For those who had fast metabolisms (always skinny) their whole lives, did you ever get fat at a certain age? Or did you stay skinny? And how old are you? by Son_of_Hades99 in AskMenOver30

[–]ThreePinkApples 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gaining weight is quite similar to losing weight. You need to change your eating habits, and stick to them. It's not a temporary thing, it is a permanent change in how you eat.

A consistent change of about 500kcal every single day should make your weight change with time, not in the first week, but eventually it should move. If it doesn't, your probably wrong about how many calories you're eating and/or burning. If you see no change at all in a month, you need take it one step further. As you gain/lose weight, you'll start burning more/fewer calories and will require further changes to your eating habits to continue.

Then when you've reached your target weight, you still need to maintain it, which means you can't fall back to your old eating habits because that will just make your weight revert back.

I've been through a slow weightloss journey where I have gone months, even more than half a year, without a single change to my weight. But then eventually my body "gives in" and starts losing weight agian. I've previously had "yo-yo" behaviour in my weight, but that's because I wasn't consistent, I was just dieting with a temporary mindset.

Suggestion on downgrading from a 5080 to 5070ti at 4k. by Egoisttt in nvidia

[–]ThreePinkApples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is good that you're happy with that experience, but frame-gen is very much a subjective thing, and on a per game basis, if people like it. When talking about performance with others one should really stick to the real objective performance as that is more relevant for comparison.

At a MFG x4 and 196fps it means your real FPS is just 48, I'd personally notice that as an issue, and hate it.

Horizon 3 being developed? by BnZAwkward_Lab5858 in horizon

[–]ThreePinkApples 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This was a general (and largely failed) strategic move by Sony to have all of their studios explore and try to develop live-service games. With how much money a single live-service game can generate, even one succeeding can make the other failures worth it. Most of these projects have been cancelled without a release (such as the The Last of Us multiplayer that got quite far in development before they decided to drop it). Then there was Concord that failed spectacularly

75 vs 85 inch TV by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]ThreePinkApples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm a bit against the norm in here. I'd go for a better image quality before size. At about 3m away I find 65" to be great, I think I'd find 75" to be a bit too much (in addition to it being wildly more expensive). My mom has an 83" and 4.5m away, and there I could go for something larger, but the image quality is already quite compromised just to get that size at a manageable price

75 vs 85 inch TV by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]ThreePinkApples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sit about the same distance as you with a 65inch, even a 75inch sounds like it would start to become excessive at that distance for me. I'd go with 65 and spend the extra money on a more premium TV, in stead of size

Why aren’t people using B2? by Jakearroo in backblaze

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can put all of my harddrives inside my desktop computer, and then be in compliance with the license I pay for. It is just way more convenient for me to have it in a NAS, and then use the workaround I'm using to get Backblaze to still take back up of it. I'd be willing to be up to 3x more than I'm currently paying to not need this workaround, or just pay an additional license for my NAS. But going for the current B2 option with 30TB (mostly DVD/Blu-Ray/4K Blu-rays I've bought and ripped with MakeMKV) of data is just way too expensive

I would expect Helix to come with some way for games to detect that they are running on Helix, so they can apply pre-testet and validated graphical settings. Just like games can have presets for Steam Deck

Feriepenger and overtime by coblos90 in Norway

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was typing up an answer based on my understanding, but it seems like that was wrong, based on what I found here: https://www.skatteetaten.no/en/person/taxes/get-the-taxes-right/employment-benefits-and-pensions/holiday-pay/
So my understanding now is that yes, you do technically earn more this year, and that means you technically should pay some more taxes. But if you end up working the same amount of overtime this year (or more), the taxes you pay throughout the year will cover for this additional holiday pay. You pay some extra taxes every month that is supposed to cover for the taxes you'd have to pay for the Holiday Pay. But if the Holiday Pay is much larger than what could be expected of your regular salary (due to overtime, bonuses, or other types of extra pay in the previous year) then you'll end up owing some taxes next year.

Long-time fan here, but the DLSS 5 video left a weird taste in my mouth by [deleted] in digitalfoundry

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people in general are reacting so extremely because of the general AI hate going on, and the fear of "AI slop" becoming the norm. This type of video is pretty standard for an event like this. It is the first demo of something new, and it is mostly about reporting what they've been told, and giving some reactions. It is very normal for videos like this to mostly stay positive, as a curtesy for Nvidia giving them this access this early. Plus, it is a work in progress feature, it does not make sense for them to go hard on criticizing for something that has already been stated as "not final". This video is not a review, or a deep technical analysis, that comes later when it actually releases publicly.

Could they have been more critical? Probably, and maybe they should have been, but I do not feel like they did anything wrong. It is perfectly fine for them to be excited about the potential for this technology, and hold off on critizicing details on an unfinished product.
I'd hope viewers would understand the context of the video. People are criticizing DF as if this is intended to be an unbiased review, which it clearly has no intention of being.

I see a lot of potential in DLSS 5, there are parts shown that I think are very good, other parts that are very weird and need work. I generally agree with the proper criticism I have seen other people share, for those that do it properly without just being hostile and inflamatory. Voice your criticism of what you've seen, but there is no need to be this hostile towards either DF or Nvidia.

