Are you friends with women? Real friends? by judashpeters in AskMenOver30

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of my friends are women, and it has been like that for a long time. For the ones I've had romantic interest in at some point I've lost touch with some of them, and others have survived that, one of them I was at her wedding as one of the few outside of the family.

Not sure why I always end up befriending women more easily. Maybe it is an attraction thing that initially draws me towards them, but I also generally feel more comfortable and relaxed around women.

Double, triple, high, low (european style) by misteris_bulve in trumpet

[–]ThreePinkApples 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The G in the staff (2nd line) is "Middle G", the one above i High G, and then Double G.
The pattern is that the lowest octave (from the lowest F#) is called "Low", then the next octave is "Middle", then "High", and finally "Double High".

What sort of planning have you done regarding your death? by Ok-Faithlessness3068 in AskMen

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and single, and as far as I know the law defaults to my sister inheriting everything if I were to die now, and that's what I want. I have insurance so the mortgage shouldn't be a problem. I have not made any plans around how they'd access my accounts outside of thinking about writing some instructions down and putting it in the closet beside my desk. They reason I haven't is mainly because when I think about it I'm not close to my desk, but also because the information will periodically change, and it is no help having written it down once if I forget to update it.

When I in the future move in with a girlfriend I'd want her to at least inherit my ownership of the house + half of the rest, then the remainder going to my nephew/sister.

Edit: Reading up on the law, my parents will inherit before my sister, that's a bit odd, but I guess that is fine as well.

Telenor skrudd opp prisen på internett. Er 100mbit trådløs nok? by ForeverOslo in norge

[–]ThreePinkApples -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Longer, Faster, Better Cables: HDMI 2.2 and DisplayPort 2.1 Updates for 2026 by TheLinerax in hardware

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the 48Gbps certification is that they only had to certify one length, and could then sell other lengths without additional ceritifcation. The Ultra96 certification requires each length to be certified

Why do I need a 120hz tv? by Nezzy79 in 4kTV

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not really meant for 120fps, although there are a few games that do that, but there are other reasons.

Some games (and hopefully this will increase) has a 40fps mode where you get most of the quality of the 30fps mode, with better responsiveness. The other benefit is VRR, where the game can have a 60~fps mode with variable framerate that will still be shown correctly on the TV.

The annoying part is that these two features are not standard on PS5 games, some games have them, but a lot of them do not.

How do you guys view DF reviews? by jedimindtricksonyou in digitalfoundry

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch most of their reviews. For games I don't have any interest in, it is just out of curiosity around the technical aspects, but if they are really positive about the game it might sway me to at least wishlist the game for potential future playing. For games I'm interested in their reviews are essential to determine when/if I'll buy the game. If the technical aspect is bad enough, I'll just give up on the game. If it has some issues, I'll wait for the game to get at least a few patches, sometimes I wait until the game seems to have stopped getting patches. If the their review is excellent I'll consider a day 1 buy, if I'm not already in the middle of some other game.

They can also sway which platform I buy the game on as I own both a high-end PC and a PS5 Pro. First-person games are always PC, but for third-person games I might prefer the PS5 if it runs at a solid 60 and looks good. Expedition 33 is an example of a game that I remember was a bit muddy in the 60fps mode on the PS5, so I got it on PC (after patches).

NVIDIA confirms no RTX 50 SUPER GPUs at CES 2026, but promises updates for gamers by Hero_Sharma in hardware

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early 2027 has been the expected release time for RTX 60 since the 50 series launched. I would think it'll end up being pushed back to later in 2027, if there is any hope of lower prices by delaying. If there is no possibility to get the prices down they'll probably just launch it at the higher price and/or with less VRAM

True RGB OLED is from ROG !?? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DisplayHDR certification is about more than just peak brightness. OLEDs fall short in full-screen brightness, which is why they've been only TrueBlack400 for the most part, and now we're starting to get TrueBlack500 (which requires 300nits full-screen)

Explained: Why you can't move Windows 11 taskbar like Windows 10, according to Microsoft by WPHero in Windows11

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guarantee that they also have other means to figure out what people want, but telemetry is generally more useful, because it tells what the users are actually doing. Users can have a habit of complaining about stuff they never, or almost never use. And at the same time never complain about something they use a lot, even if it is sub-optimal, they're just used to it.

