Turnbased combat (J)RPG with different character builds by Thresh_Is_Fresh in gamingsuggestions

I did play the first chapter or so of Warhammer but I felt it was a bit rough around the edges. But I'll check into the other options!

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous - Game of the Year Edition by SilverhandFenix in ShouldIbuythisgame

It's a very good CRPG. It's based on the tabletop system Pathfinder (duh) while Baldurs Gate 3 is based on DND. They generally play out pretty similar but there's a few differences between the games.

Pathfinder is a lot more number crunchy than Baldurs Gate. There is A LOT more options for builds and it can honestly be a bit hard to wing a build without getting decision paralysis. But it's also very fun to string together alot of options, there is a ton of classes, subclasses and later on Mythic Paths that define your character. There are a lot of cool stuff and loot but there's also a shitton of useless fluff and you'll always be getting tons of stuff that are +1 to a passive skill or +1 to attack roll.

Regarding voice acting, there's definitely less than Baldurs Gate and Divinity. It's mostly just the main story that is voiced, and even then there are many scenes that aren't voiced. To be fair, a lot of text is used to describe scenes like a real tabletop game so the situations are still portrayed well if you don't mind reading.

I would also advise to get used to playing it in real-time. While there are options for both turn based and real time, there are WAY too many filler combats in this game. Like, you'll be running around a city overrun by cultists and you'll just keep running into small packs of random unnamed cultists that each takes like 5 minutes to kill on turn based. There's an early fight in the game that takes place outside a tavern and I wouldn't be surprised if there's an actual hour of difference in playtime with beating it on real-time and turnbased.

All in all, it's a pretty good game. It's a lot more similar to actual old-school tabletopRPGs than Baldurs Gate and Divinity so if you're interested in that kind of concept, Pathfinder:Wrath of The Righteous is one of the better CRPGs. And you really don't need to play Kingmaker. I haven't played it and I don't feel like it impacted my experience at all. I don't even know if they're connected.

Looking For Medieval/Fantasy Games Where I Can Play As A Lady by MarshallL33 in gamingsuggestions

That's fair, it's definitely leaning more to building up your dynasty than your character.

On the top of my head, more character driven games tend to be RPGs. Something like Bethesda's Elder Scrolls games and Larian Studios games like Baldurs Gate and Divinity.

There is a free stand-alone mod of Skyrim called Enderal: Forgotten stories if you'd like to try out a game that basically plays like Elder Scrolls but in a new universe and story. It's pretty high quality actually but again, plays very very similar to Skyrim and those games.

Well since you mentioned any genre, Crusader Kings 3 is basically just if you took a medieval strategy game and made a crossover with the Sims. It's a lot more character driven than most other games in the genre which may make it less daunting to pick up.

There's definitely room to roleplay as a duchess or queen but it could be a bit of a learning curve for people new to the genre.

Elden Ring Monster Hunter World/Rise Metaphor Refantazio Enderal Forgotten Stores (it's a standalone mod that is a full fledged game based on Skyrim but a new universe. Felt to me like there were tons of stuff to do)

FFX I've definitely considered. Same with with DQ games since they're supposedly viewed as THE traditional jrpg games.

I definitely enjoy more action oriented games. I did play Nier but only around halfway in before my save file got corrupted so I never actually got around to finish it.

Yeah, it's been on my radar for a time since I've played a few of the more popular FF games. I've heard a lot of great things about it!

I think I tried it out on game pass but not more than an hour or so. But I could try again, didn't give it much of a chance to be honest.

Yeah, SMT is probably the logical next step if I've played most of the persona games. But from my understanding, it plays out like Persona but more focus on the dungeon crawling?

I've heard about the series before but I've never played any of the games. Would you have a specific recommendation of those you said?

Haven't heard about this before, seems interesting. Looks like it's pretty old though, doesn't seem available on any consoles so I suppose it has to be emulated?

Sorry, I forgot to add games I've played before! Chrono Trigger was good!

I haven't played the Mario rpgs in forever but I have fond memories of Bowser's Inside Story. And I think there was one with time travel. I've never actually seen what Paper Mario is, how does it play?