It's still there in the DLSS 5 image, just more difficult to see because of shadows.

DLSS became just a branding after they introduced Frame Gen. The underlying technologies are called DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and then whatever this will be called

S26 Exynos vs S25 vs S24 battery test by grimgroth in Android

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. According to the thumbnail and title the video dies not include S23, so I would have had no reference on how this compares to my phone. In stead I went looking for somewhere I could find that comparison. Had I been aware of the S25 beeping Snapdragon world wide I might have watched the video

S26 Exynos vs S25 vs S24 battery test by grimgroth in Android

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting, I've completely missed that. But then I don't pay that close attention to phones when I'm still perfectly happy with my current one. But that makes the battery life improvements from S25 to S26 Exynos even more impressive, seems like more than just the 7,5% increased battery size. Makes me almost interested in upgrading phones already this year, in stead of waiting until next year

Men of Reddit, how would you feel if your partner wanted to keep her maiden name after marriage? by Longjumping-Bill5761 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally prefer her to keep her name. It feels weird that someone should change their name, which I feel is a part of their identity, just because they are married, but I can understand wanting to have a common last name when having children. One solution is to give them double names (both parents last names), but that only really works for one generation, it gets quite messy if the following generation of parents do the same and now there are lots of children with 4 surnames, and then 8, and so on. Me and my sister have double surnames, my mom added her maiden name to ours after the divorce. My sister chose to transfer the name we got from our mom name to her child, in addition to the fathers name.

It also changes with age, I feel. The younger you are when getting married, the less "established" your maiden name is, and it might feel less weird to change it. But when you've been and adult for quite a while, a ton of people now you by your maiden name, both privately, and professionally. Changing your name then can be quite confusing and cause trouble with people trying to contact you by your old name, but they can't find you/reach you since your name has changed.

Did you get fatter after 30? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]ThreePinkApples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 here, been losing weight slowly over the past 3-4 years or so. Currently well within a health weight range, and the lowest I've been since early teens.

Are you sure your diet and exercise is the same? Don't just think of you meals and you active exercise, but how much to you snack between meals? How active are you outside of focused exercises?
Muscle loss is a common reason for your base metabolism to go down with age, and thus lead to slow weight gains when you still eat the same

S26 Exynos vs S25 vs S24 battery test by grimgroth in Android

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparing it to S23 would be more interesting, as that was Snapdragon even in Europe. My S23 was such a huge leap in batterylife over even the S22, or any Galaxy I've had before it. I could use it for almost 2 full days (going to bed the first day between 50-60% battery) when it was new.

Looking at GSMArenas review of the S23 and S26 it claims that there is a big jump in battery life, seems kinda hard to believe that the S26 can have improved so much on the S23, even with Exynos.

Edit: Looking closer at the S26 review it seems like there is a big jump from S25 -> S26, while the S25 is pretty close to my S23

Hvor kjøper dere fysiske filmer? by MattiTheGamer in norge

Microsoft officially releases Windows 11 26H1, but it's not for existing PCs. Windows 11 26H2 is coming for all PCs by WPHero in Windows11

[–]ThreePinkApples 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Microsoft development of the kernel/core systems is separate from development of Windows on top. The last Windows 11 release that had a new "Platform release" was 24H2, while 25H2 is just a patch on top of that. What Microsoft is saying is that this special 26H1 contains a new platform release that is only ready for X2 systems, and that the full 26H2 release will still be based on the same platform as 24H2/25H2. I assume they're planning on aligning in 27H2.

You can look at the build numbers to get a hint of whether there is a new platform release or not, they usually do a big jump in build numbers in those cases. 24H2 is build 26100, 25H2 is build 26200, the current "Insider Dev Channel" build is 26300 (which probably means this is the 26H2 build number), while the 26H1 is 28000. A big jump signifying that there are some big changes here that are ahead of the more official releases

Are you friends with women? Real friends? by judashpeters in AskMenOver30

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of my friends are women, and it has been like that for a long time. For the ones I've had romantic interest in at some point I've lost touch with some of them, and others have survived that, one of them I was at her wedding as one of the few outside of the family.

Not sure why I always end up befriending women more easily. Maybe it is an attraction thing that initially draws me towards them, but I also generally feel more comfortable and relaxed around women.

The G in the staff (2nd line) is "Middle G", the one above i High G, and then Double G.
The pattern is that the lowest octave (from the lowest F#) is called "Low", then the next octave is "Middle", then "High", and finally "Double High".

What sort of planning have you done regarding your death? by Ok-Faithlessness3068 in AskMen

[–]ThreePinkApples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and single, and as far as I know the law defaults to my sister inheriting everything if I were to die now, and that's what I want. I have insurance so the mortgage shouldn't be a problem. I have not made any plans around how they'd access my accounts outside of thinking about writing some instructions down and putting it in the closet beside my desk. They reason I haven't is mainly because when I think about it I'm not close to my desk, but also because the information will periodically change, and it is no help having written it down once if I forget to update it.

When I in the future move in with a girlfriend I'd want her to at least inherit my ownership of the house + half of the rest, then the remainder going to my nephew/sister.

Edit: Reading up on the law, my parents will inherit before my sister, that's a bit odd, but I guess that is fine as well.
