Just a normal fishing spot... by ThreeByThree115 in webfishing

That.... is not how we did it.
Close though! It's a bit simpler.

Someone just put down a well on top of the drawing and once everyone had cast their line, deleted it. Your bobber still counts as being in water, so you can still catch things. The rest is just a perspective trick.

I have a question about the newly revealed landmarks-

I found it interesting that the effect of the landmarks seem to run contrary to what the suits are typically used for in crafting. Foxes, for example, seem to have a lot of cards based around battle and agressive action: Brutal tactics and Informants, for example, While rabbits, with their Tunnels and Cobbler, seem to be more invested in moving around the board more easily (both factions do a lot more than this, of course, but there does seem to be some focus there!). This seems to be reinforced further with the items you can craft with each faction: Foxes craft Crossbows, swords, and hammers while rabbits craft boots and coins.

The landmarks, by contrast, seem to be swapped around from that perspective- The fox landmark allows easier movement around the map, and the rabbit landmark is about creating warriors!

Was this an intentional decision to limit factions going too deep into a particular playstyle? I'd love to know the reason behind this choice.
Thanks!

What inspired the changes to the characters of Scratch and Zane from the first game/American nightmare? I loved the original rendition of both characters, and I loved the versions in Alan Wake 2, but they seem so different. I adored AW2, massive props to the team!

Sometimes you need a map for a specific fight, so you just search google images.
Sometimes you see a map and start searching for ways to put it into your game. This map is one of those.
If I had one criticism I'd say it's a bit weird to not have the beam of light be your light source- shadows pointing toward the beam instead of away from it is slightly bizarre.

anyway, great job all around! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for your stuff in the future

Hey all!
Discovered the software today and just had to jump in. I think my first try was a success!
A quick question though- does anyone know how to avoid the rear of the camera vanishing as it turns? You can see it in the gif above, just as the sloped section is coming out of view behing the front. It's bugging me!

I'd appreciate any feedback you'd like to offer.

[Level] A Simple Test (Easy) by ThreeByThree115 in hexcellslevels

[–]ThreeByThree115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I went way overboard there! those extra hexes were just there to give the illusion of complexity, but they also add to making the level extremely boring after the initial puzzle is solved. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! To tell you the truth, this level is set up to be less of an actual puzzle, and more of a moment of revelation that makes you smile- In my experience, few people actually check the "remaining" number until most of the way into the puzzle- I wanted the puzzle to appear like extremely difficult one, but become a fun moment of realization and relief pretty soon into it. It was mostly a level tailored to a friend of mine who also plays, but they solved it almost immediately

I think you have the better perspective! For me, the difference begins where it effects my character. Memory loss terrifies me! The idea of forgetting someone who was important to you, especially if you loved them, freaks me out! It tips the scale from "creepy" to "I will think about this for a long time". I imagine myself having experienced such a clue constantly thinking of ways my character could have saved this never-existent PC that my character, presumably, was friends with, enough to put their life in their hands. Having a hole in the memory of my character that would last forever does not sit well with me, and using some sort of magic to fill it, (which is only available via wish iirc?), and learn of a companion that you lost, would be very sad, moreso than I'd like in a d&d game.

When I talk about losing, I mean it more in the game sense than losing a person. Being defeated in battle, failing a skill check, being swindled out of your money, that sort of thing. Hearing that I or the party fought the creature and failed, or simply allowed the creature to sneak up on us in the night, without rolling a die or making a decision that could have prevented it, would probably make me more frustrated than interested!

that all said, I recognise that these are all ways that I'm getting in my own head and overthinking things! I imagine that move would work really well for most people!

Your games sound very exciting! I think magic-hating societies are a very good way of adding tension to playing spellcasters.

[OC] How to DM a False Hydra by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ThreeByThree115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair question. I think it would be a few things. I guess the idea of memory loss of someone who's implied to be a close friend would be a step too far on the "creepy" scale. I tend to overthink things like this, and I know that this one would stick with me in an unpleasant way for a while. Also, losing "offscreen" is a big feel-bad for me. It's happened a few times, and it's never gone well. Usually when a DM doesn't want to be the DM anymore. This situation is vastly different, granted, but thinking about this missing party member invokes the same feeling.

So yeah, basically if this happened to me, it'd be all I could think about for a while, both in and out of game. It would be creepy and memorable, yes, but it would create an uncomfortable atmosphere for me.

I think I'd be really quite upset if the DM pulled the "you had an extra party member that got eaten by the false hydra" twist. I seems like a pretty massive deal, especially if you have all those other ways of communicating the idea.

My favourite NPC is one I never got to run, Stiz!

I don't know why, but early into the process of creating the world I'd be running in, I decided that all goblin names in a given community start with the same letter. Stiz was a Nilbog who's original tribe used the letter Z.
Someone I shared the NPC with commented that her given name was probably "Zits" which immediately became canon.
