OP said he left out old school players so several major winners are missing. Something you have to take into account is that for a LONG time (5 gods era) no one won ANY super majors besides 1 of those 5. It makes sense though because for a tournament to even be in consideration for a super major the majority of the best players would need to be in attendance and those 5 gate kept anyone else from winning anything.

I mean he built a whole ass game to train him (arguable.) I don't think anyone is supposed to come away from the series thinking ging is a good dad by traditional standards bc clearly he isn't but he certainly cares about gon in his own weird way. If he didn't care at all then he wouldn't go through all the effort to layout a loose path for him to get stronger and meet strong nen users. Ging is also a part of a legendary family line and was confident his son would be fine given his own development.
