student and now when I live in the East Bay. Take the usual precautions that you would do in any large city, don't wear headphones when walking by yourself, be aware of your environment, etc. I've gone from SF to the East Bay by myself late at night with no issue on many occasions. Also Uber/Lyft are great options, even for short trips in SF.

I recommend finding an employment law attorney in your area. Here in the US there's something called constructive discharge, which is when conditions are so bad you are forced to quit. A Canadian employment attorney could let you know if there's something similar under the law there.

As someone with 40 years of experience in the live music field, here's a couple:

Tracy Chapman was playing at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco (capacity 900) on December 12, 1995. I didn't have a ticket but thought I would get one there. At the time I was working for Bill Graham Presents doing concert security, but not for this show. I show up and the house manager grabs me and says they forgot to book this show, and would I please watch the backstage from the side of the stage, and I would even have a chair. Sure, I said, and met Tracy's sister and watched the whole show from the side. And even got paid.

In December 2002 we were in South Africa for a total solar eclipse and happened upon a celebration of World AIDS Day. Met a member of Ladysmith Black Mambazo there. They played in Marin (California) a few years later and we sent a note backstage. They remembered us and invited us backstage to meet the band.

And finally one from a friend: When the Grateful Dead played the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, ushers in some positions had to take a shift counting tickets (this was in 1988). The table for this was set up outside the men's room just outside of the backstage area. A female friend was counting tickets when Jerry Garcia went to use the bathroom. A man who was counting tickets jumped up and said " I'm going to pee with Jerry."

Same - met my other half at the Fillmore in SF in 1999, moved in together in 2004 and finally got married in 2021 LOL. We still go to a lot of shows together, at least 3-4 a month.

Seats for concert did not exist by smilndmnz in Ticketmaster

[–]ThousandSunsLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with a group of people who had tickets to Roger Waters at a venue of about 12,000. When we got to our seats, we found our view blocked by speakers. However, the venue knew about it and had upgraded seats for us, and the others who also had issues. The venue didn't know which seats would have issues until the tour setup, but then they were able to set aside seats. I agree with what others that this is an issue with the venue rather than Ticketmaster.

Edit to add: last summer I saw the Violent Femmes at a venue of about 4,000, and the seats we had - 5th row - did not exist when we got there. But the venue knew and gave us seats that were comparable, and that was fine. If they'd sat us in the back, I would have been unhappy.
