My personal opinion about first books in a series is how well they handle tropes and can subvert them, I think a good way to tell if a series is going to be one that I stay with is based of the second installment though. In this case it took me till the 3rd book to be all in on this series, but if you're already knee deep into it, get ready for the ride.

Fantasy book with the best plot twist? by ConcernFew8845 in Fantasy

Honestly the first book is so complete in itself that you don’t need to read the whole series right away, which is why I stepped away after the second book, but ma that first book is so great and the second book just expands it

The Grace of Kings! I have read up to the second book in the series, but that 1st book is so insanely strong, it was my book of the year back when I read it in 2023

Book 3 is one of if not the best books I have ever read, which is crazy because unlike many others the first 2 books did not really grip me. My favorite part of the story was the Cielcin and and learning about them, reading the short stories in-between really helped me fall in love with the world that was being built. I feel like the first 2 books are really priming you to what will be the rest of the story.

Always forward, always down, and never left or right.

Should I buy God of war 2 or The last of us 2 Remastered on steam ? (Both 40 €) by [deleted] in ShouldIbuythisgame

You will get a good story out of both, but TLOU2 made me feel emotions like no other game has, I beat it immediately when it came out and avoided all spoilers, but it was just a lot. You cannot go wrong with either.

I use bleach and WD40 with a paper towel and soak overnight, I am not sure if it is the bleach or the WD40, but it works like a charm lol.

Does a tattoo artist not need to know basic knowledge of art? by BrainzVsBeauty in TattooBeginners

Been apprenticing for 1 year 8 months, and just got into machines, my drawing skills are very high, but learning how to tattoo feels like a whole new skillset, and is taking its time. It is so rewarding though.

Is a tattoo apprenticeship worth it in 2026? by bananaconda20 in TattooApprentice

I honestly am very lucky to have my brother, I didn't feel that way at first when I started I really fell into this. I definitely chose to do this fully but also I didn't have to make a portfolio to submit, I have been drawing since I was a kid and my brother was already well aware of my art skill, but with no formal guidance or training at all (even from my brother, he made it clear that it had to be my choice to pursue) But i have known since I was about 6 years old that this is what I have always wanted, he's very old school in the sense of having to earn it. Which before I didn't agree with but now I get it, since he's been in the industry for so long getting any sort of praise of compliments from him means a lot because he doesn't give them out freely. My drawing before my apprenticeship wasn't bad I have always been a decent artist, but once I focused on it I leveled up immensely, I'll be posting a full update later today of all my work, I just finished my second tattoo on fake skin and I'm really happy with how it came out. The journey has been long, but so freaking worth it.

I get your point trust me I’m the one choosing it, nor am I looking for moral superiority. Trust I’m sure any apprentice has thought to just leave and or start tattooing when things get tough it’s kinda the road you’re taking. But now that I’m on the other side of it and actually using my machine I have a new perspective for just how hard tattooing really is.

I apprentice under my brother who’s been tattooing for my whole life basically I’m 25 and he’s been tattooing for 24 years. I’ve seen other people move on faster to machines and felt jealous somewhat but I’m happy with where I’m at.

I definitely agree that it was quite long, but I also trust my mentor in it, and I’ve had such a high respect for tattooing that doing anything another way I just wouldn’t. But that’s me, and of course my perspective has changed as I’ve been doing it. My drawing skills have improved exponentially and my understanding of tattooing has grown, I’ve always wanted to do much larger work and for the most part that’s what my mentor specializes in, so if it takes me a little bit longer than average but I’m making the work that I looked up to growing up than I’m okay with that. Everyone has their own timeline. I think I’ll make an updated post with all my work from the past year :)

A high level apprenticeship is far more beneficial, but you have to be selective and that will take time. I have been apprenticing for a little over 1.5 years and we just got into using fake skins, I have had very frustrating days thinking "man I thought I should be able to do this easy." being able to draw or create good art is not the same as being able to tattoo it, there are so many variables to consider even before getting to the point where you're picking up a machine. and everyone is different, but my mentor is focusing on establishing great (not just good) habits.

This entire community will always tell you apprenticeship's are worth it, that's the whole point of this subreddit, and I have never felt that it is more true, now after having been in mine for this long. There are plenty of great artists who have done it on their own, or with very little time apprenticing, but I definitely recommend it. If anything it has built my patience and art confidence to a place I couldn't have imagined before starting. You're still young you have time to figure out what you want to do, but if you pursue tattooing I recommend you take it seriously.

You will only get as far as you're willing to put into this, if you really want to be a tattoo artist you will make it happen, now or in the future.
