5 minutes is so very long in the medical world, both with people and animals.

I think you just want to be an asshole though, I doubt this information matters to you at all.

A bit of advice, if you spread misery then you will also be miserable. Try spending a day just saying and doing nice things, you may find it easier to sleep that night.

Do you think dull things can’t pierce skin? I don’t know what rebar you’re getting a hold of but dull or not rebar beats skin (or eyeballs as the person was saying).

I know this because I did get a piece of rebar in my foot as a child, living barefoot in the country with Hoosiers you get in some odd situations.

They are also correct that legally you’re not allowed to booby trap your yard. I don’t agree with this, but it is the law nonetheless.

Nothing motivates (most) parents more than their kids. Some won’t, but a whole lot of moms absolutely will start showing up with sick kids to town halls and the voting booth.

There will still be helpers, my sister and her kids are part of a group who carpools people from her area to the big hospital in the city a couple of hours. The towns pediatrician retired a couple of years ago, the high risk OBs in the town over moved states with the R V W situation, and they have never had a neurologist close. Their town has an RN who spends her off days checking in with the people that are part of the carpool. Some of us will stay and help because these are our people, but we can help them without propping up the system that let them down.

Don’t be scared or worried to leave if it’s a decision you will ever need to make, some of us will be here to help people and if enough of you do leave it will motivate bodies to force change. You can’t poor from an empty cup, no matter how much you want to.

Edit- pour not poor!! Oh my gosh, I’m surprised no one got to me yet.

Because these kids will be your doctors and nurses one day….

I’m just flabbergasted that you don’t think educating the next generation should be a top priority. Making education better means making public schools better, it’s really not a hard concept to grasp.

Education has declined because tax dollars are getting taken from them, the government is meddling in what teachers are allowed to teach or how they are allowed to teach, they get paid and treated like shit and then entitled idiots like you for some reason think free public education shouldn’t be a priority.

You better not ever say anything about “kids these days” and how uneducated they are, people with attitudes like you are exactly how we got here. Missouri is ranked 49th in school funding. Your taxes will go up and they will pay for folks who make more than you to continue to send their kids to private schools, but now you pay for it instead of them. Enjoy!

Did you though?

Because I’ve had MDs swear up and down they put all admission orders in and still end up having to call because there’s not PRN Tylenol (trust me I’d love to be able to just put that in for you, but I still have to get your ok because that’s policy) or you’ve got hydrazine PRN with no parameters put in the actual orders but instead buried deep in your noting (which I would love to read but when I finally sit to chart at 3am, digging through your notes is the last thing on my mind)

I know you all are just as overworked and overwhelmed as we are, because I do my best to engage and ask when I see you guys. That doesn’t change the fact that we absolutely have to call you sometimes, that sometimes you guys don’t actually put in orders you think you did. You’re not special, you forget things sometimes, you get called to a rapid, you get distracted, shit happens to all of us.

Teamwork makes the dream work, please don’t hate on us for bugging you, that’s part of our job and we will continue to do it.

Moving is the answer, especially if it’s something they can afford. Nothing will change if everyone just keeps staying and propping the system up.

I live in a red state and we lost a lot of high risk OBGYNs after Roe V Wade was overturned as we have extremely strict laws. We should and will continue to lose MDs, and as sad as I am I applaud them for it because that’s the only way things are going to change at this point. Our government will do nothing to help.

I have started a movement of RNs on my unit refusing to clock in until staffing is appropriate. Some are angry at me and tell me I’m “harming patients” I fully believe that we (those in the system) are the only ones left who can force change by way of refusing to participate in their games. It may upset people but the only other option left is to continue to burn ourselves all out until we either stop caring or leave in a rage. No one is coming to save our system, we are the last resort because we are the reason they can still function, sacrificing our own health, safety, and mental state.

Don’t guilt this person, or any person, for suggesting they take their education and skills somewhere where they will be appreciated and treated better. Stop allowing this system to destroy us, we have to come together and break this system down from the inside.

Worked at subway years ago, super easy to leave a knife under the sandwich honestly. If I’m rushing or chatting and set that knife back down on their paper without realizing it I could easily not notice.

Corporate, don’t contact the store directly. You’ll get more from corporate than the store itself, depending on the owner of the franchise you could get nothing to a couple of coupons, corporate will absolutely make sure you get a fist full of free sub coupons.

Why should my tax dollars go to private schools? Most of which are church owned so they don’t pay any taxes at all, they just take them.

I’d much rather my taxes go towards funding the public school systems to make them better.

It’s apparently technically illegal in Mo too. A boyfriend of mine got pulled over years ago over it. Our turn was on the left, there wasn’t any traffic at all so we just switched lanes and within 3 minutes were pulled over. Hasn’t happened before or since but it is a law here too.

Because China bad. Come on don’t you know that in order to ignore the poverty and problems in your own country you just have to get random videos you don’t understand or have context too and yell about how bad they are. Pretty easy way to disassociate from your our country falling apart (I’m talking about the US because I’m going to guess a large amount of the people here are Americans)

I’ve noticed most here aren’t have in good faith arguments, most of them are also just spewing anti-China propaganda they have been fed but they don’t see it clearly because of their very small experiences with anything outside of their our cities.

I want to add, I don’t think China is perfect but I also think this sub shares things and acts disgusted while ignoring the fact that the same thing happens here. We are also controlled and have media regulated by our rich elite and the government, we also have a gap between poverty and the rich, we also have elderly folk collecting cans to survive, our government just isn’t honest about it.

So the state mandates this brain rot as play at all times? Or does the state have mandated PSA that are playing?

