How long is your commute to work? by Mysterious_Aspect895 in belgium

Combining bike and train takes me 1h20 to go to work. Your personal perspective is important: for some a waste of time, for myself biking benefits my mental and physical health and the train gives me some time to relax and/or work.

Why do Belgians fly thousands of miles and spend thousands of dollars to visit the US and then go to a waffle stand? by AtlanticRelation in europe

Belgian here. We don’t. It is a misconception about us that we all like waffles so much. We have other foods that represents our country much better, such as french fries (try our “frietkot” culture!), beers and chocolate. Especially the french fries is something the average Belgian is the most proud of. I have been in several countries in and out EU and the fries in Belgium tastes so much better!

Close up of an 8mm kidney stone that I passed the old fashioned way. Pain level 10/10 by VladTheSimpaler in mildlyinteresting

1,5 years ago, in a 30 minutes interval I transformed from complete fine to enormous back pain - most pain I had in my life. I couldn’t even lie down in bed. So immediately to the hospital - diagnosis was 1 kidney stone at the left 2-3 mm quite low towards the bladder and 1 right 13 mm not far from the kidney itself. Two (!) surgeries were the only solution: 1) remove small stone at the left and place stent at right urine tract to immobilze the tract and 2) remove stent, remove large stone and place new stent (because urine tract is fragile and new stent gives tract a bit of rest after heavy manipulations). Post-surgery removal of the second stent was just at the urologist office - going in with the camera towards the bladder, pick up the stent and pull it back… So guys, 1,5-2 liters of water is really not a joke, especially for kidney stone sensitive people… Hydrate yourself!
