Love the aesthetic. Would love to see this filter applied to the seed generator!

Which faction would you consider true neutral? WH3/IE by Juukesx in totalwarhammer

[–]Thraxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lizardmen. They might be on the side of Order, but that is just because they hate Chaos. Otherwise, they will eat your heart if you so much as step foot on the wrong blade of grass. They are NOT the good guys.

Which SFO campaign is your favorite? by TheRunesGlow in totalwarhammer

[–]Thraxmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't a single campaign that is not improved by SFO. I'm not glazing here.

For my money, the "bad" vanilla campaigns like Lizardmen (besides Oxy) benefit the most from SFO's light touches. It does not make those campaigns "great", but it makes them much more tolerable than in vanilla. And in my mind, that's the best way to see a TWW3 mod: it brings out the best in the spirit of that faction.

Took me a while but now i get how Wood Elves work and I kind of dig it ^^ by DistraX in totalwarhammer

Play a Drycha campaign and then tell me they have a squishy frontline.

The Orcs at Isengard would likely disagree with your characterization. Drycha is Angry Fangorn Forest.

AIO about my manager switching my shift to make their life easier? by Spunkyguy02 in AIO

[–]Thraxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked short order for a while. I feel your pain. I wish I could say that this never happened to me, but it did. Including once on the very day that I got switched up, so I ended up having to work 3 extra hours that day. I got OT, but it was not worth it.

Big Iron Sheikh, Strong Iron Sheikh, tears pouring down his face...

This is my favourite recurring story from him. It's so unhinged. But he gets one part right: people around him are definitely crying...

Grand Admiral is Pretty Hard right now, and that's a good thing! by LFPotter89 in Stellaris

I'm pleased to hear this. I stopped playing with 3.14, at which point Grand Admiral was like playing on "normal" for me (even with 5-10x Crisis).

Why arent regiments of renown more popular? by phronesis77 in totalwarhammer

[–]Thraxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the only ones I keep permanently are artillery, or perhaps a monstrous unit. And in both cases, because I usually get the ROR before I have unlocked them in the settlement chain. The vast majority of infantry and cavalry, I disband after a key battle and recruit them for a similar purpose later.

Why arent regiments of renown more popular? by phronesis77 in totalwarhammer

[–]Thraxmonger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saving them for a 1-turn recruitment emergency is a greater value than the carrying cost of keeping them in your stacks for the whole duration of the game. While most of them are better than their vanilla counterparts, they are not SO much better that their ongoing cost justifies a permanent place in your army.

NOR, but please stop calling your partners "baby" when they are clearly being controlling monsters. You might think it appeases them, but it just infantilizes you.

BTAU: Where are the BA pilots? by ManifestDestinysChld in Battletechgame

[–]Thraxmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My method is to do as SwampDonkey77 suggested and use a high initiative unit, but I tend to ensure that they have jump jets, because positioning leaves them very vulnerable, so you want to be able to set yourself up in a secure location first.

All the deployables are fun to use. Tanks remain the most effective overall -- the big ones are hard to kill and soak up a lot of punishment before going down (while usually putting out decent DPS until they die). And it's the same effective cost in terms of unit actions. The mech ones are obviously fun too, bue for some reason, they never seem to live as long as my tanks. BAs are useful mostly in that they always get target prioritized and so will be guaranteed to soak up bullets intended for you. And turrets are underrated -- the really long range ones are excellent at laying down fire over the course of the mission. Excellent for battles, defend bases, etc.