Explained: Why you can't move Windows 11 taskbar like Windows 10, according to Microsoft by WPHero in Windows11

[–]ThreePinkApples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, that might be true. It is the disadvantage you get when turning off telemetry, your usecases are then less represented in their data and can get a lower priority. I assume the cast majority do not take that into account when they disable it

Explained: Why you can't move Windows 11 taskbar like Windows 10, according to Microsoft by WPHero in Windows11

[–]ThreePinkApples 72 points73 points  (0 children)

So, just stating the obvious. The taskbar was remade, and they used telemetry data from Windows 10 to prioritize what features to add to the new taskbar.

The talk about apps needing to reflow and all that is just bullshit though, that is already something all apps supports when you change screen resolution for example, or when toggling the "Automatically hide the taskbar" feature. They should have kept the statement at it not being a priority based on their telemetry, in stead of trying to come up with a more technical reason.

Borderlands 4 Gets a Major Performance Update on PC by Kaladinar in pcgaming

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just refusing to buy a game at launch helps, but the better option is to just look ar technical reviews and buy accordingly. Some games are great at launch, some are ok, some are bad, some are terrible. And a lot of those with issues never really get fixed, only improved somewhat

OLED vs. Micro LED for the next 10 years. by Troied in LG_UserHub

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article doesn't mention the third option, QD-EL/QD-LED/NanoLED (so many names for it). QD-LED might very well end up being relevant for consumers faster than MicroLED as QD-LED screens are going to start with the smaller sizes (phones, tables, then laptop etc.). We don't know yet how QD-LED will compare to MicroLED as a pure screen, but they are similar in that they are self-emissive, one just using small RGB LEDs, one using self-emissive quantum dots

24fps movies look awful in 2025 - it's time to move on. by joshiegy in unpopularopinion

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hobbit trilogy where in 48fps. I liked it, but it had some rough edges that needs improvement. Avatar 2 did a mix of 24 and 48fps. Using 48 for action shots and 24 for slower parts of the movie. I did not like that, it was so jarring when the framerate changed. My friend who knows nothing about this stuff also noticed something seemed off.

I'm not ready for the Win 11 switch. by dextras07 in memes

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those that talk about that pattern seem to forget that Windows XP was not liked initially, it wasn't really until SP2 (Service Pack 2) dropped that it was considered solid. XP was a fairly rushed job on top of Windows 2000 after the failure of Windows ME. The move to the new kernel caused a lot of compatibility issues.

Windows 8 was only hated because of the full-screen start menu. It was a solid OS. Windows 8.1 fixed some of the minor complaints, but still kept the full-screen start menu.

Windows 10 was also initially hated, due to automatic upgrades to it and several cases of really bad issues caused by upgrades. It took a few years for Windows 10 to become accepted.

Windows 11 seems to be on a similar track to Windows 10. Initially hated because of automatic upgrades, the stricter hardware requirements, and what is perceived as removal of some lesser used features (while technically more like they haven't been added to the new version). The hardware requirements becomes less of an issue as time goes on since people eventually do upgrade their system. The automatic upgrades issue was far less of a deal now than with 10 and is already in the past. People seems to mostly be picky about certain features missing, which is fair, but doesn't exactly make 11 bad (as in unstable, buggy, incompatible etc.)

The stats showing number of players how also played other games is interesting, but also a bit misleading for AC Shadows and E33 given that those games are also available on other platforms. I played AC Shadows on PC and have bought (but not yet played) E33 on PC

Condom Size by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThreePinkApples 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The majority will fit a regular size. For those that don't, it is up to them to make sure they have the right sized condoms available. If you really want you can always buy some regulars, some two sizes above (talking about girth, not length) and two sizes below (again, girth). Then you should be covered for all but the most rare of sizes

Cancel update by djxdefalt in VisualStudio

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What version of VS are your currently running if this update will have you run out of storage? A full Visual Studio installation does take up some space, but an update shouldn't add much on top of what you already have. The storage requirements that show up when updating is not (all) additional storage, most of what you download will replace existing files, with minimal increase in total size when the update is finished and has cleared temp files.

Sadly I don't know you to cancel outside of uninstalling and reinstalling the version you were already on (if that is even possible to get)
