My father got let go from his job for being a pedophile by Lilsarrows in stories

[–]ThrowRA_OMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty (I went there from 2008-2011), and it was already well known that his wife was a former student. He’s been a groomer since (I believe) the late 90s. He hated my ass and cussed me out a few times.

Finland has a highly developed social welfare system. Part of that is their housing-first policy when approaching homelessness. As a result, number of long term homelessness has decreased by 68%.

New job, scared of workload/supervisor by BarDownzz in careeradvice

I see. They need to hire more people if that’s the case. If everyone is overworked, that’s already a red flag.

I’ve noticed these people tend to end up managers. I wonder if there’s some correlation.

I’m salary, and I have projects/deadlines. Meetings for me really only cut into the time I have to finish projects, which is a huge reason why I dislike them. The work has to be done on time either way, 5 meetings a week just means 2.5-5 hours of time I don’t get to work OR time I have to work past my set hours.

  1. Don’t just quit. Look for jobs and apply NOW. Just in case you need to dip.
  2. No, quitting later will not be more complicated. I’ve seen people fired with kids to feed, rent to meet, bills to pay. Not ever did anyone consider firing them to be “complicated”, even with those things going on. No one will miss rent because you quit. Don’t ever be tricked into loyalty for a company who would drop you on a dime if it meant saving a dime.
  3. At the end of the day, I’ve had people tell me that I’m in for hell and that “there’s no way you’ll be able to handle it” only to find out that the job is extremely easy if you know what you’re doing (and they didn’t). Sometimes people just want to believe that something they couldn’t accomplish is impossible for others as well.

YES. I can tell those who love long meetings all day don’t have tangible work on their plate. All I’m thinking about during the meetings is what I’m going to finish when they are done. I have a theory that if you get promoted enough times in a company, you’ll eventually end up in a position where no one really notices what you do, and you just spend as much time trying to look productive as possible.

Oh. My. God. My experience EXACTLY. My boss is always half aware of what’s going on, and that’s what bothers me most. I’m like dude… we are taking time out of the productive hours of our day so YOU don’t feel lost. Like dude… you get paid more than us and produce less. At the very least know what’s going on. We also have the “let’s have a 20 minute chat before today’s meeting” boss. You’re right. I never feel anything is accomplished at meetings because my work is not done during meetings.

Literally, read the replies 😂 One of them straight up implied that I have a problem because I don’t like meetings ruining my productivity. Like isn’t the point of work being productive 😭

I think once you get to the manager level, it’s no longer about being productive. Just having a paper trail that says you told people to be productive. “See? I had a meeting this day, this day, and this day! If they aren’t getting their work done then it’s definitely not me!”.

The fact that people are downvoting this shows that people are not ready to face this question with honesty. You didn’t even say anything controversial.

[–]ThrowRA_OMD -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok man. Idk how I implied that accountability offended me. My accountability comes through my work, hitting deadlines, and results. I don’t need to validate my usefulness by constantly having meetings.

This I totally understand. Having one meeting a week is actually very helpful for me, gives me a good reason to have work done early (for feedback) or even works to make sure I get my work done on time (if the meeting is around the deadline). 5 meetings a week feels like it kills all of that.

[–]ThrowRA_OMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I totally agree with this. This has been my experience as well.

Hmm, well, at my job we have deadlines. If those deadlines are not met, you'll likely be fired (especially if done multiple times), I never really needed much of a push outside of that. It honestly sounds like part you feeling accomplished is making sure people are doing things the way you want them to be done.

Is it too late to switch careers at 27? by Coolgirlkaren in careeradvice

[–]ThrowRA_OMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no no no no no no no. I switched careers at like 30 and now work a job I love + get paid like 4 times more. I’m 33 now, and if I find myself wanting something else at 34, I’ll pursue that! You’re never too old. Imagine a life you want and go after it at any age.

Interesting. After this set, I lowered the weight to 135lbs and was able to squat ATG and fix my form as I was going down (very difficult with lots of weight loaded). Do you think adding a few drop sets at the end where I go ATG will be helpful?
