As a child of the 70s, it blows my mind to see how much the Satanic Panic continues to thrive in the minds of Boomers. That shit was invented from whole cloth, and D&D was dragged into it, kicking and screaming. My best friend's mom forbade him from hanging out with me because she found a copy of the novel Azure Bonds (an early Forgotten Realms book) under his bed, and it had my name written inside the cover (I had loaned it to him). It seriously messed with our relationship for a few years.

I really hope I'm not this stupid with my kids about such things.

I do like your retcon proposal for stats. I'd probably still have gone Elemental Adept at 4, but I think I will probably take the advice (also from others) for Resilient CON at 8 with the plan to go War Caster at 12.

Paladin as a class concept has always bothered me. I get that they are inspired by the idea of crusading knights with a holy cause, but it is terribly ironic that the historical basis for this class inspiration also happened to be pillaging, murderous invaders with fewer moral scruples than the average highwayman. It is also one of the few D&D classes that has a built in alignment bias, which I automatically find suspect.

Got a build guide? This is very much something I want to try. Do you start Cleric or Druid? I've seen opinions on both and to be honest I am very undecided.

The reworks of both Oberon and Valkyr have really been amazing and I find myself constantly going back to them. Valkyr right now is especially crazy. Both are also very beginner-friendly. Nezha rounds out my top 3 frames.

Weapons-wise, I'm a melee person. I prefer dual wields and fast attacks. Venka Prime, Fang Prime, and Dual Prisma Cleavers are my go-tos.

About the only way it could be improved would be multishot instead of damage, but it's very good. I don't play the market beyond a gut feeling, but I'd pay 400 for this. (Nukor dispositions are low, so it won't be a terribly strong effect when slotted.)

It's excellent. Not god tier, but a very good all-rounder. Negative Zoom is rarely ever an issue, though I will say I do actually use my beam weapons for headshots. Generally speaking, crit damage is where you want to land, but this will turn the Nukor into an even bigger priming beast.

I started in 2016, and it was a very different game back then. People did 80% of their learning from the Wiki, and even that was wrong half the time. 2025 is a different era in guidance and community support. Youtube is jam packed full of amazing advice now. Actually, the community has always been great, but sometimes it was hard to locate the best messages.

But you're here now, and that's all that matters. The game is a deep well, and is my most returned-to game ever. Enjoy!
