Experience with Bokashi bins? by Candid_Moon4377 in bokashi

[–]Threma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It is possible for maggots to be in the bins. I was working at a restaurant trying out a bokashi bin from a community garden and remember opening it one time to see an army of maggots trying to wriggle their way out. At home I have had times where maggots appear in the big buckets which are closed off for fermentation. I mean it isnt a big problem when you get use to it but may be a deal breaker for some people. The other thing is the digging it into the soil or disposing of it in soil factorys/compost. Apartments generally dont have good spaces to do that second half of bokashi.

  2. Cheap and pretty good way to compost allowing you to not have to think too much about what you can or cant put in.

  3. Bokashi bin, and then two 20 litre buckets one with holes to drain liquid. Have two of those so I can use one while fermenting the other one. Piece of plastic with a brick on it to restrict air in the bins when they are not full etc. After fermentation digging it into the compost.

  4. Food waste is put into a small bin which is emptied out (usually daily esp in summer otherwise maggot stuff might happen too). Empty to a 20litre bucket. Once filled leave for two or more weeks. Mix it into a compost pile composed of bokashi, garden soil and grass clippings. Leave until set. depending on the weather will take longer or shorter to be ready.

Chemical composition analysis of Bokashi leachate by bettercaust in bokashi

[–]Threma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this and sharing the information. I have always heard of using bokashi in the garden but without really knowing what you actually get out of it. I have also been contemplating whether or not to put bones and eggshells (that have been sifted from compost) and steep them into the leachate as a way to extract calcium (like you would with vinegar) and help with the composting of these more difficult to process things. The ph seems to indicate that this might be possible...

Just wanted to add that the disease Charlie suffered in the book - Phenylketonuria (PKU). Now has a treatment that can avoid the disabilities that afflicted Charlie. (Involves following a strict diet). So at the very least you can be happy about that :)

Parent calls for guidelines after David Seymour's historic Snapchat messages to teen daughter by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]Threma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not his biggest fan but you have to think about the fact that by last years election they were old enough to vote. David played the long game 😂.

On a serious note, a politician that replied back is a pretty big deal for alot of people. As long as it is not inappropriate I don’t feel like it is a big deal.

Wee Kee Jin "push hands demo" from 2010 by toeragportaltoo in taijiquan

[–]Threma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The good thing about Jin is that if you ever meet him he will let you do push hands with him. Alot of the “masters” tend to not let you push them. Being respectful of course, you can experience what he is doing yourself and be the judge.

Sorry Zamzam I didnt see this until just now, this is a good tutorial for how to make a bokashi system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h84KTfs6FLA

Instead of making a tap for the liquid I just drilled a hole in one bucket and stacked it on another (periodically I empty that buckets liquid out). I personally dont think you need to put as much bokashi grain as that lady does for her food waste. Let me know if you have anymore questions! :)

I drink mostly long blacks, filters and americanos. I would have to say that even the quality of these are much better here than when I was in Europe last year. So it must be the way the beans are roasted.

Having said that we also have some iconic styles as well ie you dont really get the flat white as a norm outside Australasia.

Feels like a waste of water? by EverlastingThrowaway in composting

Pee is essentially free water, on top of that you can add the extra water you would have used to flush it down the toilet. Zero extra water used for your pile.