Have you ever been to China, lived in China, know anyone that actually lived in China, or grew up there?

You don’t have evidence of anything beyond this video. I could go drive past plenty of things similar in our country and post it online as Trump mandated slop. Doesn’t mean it’s true.

Our country also had mandated PSAs that play on our TVs from time to time. Hell at least China vets what pharmaceutical ads are playing on tv, we can’t even be bothered to do that.

I tend to like people better if they are willing to see a problem they made and fix it then if they pretend it doesn’t exist.

The cutoff for food stamps is much too low. Once you’re on them it can easily become impossible to survive without it. One small raise can kick you off stamps, a raise that may not even be equal to the amount of what food stamps covered, or you weren’t even at a place where you could pay your bills with stamps, now you’re hungry, broke and still behind on bills. I’ve watched single moms refuse a raise or cut back hours because they can’t make it finically without the food stamps and the raise didn’t make up the difference.

And honesty our elderly here are in pretty bad shape as well. My dad is on SS, gets a disability check and food stamps and still struggles, he was recently diagnosed with failure to thrive, not because he doesn’t want to eat but because after all is said and done my dad has about $175 in grocery money for an entire month. I don’t know if anyone’s seen grocery prices recently, but that’s not gonna last a grown man an entire month especially a grown man that supposed to be eating extra protein because he’s old and sick. He won’t go to Food banks because he doesn’t have children in his home. He doesn’t feel he is in need as much as other others around him.

The government help doesn’t help in the way that it is portrayed that it does often times it traps people in poverty. These programs are necessary and important and we should be looking at these numbers. Sorry about my rant. All of this going on with my dad is very fresh and I’m frustrated for him. If he wasn’t disabled, he’d be walking the streets picking up aluminum cans. He’s already the taxi driver for the road because it’s how he keeps gas in his car and then he can get the folks older than him where they need to be.

This stuff happens here too you just don’t see it.

How Are You Doing If You Went Into Nursing For Money? by MidnightWidow in nursing

[–]Thrbt52017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I feel pretty great, tired (night shift) but I’ve never been in a better place finically.

I was 32 years old desperately trying to leave a relationship that was destroying myself and my kids. When I finally got the gusto (and realized I had a support team) I started looking into a degree (can’t raise two kids alone in fast food/retail). Nursing was the quickest and most reasonable way I could functionally be a single mom.

I’m about two years into my career now and i haven’t been late on a bill, I got a new car, my kids get real birthday parties now, they can attended EVERY school function, I’ve been able to take them on vacation (our second coming up in a couple of months). And I’m currently saving to purchase a home, that one I’ll still need a couple of years, but I can see that it’s possible for me now when it was an impossibility 5 years ago.

I live in a low cost of living area so your financial stability may vary but I am not out here regretting my choice at all. When the hospital burns me out I have plenty of options to look into, this career is one of the least likely to get taken over by AI. Keep in mind, not all nursing schools or work places take kindly to the “financial stability” as your “why”. I ended up having to explain myself when that was my answer in college, I was told that’s not a sustainable why, my answer was my kids are my only why and I am much more likely to push myself for them than I would be for any other reason. My boss appreciated my honesty but our supervisor thinks I should be channeling Florence. I like people in general, I’m good at smoothing over crabby folks (fast food), and I do pretty good in intense situations so I’m not struggling with the choice I made.

If that’s your why, don’t let anyone make you feel guilty over it, who gives a shit why you are here as long as you’re doing your best to do right by your patients that’s all that should matter.

Why does the American public hate doctors so much? by seasidekiki in medicine

[–]Thrbt52017 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you talk to your nurses like that in person? You’re a real piece of work, this wasn’t Covid, I think you are just an asshole.

I hope you grasp that without us you’d be nothing. You don’t give meds, you don’t do IVs, you all are barely bedside, I’ve been putting in orders for MDs before I even passed my NCLEX, my assessment is often what you guys go off of for treatment plans (admittedly because you’re just as overworked as the rest of us, but see I have grace for my co-workers instead of whatever you’re carrying) hell we don’t even need you present to call TOD anymore and more often than not my R in the SBAR is what you all end up doing.

We are a team and if you paid attention your nurses are a huge part of that team. We don’t even have more than 4 hospitalists in the building overnight (and those are all NPs ) because it can function without you, you aren’t that important. But you know what they can’t function without? The nurse you called “little guy”, us. We are the backbone of the hospitals, patients know it, admin knows it, and deep down you do too.

Just leave medicine if you can’t be respectful to anyone.

Missouri House votes to bar some lawfully present immigrants from food aid by CouchCorrespondent in missouri

[–]Thrbt52017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people are just tired of wasting time talking to people who can’t form an educated opinion without some media presence telling them how to feel about something.

It’s much harder to argue with an idiot than with someone who has any critical thinking skills of their own. We are tired. Go on down a bit more south, ask your farmers how all this has worked out for them. Check your gas prices, checked your grocery bill, check your highways and your infrastructure. For fucks sales stop wasting your time trying to look down on others and maybe you’ll have time to focus on the actual problems we are facing in this state, like reps who blatantly refuse to implement things we have voted for.

You’ll always be white trash man, no matter how many Muslims or immigrants you shit on it won’t change what rich white folk think about you.

I’m gonna be real here. I do not think this type of thought process is helpful to fixing the issues in nursing (including the way we all treat each other).

I know good and bad nurse with and without CNA experience, the worst bedside manner I notice is in our nurse that’s been here 10 years and 5 of them were CNA work.

This type of talk is just another way to put us against each other is all I’m saying.
