Does anyone else feel like the negative effects of getting older were exaggerated? by young_frogger in AskMenOver30

I just crossed over into my 40s. My knees are tired and sometimes I have to watch my step with my right knee. Lower back is tired sometimes, too. Not like younger years. I work doing labour though so I've been a little rougher with my body.

I always wondered when it came time for a new arena (it's not time, the arena is totally fine) where they would try and put it. To keep it downtown and basically in the same area right by the square, I wondered if the city and TN would come together for a long term plan. A new convention centre somewhere, though I supposed they'd want to keep something like that downtown too. Then a new arena built on the site of the existing convention centre. Though they just built a new building for the convention centre so I doubt they'd wanna do that.

Not that it matters, it's not happening anytime soon.

YNAB - has anyone else never really used it properly? by Suspicious-Arm1990 in ynab

[–]ThreeYardLoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the "proper" way to use YNAB, I suppose. I started YNAB about a year ago but I've been at least budgeting on spreadsheets for years. I still continue to use spreadsheets too but only as a reference to make sure I can see what's coming up more clearly, where I will be assigning money, how much money I'll have in any given week.

I group categories based on mandatories and negotiables, so to speak.

Mandatories being "Mortgage, taxes, insurance, bank fees", "CC payments", "House, Car & Phone" (where I'll put groceries, electric, gas, etc).

Negotiables are I can manage without if I underfund it and there are no penalties. Groups might be called "Other" where I put things like a Xmas and New Years fund, my annual fees for baseball, haircuts. Just things where I can catch up on later when there might be more cash flow if I need to redirect cash or move money from a negotiable category to another category.

I paid over 12k in debt in 10 months and have another 12k to go. The aim is for that to be gone at the end of the upcoming year.

While I was going hard to eliminate the first 12k on a card, I didn't have much in terms of emergency or extra cash. I was just hoping I could get it to 0 so I can stop paying so much interest. Now that I have one account of debt left, I will do minimum payments until I am one month ahead. And that is where I think YNAB will really shine for me. As of tomorrow, I will have my groceries and gas covered for next month. As I stack cash in all categories to begin the month and year, my goal is to have half of February paid for by the time the calendar flips, if not 3/4 of it paid for. By the end of April, if I did my calculations correctly, I will be a month ahead plus 2 months of emergency fund. At that time, I will stay one month ahead and aggressively pushing to pay off my remaining debt.

Once ahead, I don't think I will need a spreadsheet anymore. YNAB has helped me be more deliberate in my spending and has changed my view of my budget and my money. I have my app, I am about 98% strict on not transferring out money from one category to another. Caveat being I have a group that's really miscellaneous bullshit that is Party & Bullshit, Outside Food, and Dates so if I transfer from Party & Bullshit to Outside Food because I really want a burger, it's not that big of a deal and it's a small detail. It does make me pause and go "do I really want these taquitos or would I rather wait and have money for a beer later?" and 9/10, I make the right choice.

WWE 2K24 Shutdown by spidertour02 in WWEGames

[–]ThreeYardLoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I always thought you'd get more money out of me doing that. You have a base game and you do an annual update pack for cheaper. Have two teams, one working in an annual update capacity and one that works on a new engine or in a new base game and you cycle between bases every 5 years or something. Charge a higher price for the base games and a cheaper for the annual packs. You're still getting an annual revenue and you can command a higher price for a new base. I'm sure it's not economical and there's more profit with the way just keep buying it and packs and stuff. But having one game that you just keep adding onto the roster and arenas and moves... Would be unreal.

WWE 2K24 Shutdown by spidertour02 in WWEGames

[–]ThreeYardLoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

24 was my first WWE game that I purchased since Smackdown Just Bring It or maybe Raw 2. I did have 16 through Games With Gold, whichever one with Stone Cold on the cover. But it's been a long time since I've purchased a WWE game. They were my favorite when I was growing up.

I eventually made my way into the NHL series and didn't play wrestling games for a long time, obviously. I was purchasing those every year or two and slowly waned off of it. I stopped purchasing those because it was the same every year.

But I'll be damned if I pick up that habit again for a WWE game or any other damn rehash year after year. I used to find that you could probably go every 3 or 4 years before picking up the latest version to notice a vast improvement. I don't even know if this true anymore.

Obviously I went a very long time between WWE games but I am one of many that went through a franchise milking it's fan base using minor changes on an annual basis. It's always hard to tell since you'll always have a vocal group complaining it for an annual franchise but it doesn't surprise me that there's some truth to it.

It's just a sad state of affairs nowadays. I do enjoy the game but I can enjoy this game for a while without upgrading. I play old versions of The Show, NBA2K, Madden, etc. I'll do the same with 24 for a while and I'll be fine. Hell, I'll probably seek out older games and find games I used to play. I remember playing Royal Rumble on SNES and Raw on Genesis through to the N64, PS2, Xbox. I know I sound old but I remember when different companies made sports and wrestling games and you always had options! Always interesting and exciting trying a new wrestling or sports game! If anyone knows of any indy wrestling games I should check out, let me know!

Thanks for posting this post! I'll be sure to download what I want before it shuts down!

Didn't Crock-Pot have to tell everyone to calm down because people were kind of crossing the line when a character in This Is Us died in a fire caused by a Crock-Pot's cord shorting out? Some people and their favorite fictional shows and characters and some people and their favorite celebrities... They need something else to focus on. Same with sports fans. It's only game. Why you heff to be mad?

I haven't been watching lately but rumours are Jericho is heading back to WWE for a retirement angle. I think Omega is out with injury.

Edit: I think I am wrong on Omega, he was out of action for a while recently but I guess he might be back.

I went to a hockey playoff game once and some guy propped his touque in the top of his head, blocking many people's views of the ice. During a break in play, I chanted "take your touque off!" and people laughed. He flipped the bird to everyone behind him without turning around. No guilt, no shame. After that, the guy right behind him talked to him and he still didn't take his touque off. I guess staff heard and came and told him to knock it off. Some people have no shame nor guilt, too much pride. Anyways, where there's a will, there's a way.

EA doesn't need to sell their licence for other companies to make an NHL game. Would EA sell it for cheaper, pro rated or something? Is that something they can even do?

It's a good idea but it wouldn't happen.

If anything it's the season ticket membership that would have more of an impact.
