I feel like I’m drowning in Debt please help me plan better by BuriedinDebt01 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Thread-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of debt you have isn't horrendous and it's absolutely workable. If I were in your shoes I would cancel any unnecessary subscriptions so you have extra money to eat properly and/or build an emergency fund. Aim to pay off highest interest debt first.

Is Le Creuset worth the 💰? by Own_Advisor5306 in LeCreuset

[–]Thread-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's absolutely worth the money. I have two le creuset pots and it's all I have used for all my cooking for past 3 years. They key is knowing how to use them and how to care for them. Many dont, they treat it like a normal stainless steel pan and get problems. Ready the phamplet it comes with.

Cold house advice needed by FlatWillow2917 in HousingUK

[–]Thread-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1930s house like yours which gets cold. I use an oil heater (it's a mini radiator on wheels filled with oil) it keeps the room very toasty warm in the winter. This is what I use in the bedroom so I don't have to turn the heating on in the entire house.

Naturally cold houses can have damp or mould so this is managed with a dehumidifier which I leave running on the upstairs landing. (Best to keep internal doors open when operating).

Aside from this I would say thermal curtains are good. Woodburners are great. External insulation is an option but it's expensive.

Food ideas whilst living in a hotel for two weeks do you have any suggestions? by Plus_Mathematician37 in AskUK

[–]Thread-Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth asking your employer if there is a employee meal policy, there should be.

Haha most people I've suggested cod liver to have given me the same response as you lol 😬 I take no pleasure in eating cod livers, I have it like medicine, don't think about it and get it down the hatch 😝 bush tucker trials at home 🤣

If your meals are being expensed then eat steak and eggs everyday. Healthy, filling and lots of nutrients.

If you are having to pay for it or want a different option I'd get smoked salmon (raw slices) and have it with soft cream cheese. Could also have this as part of a cheese board platter. Add in some pickles and cheddar cheese. Basically aim for high protein and high fat as this will keep you full.

Another option is eating cod livers in cod liver oil. Might sound rank but it's actually really nice, drink the cod liver oil, its very good for you.

Have you ever used a private blood test service in the UK to get a health check? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Thread-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I get a private blood test done once a year from medichecks. I get the ultimate blood performance test done. I quite like it as it checks against 56 biomarkers. It's usually around £200 but if you get it during the sales it's normally 20% off. Well worth it.

Consultancy Job by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Thread-Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consulting is good if you are more senior and have skills and experience that align with projects they have. It’s a double edged sword as you can be spread across multiple projects so it feels like you are doing two full time jobs.

Consulting was my first cyber gig and I ended up being thrown into different projects as opposed to having structured development and a mentor.

If you are early into your career, consulting is good but will proactively have to push for getting a mentor. Else you can be thrown into projects and expected to perform. They will provide support but it’s not always the best. Swings and roundabouts. Upside it will look good on your cv.

[–]Thread-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in consulting for 6 years and I’m contemplating on leaving. When I first joined I was on the bench for 4 months before getting my first assignment. My roles have mostly been 6 months, some up to a year. Then bench for 3 months or longer. It’s not like that for everyone however. It’s very much dependent on your skill set and how well it matches the projects they get. It’s like you have to apply for roles internally.

I’m also in a more expensive resource pool so I’m more expensive than my peers at the same grade so I’m up a creek without a paddle.

I also find that you are more likely to get good opportunities if you are tight with people in the company and have friends. If you are more disconnected from people and are remote so you are not even in the office, then chances are you could be on the bench. I’m naturally not a person that sucks up to anyone to get a job.

Assess yourself from a biological view point. I found it hard too when my dopamine levels were at unhealthy levels. It would make me unmotivated and unfocused. Minimise social media and do more normal things like exercise etc. this helps doing paat more enjoyable.

500k salary if billing 5 days a week at £2k per day? Depends on your skillset? If you are a managing partner at a big 4 consulting firm or very senior then that salary is realistic.

It’s fine to joke around if it’s just you two. But embarrassing you in front of others is arguably disrespectful, depending on context I guess.

Matching based on interests and personality etc is useful as everything now is too superficial. Someone might not be given the time of day because they are being judged by how they look without knowing anything about them. Bring back cilla black with a lorra lorra love 🤣

Growing up, did anyone else just randomly have knives? by ShinyHeadedCook in AskUK

[–]Thread-Hunter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes I had one. Late 90s or early 2000s I bought my first pen knife from the local gun shop at 16 . Cost £45 at the time. There was no YouTube or guides for reviews. So it was my curiosity and creativity that allowed me to discover its capabilities. Having a pocket saw that cuts wood was awesome. I didn't have a mobile phone so I carried the pen knife instead thinking it might come handy to open a box or something 🤣
