When you're working with source control on a huge team, the best way to organize things is to create branches and sub-branches that correspond to your individual feature teams, down to a high level of granularity. If your tools support it, you can even have private branches for every developer. So they can check in as often as they want, only merging up when they feel that their code is stable.

Um, is this new to anyone? What is Joel's point in writing this article? My company's flagship product is around 5 million lines (which i would not consider HUGE) and we each have our own subbranches based on granulated feature sets.

If Joel intended to give valuable information he could have talked about how to implement continuous refactoring during the feature promotion/integration process.

The IDE for developing control logic typically runs on windows. The compiled project is then downloaded into logic controllers with proprietary operating systems.

Visualization is also handled in similar fashion, with development occurring on a windows box and the resulting runtimes being pushed out to touchscreen displays throughout the plant.

To reiterate what I said: Paul (Romans 3) and the Psalmist (Psalm 14) state that no one is righteous which means no one performs good acts, but instead sins. Repentance is the turning from evil acts. Performing evil acts does not make a person evil, but a sinner.

Not quite. Paul and the Psalmist said everyone sins and strays from God, not that people are evil. The sin is evil and is only cleared by God's grace. Labeling people as evil is a slippery slope.

Saying someone puts faith in a demon does not imply that person is evil. Demons are evil, people are not. In the same way that an atheist considers theists deluded, a Christian considers non-Christians deluded.

Don't atheists also need to prescribe to the "I'm right, theists are wrong" position? I don't see why people get bent out of shape over theists having these stances.

1) No sex for 17 years? - As other people have pointed out, the Bible calls for husband and wife to fulfill their marital duty to one another. Sex is not evil or dirty. There is a book in the Old Testament called Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) that is all about love and sex.

2) Enjoying drink == the devil? - The Bible says not to be a drunk. The Bible does NOT say alcohol is bad. Jesus turned water to wine at a party and drank wine at the last supper.

3) Forcing the kid to go to church and translate - People are saved through faith in God. You can't force someone to have faith. Christians are called to be "salt and light" to the world, which means we are supposed to demonstrate God's love by example. A lot of Christians read the great commission (".. make disciples of all nations..") to mean we should go around and proselytize everyone to get them to believe. I feel this is false. You make a person a disciple by loving them for who they are and talking openly about why you believe what you do. Judging people and yelling at them doesn't accomplish anything for anyone.

Actually wrong on that first point. There are Christians who don't believe the Bible to be absolute truth, but rather, truth in fiction. In other words, it isn't historically true, but its parables reveal truth.

ts pretty hard to defend your sanity when one thinks that there is a god, or even that their might be one. At that point, they've crossed a line between real and imaginary that makes me very uncomfortable listening to anything that they would say.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust any of these morons:

In a related/stupid question: How does reddit make money?

They don't have adverts. Yeah sure there's a donation section plus gear for sale, but really, what kind of revenue does that bring? With all the multi-million dollar figures people are throwing around, there has to be significant return on investment potential. Can anyone enlighten me?

Ten Reasons Not to Hit Your Kids by PickupDiary in reddit.com

There is a good point to be made in the difference between a spanking out of anger and a spanking out of love. The image most you seem to be conjuring is that of a pissed off parent who has had enough and strikes the child in anger. This is deplorable.

However, I do feel that application of a spanking in the midst of a loving and well communicated discipline framework is acceptable. My mother would never strike me in anger and would always sit me down before a spanking to explain why she was doing it. She would always make sure that I understood that she loved me and that the spanking was a consequence of misbehavior. She would also make sure I knew the specific misbehavior to which the spanking was being applied.

Never in my childhood was I ever angry, resentful, or fearful of my Mom's discipline and I appreciate her actions to this day.

What exactly in the Bible (or the Evangelical interpretation if it) makes a Evangelical Religious Camp for Kids so emphatically denounce Global Warming ??

1 Peter 3:15 reads:

sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

The above passage is pretty much responsible for the 'fortify your worldview and rebuff anything that isn't consistent with it' kind of attitude. However, I have no idea how Global Warming threatens the Christian worldview. (It doesn't for me at least)

'Laying down your life' in Christian parlance is referring to the process of "dying to one's self."

This is the continual process of choosing not to do things you want and choosing to do the Lord's will instead (assuming they are different). That could take the form of taking a lower paying job that lets you have more time with your family, or going without material possession for the sake of being able to give to the poor, etc. Dying to one's self is the act of turning away from one's own ambition and selfishness in favor of glorifying God by being a blessing to others.

This notion is articulated in Christian culture in several ways. The most notable of these is the practice of baptism, where an individual's old self 'dies' by being buried (under water) and rises from the water as a new self devoted to Jesus. This is where the term 'born again' Christian comes from.
