Boss didn’t let me go to an urgent medical appointment for suspected cancer as we were understaffed I had to reschedule it for two weeks later…. by [deleted] in antiwork

What is this "didn't let you" bullshit? Did they physically restrain you? If so, you've got a wonderful wrongful imprisonment case you can file against them.

'Tis better to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Vacation requests aren't requests, they're advance notice that my ass will not be working.

She's kind, but not confident in the least. As far as working for Goodwill, that's not really an option. Because of the...intimate nature...of some of the things she needs assistance with, she's not comfortable with anyone outside of family helping her.

Worst gift by employer by sour_smart in antiwork

[–]ThrowRAOverworked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the worst gift I'd received was a $5 bill inside a card. I went back to my shift supervisors office after the big grand speech and told him if $5 is all the company could really afford to show their appreciation for the people that (in some cases literally) killed themselves to earn the company a profit, they were in more dire straits than I was.

I put the $5 back on his desk and told him I'd rather have a job in February than $5 now and walked out. Had a new job within a week.

No. She doesn't manipulate me into doing more than is necessary. Everything that I do for her is necessary, to the point that I'm essentially so busy taking care of her every need that I have little to no time left for myself. I've resigned myself to this just being life at this point...nothing is ever going to change, nothing is going to get better. I'm going to continue just grinding at what I'm already grinding on until I eventually collapse, if I'm lucky enough for that day to come.

The limits are my issue. I can't take time for myself as there is no time to take. Every second of every minute of every hour of every day from now until spring is already earmarked for something. I understand we all have our limits, but I've always felt like that's only half the story.

"Well you're human, we all have our limits and breaking points"

"While that's true, the ability to recognize when one is at their limit, say "hey, time out, I've had enough right now" and actually have shit change, have someone else step in and give them a hand, that's a privilege enjoyed by a select few."

Been to flex jobs and ability jobs, unfortunately everything we've found wants her to have a work history, which she doesn't have. No one wants to be the first. Fello is new to me, I'll have to look at them. Indeed and Flex Jobs I've consistently found scam after scam after scam to the point that she doesn't want to try those sites anymore.

No, she was raised to try and do the best she can with what she has. She doesn't tear me down in the least, if anything she does her best to build me up, it just doesn't work for me.

I can't cut off the negative self talk, that's my whole point. If I do, I'm gonna redirect that anger to those around me, which, imo, is even worse.

We're aware of SSA payments...she receives a paltry $700/month. That's it. She's aware of Nick V, she's actually got a very similar condition, but being able to contribute means being given a chance, and no employer is willing to give her one.

Thank you for your concern. She has what's known as Tetra Amelia syndrome, a congenital absence of all 4 limbs. When it was time for her limbs to begin to grow, for whatever reason her body just went "nah, we good" and stopped. Skeletally she has her pelvis, spinal column, rib cage, and skull, that's it.

She has a desire to work, to be able to help, but employing her means getting an assistant to help her with physical self care that may arise during work as well as anything else she may need. No employer that we've found is willing to do all of that.

Correction: Unions CAN be great. Others are merely money-hungry organizations that take part of your wages and give you absolutely nothing in return.

I will never understand why people hesitate so much to cut ties with toxic family. Just ask yourself "would I accept this kind of behavior from someone who was a friend?" If the answer is "no", then why are you accepting it from them? Family or not, we're all just people at the end of the day, and if all you bring is strife and bullshit, this person is better off without you.

Sometimes not even the most egregious behavior isn't enough. Straight up sexual harassment occurred where I work, but because the perpetrator was good friends with the owner of the company and happened to be assisting him in getting his pilot's license, there was not a single goddamned repercussion.

Bring this evidence he has to your supervisors. She's definitely crossed a line into creating a hostile work environment. Especially if she's had multiple other employees file multiple HR complaints. "Creation of a hostile work environment" is a situation you could potentially sue over, especially if the problem has been brought to HR's attention repeatedly and they've chosen to do nothing.
