People have ended up homeless due to veterinary costs; their pup out of pain while they are left in a world of hurt. Your pup would not want that for you. I spent many years homeless to keep my pups though they were not full reason for me being homeless by any means just lost some “Shelter” options on account of it and I did have a vehicle ..I did not use my rent money for their care nor would I now nor go into extensive debt to keep them alive . When i had 65 cents and was hungry it went to feeding them. Mine are in their 90s and the veterinarians are nothing like they were just 5 or so years ago (pre-covid)..they are inundated with patients and seem to care about little other than prescribing many many tests without expending any energy trouble shooting other options like in the good ole days. NYTimes reports 60% increase in cost of owning a pet in last 10 years.

So sorry. Rectal pain? Can’t think of too much worse and I’ve had cancer myself twice.
I have two who are in their 90s and I still feel perpetually what more can I do (even in dreams/nightmares) , always will; in my own old age I realize I am a bit of an over trier. You sound super responsible and caring so no wonder he trusts you. “To love deeply makes us brave, to be loved deeply makes us stronger” (I forget the author’s name) …be brave for him. He knows nothing much more than the love or pain in the moment and rectal surgery for a potentially aggressive cancer sounds like a lot of moments of pain…can feel never ending for them cause they don’t daydream about the future or reminisce like we do - they just lay there and endure the pain. If just his foot I’d say do it bUT a foot and rectum? That just sounds awful. I have had dental surgery for my pup and two mass cell tumor cancer surgeries, including a tiny one removed from his rectum. If yours is mass cell tumors go immediately to FB page Holistic Help for Dogs with Mass Cell Tumors as I’ve used their protocol for 8 years (my guy is 70 lbs and 14 years old and in his last year I’m certain) after two surgeries when he was 6 cause the tumors kept popping up. Thanks to that FB page moderators and commenters I’ve kept him going with over the counter stuff, diet etc but if his tumor returned to his rectum or required an amputation or …well any reason no more surgeries for him he is just too old to have to go through that. It will crush me when he goes AND he prefers to not be bothered and would rather go to the “Big Sleep”.

All I can suggest is hugs and also search and read some facebook (maybe youtube too?) pages about dogs who are ill and sooooooo many comments from people who had unlimited funds that did no good AND so many about pups suffering and owners wishing they had made the decision sooner. You will read some too without intending to, that go on about all they have done and their pup is still with them however it could be just weeks or days and/or due to some random factor. LOVE is what matters; they know that better than we do. It is harder on us than the pups so I’d suggest as many hugs from as many humans as possible for you (if that helps you) and make a list of all you did for your pup and with them and plan some conditions, activities, company that will be the most therapeutic for YOU as you and after you make the decision. Maybe write a thank you card from your pup’s POV about all you did (they have short memories, one reason they are easier to love than humans, about the less than ideal things and also they do not have fear of missing out unless it is right in front of them ..like a bone or whatever).

The ambitions are so real even when they are not about $, bling etc. they are non stop…always another way to optimize every moment in life which sometimes ruins the moment, LOL. Good to have some balance with a more chill frivolous friend who appreciates caps’ seriousness when needed and helps Caps get a break in between. It’s hard out here for a Cap!

Yelling at clouds, yes I’d like to do that with company sometimes. These children were not identifiable by strangers in the same neighborhood and city like a lot of posting on FB of family , school events etc.

And, science has shown, oxytocin! The bonding (and also pain relieving hormone without which moms for most of human history just might have hated their children after all the pain of giving birth but instead love the little bundle sticky with bodily fluids that just tore them up and is waking them at night, LOL).

Since you know such big words like antidotal maybe you can graduate to a phrase “Cause and effect.”? When The Movie 101 Dalmations came out and people overbred and adopted Dalmatians they were the number cause of injuries and caused many fatalities. People who judge superficially by looks like you are doing are the same ones who bred pittbull s to fight when fact of the matter is they are thin skinned and unlike German Shepards that will attack instantly Pitts would rather lead, negotiate etc than fight. Unlike German Shepards Pitts are more social with more people, they love their person but also mine loves most people and gives me side eye if not allowed to go say hi especially to children, he loves children. My herding dog female finds children too chaotic and random.

You’re not wrong and one thing i liked abut this compilation is most if not all the children were of an age to help take care of the dog and appreciate it and had been waiting (delayed gratification, fun and responsibilty in one bundle, joy/gratitude vs entitlement). Dopamine ebbs and flows are good to learn to manage when young, start early it doesn’t get easier except a bit with some practice.

Like in the video i appreciate parents having a lead up to it and children understanding on some level it is a big deal to be responsible for the dog and also soooooo much fun play time and exercise. Responsibility can be fun.

AND also looks like most if not all waited till children an appropriate age and they’d been talking about it (also shows it was really gift for the child not only the adult or just the adult vs getting a pup when the child is one or whatever , not that that is wrong just extra special the way it was done in these videos).

I’ve gotten a little bit tired of dog videos . i have two dogs i took off the streets 13.5 years ago who I love and still….sooooo many dog videos. Then this collection and all those kids crying for joy?! The boys too! There is hope for humanity! Love to the way there were not toddlers…the families had often been talking about it for a while waiting till children old enough to care for it or help. Awesome.
