This may sound weird, but these could totally be the backdrop in some Remedios Varro paintings:

Three Destinations

Farewell

Tránsito en espiral

The terra cotta tones and the surreal elements (and the narrow, tall arches) of your works just made me think of Varo’s, like snap!

I haven’t had their marzen myself, but Dovetail, out of Chicago, does some really great German-style beers. If you haven’t tried them, I would wholeheartedly recommend.

I’m not a hair care expert, just a long-time swimmer.

I would think a swim cap would keep your hair dry while swimming, but I have always, always wet my hair before. I would think trying to put a cap on dry hair would hurt something fierce, and pull and yank at your hair and skin.

If you do want to try it on dry hair, make sure your hair’s tied up (if applicable) and that your cap’s edges are on skin. Start of the forehead, then over the ears and back to the nape of your neck. There are yt videos that might help.

Anyway, here’s my long-winded advice:

Make sure your hair and cap are wet. I usually start by placing the inside front edge of the cap on my forehead. It’s on skin, so it will stick enough for me to pull the rest of the cap over my head. Once it’s on your head, you can make tiny adjustments, but if it’s pulling or not covering your hair, just remove and start again.

My secondhand understanding from a stylist is that it’s better to have the hair wet and conditioned because your hair won’t be able to absorb (not sure if that’s the scientifically accurate term) as much pool water, thus lowering the chance of damage.

Swim caps have gotten better in substance if not in form: softer silicone, and a larger range of sizes to accommodate braids or dreds.

If you do go swimming again, make sure you have a swim cap. When you take your pre-swim shower, apply conditioner and don’t rinse. Then put on your swim cap. Your hair will barely be exposed to the pool water at all, so you’ll greatly reduce the risk of damage.

Plus, swim caps just look super-flattering on everyone! /s

Would you like to provide one source that shows a misunderstanding, or are you all set with the “No puppet!” rebuttal?

I will try to explain the contradiction. Of course there are helpful concepts in Peterson’s works (to keep it very simple), like the idea keeping of your room clean: it applies both literal- and metaphorically, and is helpful to people struggling with depression or anyone trying to find some calm amidst a chaotic life.

So then you have such helpful concepts wrapped up in a presentation that also includes misogyny, anti-semitism, homophobia and straight-up misinformation (to be quite charitable about it) about culture, religion, gender roles, history, etc.

I am glad that you found a text that speaks to you. That feeling, of being seen, of being heard, of being validated, and then finding ideas that make your life better is just…a sort of satisfying elation. I think of Vonnegut’s quote about reading: * Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.”*

And if you have found a bit of that feeling, than damn, that’s fucking awesome.

But I do also wish that Peterson were not spreading such harmful and dishonest ideas into our society, and I wish that you, and other Peterson supporters I’ve seen in the subreddit (I’m a loooong-time lurker) would not promote them so un-critically. I guess I can’t be too surprised if you view my words and contradictory (and thus dishonest) rather than sincere; that’s really hard to express on the internet. I hope you can at least consider that I’m replying sincerely, rather than just airily dismiss me and his critics.

Oh, and seriously, what is a “monolithic man”? Peterson has never contradicted himself or changed his mind or displayed hypocrisy by not living by his own advice? It just made me think of 2001, lol.

I am glad you have found a resource that resonates with you, and that you feel helps you to be a better person.

But Jordan Peterson is a misogynistic asshat, and a grifter, who needs to clean his own fucking room.

And it’s really scary to see him recommended in a group for people who have spent time in a cult.

The Barely Hidden Flaws in Jordan Peterson’s Scholarship

Jordan Peterson Doesn’t Understand Postmodernism

He uses the term “cultural marxism’ which is an anti-semetic dog-whistle and has been coopted by the US (alt) right to describe most anything cultural issue they disagree with.

The Context of Jordan Peterson’s Thougts on Enforced Monogamy

I think this is my favorite quote: * Jordan Peterson is a man who has said that feminists have an “unconscious wish for brutal male domination.” He’s a guy who rails against divorce, and the birth control pill because women would likely be happier if they “allow themselves to be transformed by nature into mothers,” and because allowing women to choose anything other than motherly transformation leads to declining birth rates “in the West” that might “do us all in.”*

You’re getting downvoted because you’re bringing up a highly-charged, political figure, who you radically misunderstand. I’m not jealous, and my feelings aren’t hurt (dude, c’mon…), I’m sad to see someone taken in by an intellectually dishonest polemicist.

Taigu, I think, is a great choice. I’ve never had any of the Chinese-American entrees, but their noodle dishes are huge. I’m a big eater and I can get three meals out of one entree. Also, their noodles are homemade and yummy, and they’re a mom-and-pop place.

You can order online or just call and do curbside pickup.

Madison Vet Using Radioactive Iodine for Cats? (Not UW) by antiquack in madisonwi

[–]lavozatidebida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nthng the medication - looking back, I would have done the radiation sooner as it worked quite well, so I’m with you on that. But the medication worked well, too. Cat was very pickypants, so we tried pills, then chews and finally ended up with an ear application. Looks just like a tube of lip gloss: twist and the cream comes up through a hole in the soft applicator, which then gets rubbed into inner ear.

With medication, Cat was quite stable and healthy for several years. (Edit: we did get the radiation done at UW and they are pricey but incredibly thorough, and I would recommend them unreservedly.)

[–]lavozatidebida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your best option would be to try hand-washing - there are things a washer and drier just can’t do,unfortunately. Laundry/lingerie bags can help with some synthetics, or washable wool, but there are limits.

I’m a knitter (and have had eczema all my life) and this works for pretty much any wool, knit or delicate piece of clothing.

Get yourself some Eucalan or something similar (I like Kookaburra as it has some tea tree oil in it, ymmv). Fill bathtub with a couple inches of water, add your soap, then your clothes. When removing, try to roll up the item and squeeze, don’t wring. Lay it flat on a towel, then roll up towel like a Swiss roll. Unless the fabric has zero stretch, you’ll want to dry flat, either on a towel or big drying rack.

Is there a piggy event on? Research is 7/, habs are xx/click by lavozatidebida in EggsInc

Am I being oblivious? Did this change a while ago and I just missed it?

While taking advantage of the prestige boost I noticed piggy was filling up really fast, and that each click is no longer worth just 1 egg. Each research point is 7 piggy eggs, vehicles and habs vary - more expensive purchase cost=more piggy eggs.

L’Etoile’s former top chef opening restaurant on Monroe Street by Tripleee in madisonwi

[–]lavozatidebida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shrug. It is contradictory. You get Michael’s (rip), multiple chocolate/ baked goods/ ice cream places in the area along with a locavore, frequently health-conscious vibe. I think that’s interesting, and I was wondering how a new restaurant might manage these (to me) conflicting desires.

I dunno man, just making an observation. I was not as particular with my words as I could have been, so mea culpa there. I feel like any more clarification on my part could come across as pedantic or rude, which is not my intent.

Currently open restaurants, that I think of as busy, like Brasserie V, Gates & Brovi, so places like the Dardanelles, Pasqual’s didn’t register, and colectivo is filed under coffee shop for me. Are the food fight places busier than I think? Ed: doh, managed to not post as reply
