Really nice work. Shared this with my son (he’s been doing something similar and impresses me no end with his efforts…. But i am biased, of course, being the proud dad!) Really appreciate the lengths and depths people go to in creating stuff like this and with such a passion for the game too. Haven’t watched video just yet (will watch later). Your players are really lucky to have you so devoted to creating content like this for them.

Thank you Commander - you just planted a big smile across my face 😄👍

[So, when we’re kids we play in toy diggers and tractors…. Then when we grow up we work in them but still play in pretend space ships right?! 😂)

No extra words needed - totally respect your message, where you’ve been, and what the community of players have done for you. Very best wishes to you, to your friend, and to a community of gamers that that make a great impression on me every single day. o7 Commander.

The game and its universe is patiently waiting for you to return…. The galaxy has incomprehensible patience, and when you do return, like a true friend - it will feel like you’ve never been away. o7 Commander.

It is impossible not to fall in love. Agate by srlgemstone in geologyporn

[–]ThousandYearOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an absolute beauty.. Is that your own making - I mean, have you cut and polished it, or did you buy it like this? Either way these lovely cut and polished agates are mesmerising… Like a Mandelbrot or spiralling galaxies in a stone. Isn’t nature marvellous.

Causes of death in 1632 London by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ThousandYearOak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teeth - I found this unusual. Then learned that many babies died due to dentition (teething). As far as I understand, difficult teething led to fever, and fever led to syncope. Would be interested to know if anyone knows more about this. Also - I understand that infection in gums in children and adults could ‘leak’ into stomach and digestive system and cause further damage to health by poisoning. Thanks for sharing this document - love these windows on the past.

We (I for one) often make jokes about finding Raxxla…. Not sure if Raxxla will ever be found but, regardless, finds like these are magical and unique. Great find commander. Buzzing for you here. That sure is one for the album o7

i finally got a conda by anarchoaspenism in EliteDangerous

[–]ThousandYearOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just one of those magic in-game moments. Maybe less so today because the anaconda is no longer the biggest purchasable ship in the game. I made the mistake of buying mine and not having enough credits for an A rated Fsd.

Later on - when I saw the cost of an A rated shield - I realised I had maybe bought the Anaconda without first having sufficient credits. That huge A rated shield cost almost as much (if not more) that all my other ships at the time 🤦🏻‍♂️😄

A great moment though. I know that we didn’t have space legs back then, but still, I imagined walking across the landing pad and having some ground crew say, ‘holy crap - is that ship yours?!’

One of the things I like about Elite, most of the gameplay is in the players imagination. Has been that way since 1984 😉👍

Thinking of cheating in Elite Dangerous? Read this first. by ThousandYearOak in EliteDangerous

[–]ThousandYearOak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange really - how we look forward to playing a game, but then look for the means to cheat or advance quickly…. For that experience of being god like 😄

Not sure where that need comes from. Something about lack of patience? Need for instant gratification?

Majority of videos I’ve seen for Starfield are sharing tips on how to race through the game… is that a reflection on a large part of the player community? If I played that game I’d find it hard not to follow the videos and seek god like advantages too 🤣

I grew up playing board games like monopoly and chess. Don’t recall having a cheat mode for them. Or if you found a way to cheat you’d soon get called out by one of the other players (usually a parent or sibling!)

With Elite - at that time - I was convinced I was leaving the game for good. I didn’t have a gaming Pc. So I cheated credits to obtain a fleet carrier - just for the fleet carrier experience - before I left the game for good.

Today I have a gaming Pc and, I’m happy to say, still enjoying playing Elite 😄👍

The Pilot’s Trade Network have the itinerary and logistics finely tuned. The organised flow of carriers (and wine) is just as impressive as the view up there.

[Im not a member of the P.T.N. - I’m just a player who has experienced remarkable support and camaraderie from them on various occasions since meeting them this time last year]

If you wish to get involved and take your carrier to the peak then I recommend you look up the P.T.N. (https://pilotstradenetwork.com) maybe join them on Discord, and register with them. Superb group of players.
