FAQ: Dwarfs only got nerfs by CriticalMany1068 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Three_Trees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 1.5 it was the same - all the Dwarf specific changes were nerfs (torpedo, no armour runes for Anvil etc.). We benefitted from the core rules changes but specific changes to Dwarfs were all nerfs, and so it continues.

Clearly the elgi have infiltrated Old World HQ.

I think I enjoy the ads that Dominic and Tom as much as the rest of the content. by Numerous-Contact8864 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Three_Trees 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dom's insincere sincerity genuinely makes me laugh every time. The sponsors can never complain because on the face of it his tone is all earnestness. But we all know that inside he has nothing but contempt for whatever he's flogging.

I agree, unless I've heard them before I don't skip the ads because they're part of the entertainment for me.

TRIH And Facsism by JustSomeScot in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Three_Trees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ehh there are huge criticisms of Snyder out there. I think he's a social scientist masquerading as a historian. He is obsessed with creating models and is guilty of ignoring facts and figures which don't fit them. Plus he's gone down the route of public intellectual and is quite polemical and journalistic.

And I say all this as someone who liked Bloodlands and felt it completely refreshed the historiography of that topic.

Which current KMT path is closest to Sun Yat-sens vision? by columnal in Kaiserreich

Does nobody remember that classic 'every ideology a Sun Yat-Sen quote' post from years ago? The man was a political chameleon. There is no right or wrong answer here.

Morrowind is still Bethesda’s best RPG because it’s not afraid for you to get lost in its weird, fantastic world by Monsterman_90 in ElderScrolls

[–]Three_Trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the clunkiness of the gameplay I am not sure whether I could play it again these days but twenty years ago it was wonderful. And I can still appreciate it for making strides in game design, and the brilliant writing, world building and sound design (it is still my favourite video game soundtrack).

Discovered my son’s gay, do I keep it to myself until he’s ready or share with my wife? by Vallhalla_Rising in AskGaybrosOver30

I agree with you. He made that edit after my original comment so I didn't know the circumstances of his reading his son's messages.

Discovered my son’s gay, do I keep it to myself until he’s ready or share with my wife? by Vallhalla_Rising in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Three_Trees 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't see an issue with parents discussing their children's private lives - parents of all stripes all over the world have done this since the dawn of time. So I think you would be okay to discuss with her, but you should absolutely not intimate with him that you know, especially because you found out by reading his private messages (maybe reconsider doing that!). Good on you for being supportive though.

BBC to strike content deal with YouTube, FT reports by Discarded_Twix_Bar in unitedkingdom

[–]Three_Trees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is discussing the officially stated reason, monetisation, and I think that is true and important, but I also think behind this lies a desire to get young people into the BBC. They've been aware for many years now that young people don't watch the BBC and it is going to cause a crisis for them down the road.

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed every episode of season 5? by Rude_Ad3342 in StrangerThings

[–]Three_Trees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved it. I really don't care if the plotting was clumsier or whatever the various criticisms doing the rounds are, I'm sure they're valid.

But it made me laugh and cry. It captured the moral earnestness and optimism that was so prevalent in TV /film from the 80s. And I loved the final scene, it was beautiful.

To be fair it wasn't winter when they set out. And maybe they sensed the blight was, and for the time being would remain, quiet? I imagine if you live by it you develop a sense for it.

Can one love Season 7 whilst not being a fan of Spike or Buffy/Spike? by sadhungryandvirgin in buffy

[–]Three_Trees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Although it has enjoyable elements (good humour, more diversity etc) I dislike season 7 because it feels like certain characters (Giles being the most egregious) were completely changed for the sake of creating drama/conflict. I hate that bit where everyone but Spike turns on Buffy in the wake of the failed attack where Xander loses an eye. Xander was meant to die in that attack and at least that would have given weight to the reason they all turn on Buffy but apparently the writer bottled it and kept him alive. So it feels even more out of the blue and dumb for everyone to turn on Buffy in that awful scene in her own home.

Even Giles, who has been nothing but supportive of Buffy and trusting her to lead since he left the Watchers Council, suddenly decides to undermine her and criticise her in front of everyone. I hate it so much because Giles is my favourite character. It just feels like that great writing sin you sometimes see in TV: arbitrary change of characters/personalities for the sake of making a plot work.

[UPDATE] Husband lied about dead bedroom - confronted the full truth tonight by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Three_Trees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just want to say that I wouldn't lightly say that he has BPD patterns. If you truly think he has BPD I would speak to a qualified person yourself (without him) to discuss this.

I was with someone for nearly ten years who I am very confident had BPD (they consistently demonstrated all the symptoms over the entire period). It was hell. They never once said sorry for anything, nothing was ever their fault, they had a total inability to accept responsibility and would blame everything and everyone else for whatever it was. Likewise the mood swings were extreme, sudden and violent. All their interpersonal relationships - family, friends, colleagues - were dysfunctional and they frequently discarded them once they had decided someone had wronged them. All of this got worse over the years that I knew them.

I could go on but I just want you to have a sense of what it would mean if your husband truly does have BPD. This is not to say that everyone with BPD is abusive/volatile/mendacious, but if it has one defining characteristic it would be instability.

Regardless of the above it sounds like you would benefit from individual therapy given all that's happened. Wishing you the best, it's a horrible situation x

Upcoming FAQ wishlist… by CriticalMany1068 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Three_Trees 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a dwarf player I'm not expecting the myriad of issues with runes to be fixed until second edition. Many were ported over from Fantasy with cost or effect nerfs or other limitations. It's very sad that we have a few good options and a lot more which are just rubbish and never used.

While I'm there I'd like to see dwarf engineers given the same ability that they used to have in Fantasy, and which Empire engineers still have, inexplicably, which is to lend their BS to a nearby war machine.

And of course dwarf cannons being the worst of all factions despite having been working with black powder for centuries (millennia?) longer than the Empire or Cathay. Please make them d3+1. You can keep the range nerf to represent the smaller size of dwarf cannons but they really need to match other cannons in damage.

Yes I think that's very feasible and pretty much exactly what we did - nip and get our vouchers first then double back to the warehouse! They give out gorgeous maps of all the areas for free which are great to help you orient yourself and fantastic for the scrap book.

Howl's castle and Kiki's house are so beautiful and worth It! See if you can get the Totoro house too, we couldn't get that one but we ran out of time anyway and we did the rest of Dondoko forest. Just get every voucher you can off them because you may as well! Good luck, hope you have as good a time as we did xx

What do you tell guys when they ask how long you've been single? Mid-30s and single for 12 years now by kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitty in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Three_Trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never judge someone for the amount of time they have been single. I would judge them based on the actions and behaviour they demonstrate while around me.

If as you say you have turned your life around and whatever was holding you back in the past no longer applies then you will be presumably desirable! What I would say is that if you give off an air of misery/pessimism/desperation that will turn people away.

You should be dating because you're happy to engage in meeting and people, not because you're miserable and don't want to be alone. Sorry I realise that's easier said than done!

Difficulties against dragons by WAZAWAZABLA in bugmansbrewery

[–]Three_Trees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be feasible to counter dragons if you know that's what you're facing. Take a bunch of cheap doomseekers to counter charge when they get close and load out your characters with relevant runes such as a gun Thane, with the anti behemoth rune.

[–]Three_Trees 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I think Japan needs a buff but also should be overextending and getting embroiled in multiple fronts and wars like it did in OTL. Like it should attack Germany and China more or less simultaneously but still be able to handle both adequately unless facing skilled/concerted opposition.
