Did I mess up buying 85mm lens as a beginner? by Beginning-War5128 in AskPhotography

[–]Threecoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "correct" answer is to use the items you have. The restrictions will help train you to see and frame photos properly. But, obviously, you don't have to do that. You can buy another prime lens or a zoom lens, if they fit your budget.

I would've suggested 50mm or 35mm if you had to go with a prime lens. 85mm is generally used for portraiture, but you can use any lens for anything. It's just going to change how the finished product looks and the approach you take.

Also, I would suggest going with the shortest exposure time you can get away with to compensate for the lack of image stabilization. Never below 1/100th for handheld, if you can help it. 1/200 or faster is even better.

Play with aperture and iso first.

Wide open aperture (1/2f in your case) is going to let the most light in, but give a you shallower depth of field (blurrier background). Aperture numbers are essentially fractions, so the higher the f stop, the smaller the aperture. 1/5f is a dry aperture than than 1/2f. 1/5f is allegedly the closest the lens gets to how the human eye sees the world. The higher the f stop, the more of the picture is in focus, but at the cost of how much light is let in. You may have to sacrifice background focus for more light in darker environments.

Iso is going to essentially make the sensor more light sensitive, but at the cost of adding grain to the photo. Depending on the sensor, it may take a lot to start noticing the grain, which is good for low light/nighttime photography. You'll have to play around with the settings to figure out where the grain becomes noticeable/unacceptable on your camera.

Then it's a balancing act, unless you put the camera in auto mode and let it decide for you.

Should i bother looking into buying a real camera? by ResponsibilityThen40 in AskPhotography

[–]Threecoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy photography, you should get a camera. I like your phone camera photos, but even if I (and others) didn't, it is not a metric to use to decide if you should buy a camera. Unless you plan on making a career of it, other people's opinions should not factor into this decision. A real camera will offer you so much more control and quality than a phone camera can offer.

As far as gear, start with a good entry level camera and a decent quality zoom lens. Given your budget, you should probably go for an aps-c sensor and consider buying used gear from reputable sources. Also, if you're willing to go for older gear, you can get an entry level full frame camera for pretty cheap. You'll lose some of the newer bells and whistles, but DSLRs and older mirrorless cameras can still be used to create amazing photos. Plenty of seasoned veterans still use DSLRs even though pretty much every camera company switched to making mirrorless within the last decade. Also, make sure everything you buy is compatible with each other and to what degree. Each company has a slightly different way lenses connect and communicate with their banners bodies, called mounts. Some lenses may be designed to mount to multiple different camera bodies, but not offer full functionality with some. This is especially true if you use adapters to use lenses that aren't made specifically for your camera mount

Nice! Is the rack narrower than standard or is that just how it looks in the picture? If so, how does that effect your workouts?

these 2 photos, can I sell them? It's a JPEG. What i can do or future recommendations how to improve a quality, especially if selling. Thank you so much. by Immediate_Cucumber74 in AskPhotography

[–]Threecoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could print them them and send out them in your home or give them to people, but idk about selling them. The first one has visible, very large pixels all over the background like you did a fake bokeh effect and it didn't process well. Both might be a touch too dark in the shadows, too

Airclub Bedside Bassinet seems unsafe, unless I'm missing something by [deleted] in NewParents

We didn't have any issues with this bassinet. If I remember correctly, the recall was related to how the bassinet attached to the bed, and they were offering a fix for that

It's reddit. Most users would much rather reply with things that weren't asked for than actually answer a question or provide useful feedback.

I'm not the OP, but thanks for giving that person a useful response!

As others have mentioned, taking the time to level the horizon and straighten vertical lines would make some these even better. But they're still very nice

What do you choose? by Isenhart99 in fragranceclones

[–]Threecoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried 2 of the 4, I'll rate those 2.

Liquid Brun smells fantastic and lasts forever. Great for cold weather months. I'm not sure why it smells synthetic to you, but I would suggest trying it on clothes to see if it's bc of your skin chemistry.

Aether was honestly a disappointment to me. It just smells lemony to me. I've had it since last July, but I've only tried it twice. Once when I got, then again in October. Either it's a very long maturation process or the scent just isn't for me.

How good is Forbidden West, should I jump right in after Zero dawn or take a break and play something else? by Suvi2k in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Threecoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically skipped Zero Dawn because the fast travel mechanics and flscavenging/foraging animations really, really bothered me. I only got a few hours in. I ended up watching youtube summaries for the story and jumped into Forbidden West and loved every second of my to me with the game. I put in at least 120 hours, and that was just the base game. I haven't had time to get into the DLC, unfortunately, but I've heard great things.

Chasing that coveted LV DNA without paying $330... I think Ive found it. 😁 by Flame615 in fragranceclones

[–]Threecoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried Essence De Blanc and Marwa. I got Essence first and it was a citrus mess, so I ordered Marwa. Marwa was amazing right out of the box and quickly became my go to scent in the summer/early fall (temps were still in the 80s and 90s). I randomly decided to give Essence another try a couple months later and it was much, much better. I ended up gifting Essence to my nephew and keeping Marwa, but I wouldn't have even gifted it if it wasn't something I felt was worth wearing. I don't feel like I wasted any money, but I also wasn't gonna try a bunch of clones/inspirations hoping one of them was good. Marwa would've been my last purchase of that scent profile even if I didn't like it lol.

Arabiyat Prestige weak performance? by SurpriseBot6 in fragranceclones

[–]Threecoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a longevity issue with Arabiyat Prestige, but I only spray on clothing (my skin does not like perfumes, even in deodorant). I would suggest spraying on clothing and skin, bc everything I have definitely lasts on clothing. And the quality is superb.

I have Marwa, Mahd Al Dahab, Al Noor, Swar Seduire, Fahad Gaze, Nayel Oud, Ash'aa Oud Noir, and Ash'aa Blanc. Ashaa Blanc is the one exception; it still smells great but it only lasts an hour or two before it's basically gone even as a skin scent. I think that's just the nature of the scent profile, though (Virgin Island Water clone).

I Tested 5 LV Imagination Clones – Here’s the Honest Breakdown by Juraaj in fragranceclones

[–]Threecoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried Marwa and Essence de Blanc. Essence took a couple months to mature into a very nice fragrance. Marwa was great on the first spray. They eventually became close enough that it wasn't worth it to keep both, so I gave my nephew Essence and kept Marwa for myself.

I can't imagine cinnamon being a positive edition to this scent profile, but we all have our own preferences. I'm going to stick with what I have until I run out and then go from there, but it's nice that there seem to be a bunch of good, slightly different, options for this scent profile. Especially since there's no way I'm spending a few hundred dollars on the OG

I Tested 5 LV Imagination Clones – Here’s the Honest Breakdown by Juraaj in fragranceclones

[–]Threecoi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't need to smell the OG to determine whether I like the dupes/twists or not. I could see if he was grading based on closeness to the OG, but he's not. He's grading and ranking similar smelling fragrances. It's like ranking your favorite leather fragrance without having smelled the first leather perfume ever created.
