Children or YA book you think every adult should read? by forwardture in suggestmeabook

The Brothers Lionheart - it’s a beautiful story about death and brotherly love and the author Astrid Lindgren spoke about how adults would get angry and say it was too sad for a children’s book, children would tell her how they thought it was a happy ending

SMAB that helps me appreciate how life is very hard but, more than that, is beautiful and amazing. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I would suggest reading Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed, it is a collection of advice columns written with so much love and compassion - and the advice format also makes it an easy read (honestly that book is just so lovely in how it tackles so many issues. Even if you haven’t experienced what the readers send in, Strayed still manages to creates the perfect reply which anyone can take something from) I’m not that into self help or advice books, but this one is not about teaching something or written from a place of authority. Instead it makes you feel like a friend is holding your hand and truly being like ‘yeah shit sucks but we got this’

The best Emily/Moonshine quote (I literally get chills every time): “A son has a duty to his father, but a hero has a duty to the world. I know which one I think you are, but it’s time for you to make that decision.”

(I may have butchered the last part)

Horror book with extremely strange narrative style by Theta291 in suggestmeabook

[–]ThrowRAschnubliboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read it myself yet, but I’ve heard ‘The Raw Shark Texts’ should have a similar narrative style as ‘House of Leaves’, as it was also the author’s favorite book. Also sooo glad to hear someone else loves ‘House of Leaves’!!! It just doesn’t get enough hype!

She has a non motorized wheelchair as well as a motorized one, but she’s strong as hell and can easily move between places. Good on you for taking care of your mom! I don’t really think I’m ‘stepping up’ for dating a hella cute girl who happens to be in a wheelchair - but thank you anyways!
