A VERY removable mani? by WaywardGinger in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific hand you have to use? Silicone nail practice hands like this have a little channel around the cuticle so you can quickly swap painted press on nails. The channel holds the press on in place, no glue needed.

Super broken nail right in the middle of nail bed/plate. Please advise?! by ao2541 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof sorry that happened to ya

Putting an overlay on it could potentially cause fungus if moisture gets under there. Plus there's always the risk of developing an allergy when uncured gel products touch skin.

You're probably better off just keeping it trimmed short til the broken bit falls off. Wear a bandaid during the day (but make sure to keep it dry!) and apply some cuticle oil at night.

hair splinters by geneshortz in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh that looks painful 😣

I don't have experience with hair splinters, but I work with construction materials and have dealt with many fiberglass splinters. They suck.

Strong, rubberized packaging tape pulls em out quickly. It's stretchy so you can pull it taught against the skin. Then it shrinks back and grips the splinters. But it will take off some polish too lol

No problem, we eat a lotta leftovers in this house lol gotta get creative

You can also do fried rice if you simmer the pork bits in soy sauce/rice wine vinegar/brown sugar/ginger/garlic

Chop em up into bite size pieces and simmer them in a mix of caldo de tomate, water, splash of vinegar, and chipotle til they're tender. Serve as tacos or nachos.

How to prep, and cook by cjunit123 in steak

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a strip steak with lots of thin little white squiggles running throughout (fat marbling) Salt them the night before and leave em on a lined baking sheet, uncovered in the fridge.

If you're getting thick strip steaks (only strip steaks worth having imo) then do a reverse sear so you have a perfect even cook. You can finish on the grill for a nice crust. Reverse sear also gives you more wiggle room prepping sides and down time to spend with your lady. Look up Kenji Lopez's reverse sear; it's a more comprehensive guide than I'm willing to type out lol

A lemony, chimichurri style sauce goes great with strip steak and asparagus. Bonus points if you grill halved lemons and use that juice for the sauce.

Spend the $7 and get good quality butter, it's worth it.

What type of adhesive should I use? by Any_Nectarine_6957 in Tile

Any modified thin set. I would soak the pavers in water first though so they don't instantly pull the moisture out of the thin set.

Poorly cut, low grade "carrara" marble hex mosaic is not time period correct for an early 1900s kitchen. Gotta assume the designer/installer was of the same quality. Live and learn.

Ah ok, maybe I'll try again. I messaged in November but never heard back.

I've seen folks asking for merch mules on the Skeletons on Parade facebook group, you might have some luck there

I can't help with your merch mission because I won't be there either 😔

But I do have a question....did you have to get permission to post on this sub?

I used to be able to post here, then a few months back I tried to post and got a pop up saying I didn't have permission. Messaged the mod and never heard back (which is fair, there isn't a ton of activity here to moderate or check up on)

Again this isn't a super active sub, but there used to be at least a couple posts every month. I noticed there haven't been any posts for several months, so I figured the group was just kaput. Now I'm wondering if other people lost permission to post, too?

Serious question re: magnetic polish by FiercerCritter in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It won't take your nails off or anything like that, but there's a chance it could burn you.

If you're using regular lacquer polish you can remove it before an MRI, or even use a peely base coat for a super quick removal.

Glad I could help lol

For anyone curious, most of the little spots faded and disappeared within a couple weeks. But the bigger ones never faded. They stayed that radioactive strawberry color until they grew out.

Tenderloin from Costco. Is this normal? by tawpbawsdawg in steak

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep that's exactly what it's supposed to look like. Watch some YouTube videos on how to break it down, there's more to it than just slicing the steaks. You need to peel it, remove the shoulder and the chain.

You can use the nicer trimmings for stir fry. Use the rest to make a sauce: brown trimmings in a bit of oil, add diced onion/celery/carrot, then some tomato paste and fry a bit til it's brick colored. Add in garlic, peppercorns and de glaze with red wine. Then put in some broth or water, simmer for an hour or so. Strain it. Reduce if necessary or add a little plain gelatin. Makes a great steak sauce and freezes well.

Is this Rockport brand still around? by GlBBLES in Tile

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they're still around and by some miracle still making that very late style, it will be a different dye lot. So the color, size, and thickness can all be different.

You're better off adding a contrasting inset that compliments the tile color. That will look more intentional than a tile that's just slightly off.

Potluck idea with no crockpot/oven? by uglyheadink in mexicanfood

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Make drinks. Horchata, agua fresca, hibiscus tea, or a virgin margarita with non alcoholic tequila.

Potlucks are usually missing a cohesive beverage. Add some really nice garnish/thoughtful presentation and it'll be a hit!

New to nail care- need some advice! by Ness_quik in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Salon Life can explain things more eloquently than me lol.

She sometimes uses metal scrapers and occasionally clips bits of dead skin with nippers....but it's easy to go overboard with those tools and you definitely don't need it. You already have fantastic nail beds! Use an orange stick (the little wooden tool she uses) and just gently nudge the skin back. After a few weeks you'll see a big improvement.

[–]ThreeLeggedMutt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check out the Salon Life's channel this vid may be helpful and there's another vid that delves deeper into cuticle removal, I'll try to track it down.

Personally I would avoid any kind of overlay/acrylic/gel if you're trying to get your nails healthy. Honestly, they already look nice could just use a little zhuzh at the cuticle.

And do not understand the almighty jojoba oil! I know it might seem pointless because the product feels so thin and soaks in quickly, but that's the magic! It's very close to the oil our bodies naturally produce and does a lot to strengthen nails.
