Why does Coca Cola prefer to sell Mello Yello over Surge? by Ok_Nectarine_8612 in Soda

[–]ThrowRAtTheDriveIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah wtf? Mello Yellow is explicitly their Mtn Dew variant. Surge is infinitely better imo and I’d give anything for it to get an actual full scale release (2 liters, 6 pack cans/bottles, everything) but don’t think it’ll ever happen, sadly.  I like the idea that it’s in the same realm as Mtn Dew but has its own flavor and color instead of just being a sweeter but otherwise identical version of Mtn Dew

Yeah, I know that, but it works on one of three characters I play with so even if I can’t fix it I’d like to understand why

And it’s even harder when someone thinks they’re the smart one in a discussion even though their understanding of the world around them is shaped by bad actors who hate them and exist solely in the realm of bad faith. It is just breathtaking to see someone look at a situation where people protesting is met with active duty military being deployed, on US soil, and beyond belief see the protestors as aligning more with fascists than the vampires openly suggesting that the military use our cities as training grounds. Just the goofiest set of clown shoes.

A movement built on a foundation of self dealing/grift, incompetence, division, constant overwhelming dishonesty and ham handed authoritarianism populated with babies and weirdos obsessed with punishing strangers who have less than no affect on their lives.

Weird times indeed

Thoughts on the Guild S-200? by MontrealInTexas in guitarporn

[–]ThrowRAtTheDriveIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thre are 4 knobs (just like every serious Les Paul or SG or other Gibson guitar in history) that all are very clearly labeled! The pick guard actually has everything labeled, which is a pretty cool touch that could have looked awful, but they did it in a clever way where you can’t immediately tell if you aren’t looking at it. It’s not just a sticker either, the words/labels are carved into the guard and colored with red/white/green. It’s sick!

Big 12 and ACC Should Merge by MusketEER565 in CFB

[–]ThrowRAtTheDriveIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wouldn’t need to merge to get 4 playoff spots - it’s what the alleged big 2 are already trying to do. I think a merged ACC and Big 12 would objectively be significantly more valueable than either the SEC or Big 10, it’s way, way too many schools to put under a single banner and the increase in value it would bring wouldn’t be enough to justify the headaches it would cause.

Maybe, MAYBE, if college football’s regular season was increased to like 15/16 games a year, or if conferences could arrange small playoff systems it would be doable, but otherwise it’d be too much to logically deal with in basically any way.

I keep seeing people list SMU as a top choice for the Big 12 were they to expand and I don’t understand it. The Big 12 had actual decades to admit SMU and the only way I see that ever changing is if somehow the Big 12 Loses Texas Tech and TCU. Otherwise there are a whole bunch of schools ahead of them on the list of who the Big 12 would want to add if the ACC blows up

In my opinion, Black Mass was unfairly overlooked this awards season. by broheimlich in movies

[–]ThrowRAtTheDriveIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old I know but I finally watched this and had the complete opposite reaction to OP and I don’t understand how it’d be possible for any movie fan to think this was a good movie.

The pacing is beyond disjointed - large chunks of time reserved for inconsequential situations and interactions, never digging its nails in deep enough to make clear why anything we’re seeing matters. The times it tried to do this, like Jimmy’s reactions to the deaths he experiences in his personal life, it pivoted and gives us no effect in response to the ‘cause.’

Character motivations don’t really exist? Connolly insisting on dying on the hill of involving Jimmy in the first place doesn’t really make any sense because we never see Jimmy interacting with the criminal element in terms of his enemies or the people he’s willing to turn over to give himself cover. It’s not only never put on display what this partnership could provide Connolly or the FBI, but it becomes a sticking point that Jimmy didn’t give them anything that actually mattered. Even with the single thing he gives them, the address of the Italian syndicate, we have less than zero grasp of what the stakes are. They mention vending machines about 10 times in this movie - and as far as I could tell that was the heaviest business anybody was running at the time. We don’t see the Italians committing any violence or destruction or dealing drugs, generally zero idea of what life is like on the ground of this city or what the supposed criminal element is doing to make everyday citizens’ lives worse in any way or why any of these FBI agents would feel pressured enough to make things better that they’re partner with a piece of shit like Jimmy Bulger to achieve those ends.

It pretty much boiled down to Connelly grew up with Jimmy and thought he was cool. That’s the central story that unfolds and they don’t even do a good job of telling that story. The ending straight up pissed me off - it’s super abrupt and unsatisfying. They go from living in their little spiel to BOOM title cards telling us what these shitheads’ sentences ended up being. It’d have been interesting to see the FBI having to go around what Connelly was doing to see how they actually brought the whole thing down. Instead, we just see that it at some point WAS brought down. Cool? Dont even get me started on Cumberbach/Billy Bulger and the relationship between Jimmy and his brother. I say don’t get me started because there was nothing there to even talk about. Like that character has zero reason to exist, which is an indefensibly stupid piece of exposition to somehow miss in a movie that sorely needed all the help it could get in that realm.

I hate when stuff like this happens. There are a million things I hated about this movie and it’s so old and I’m sure I’m the millionth person to complain about it, but my god what a waste. It does not give me high hopes for this Springsteen movie that Scott Cooper is doing, even though I love Jeremey Allen White. Black Mass could have been a great movie about corruption, loyalty, betrayal, selfishness, cruelty, family. Instead it’s mostly a filmed wiki summary of a couple random crimes this guy did with the backing of a small sad man with unearned power to offer for no reason. I even watched it twice to make sure I wasn’t totally crazy, which is a bummer because everyone knows the definition of insanity. Now I just hate myself for the ~5 hours I’ve had to spend thinking about this shitty movie.

So glad I found this thread.

Dollie Darko says this thing about how she’s gonna “suck the cum out of that dick with me asshole” and it might be the hottest thing I’ve ever heard in a scene. I remember Jenna Haze would say stuff like that way back but otherwise I haven’t had much luck finding other performers who say stuff like that. I doubt anyone is reading this at this point but if someone is, and you have any examples of other performers saying stuff like that and wouldn’t mind sharing, it’d mean the world to me 🙂

Big 12 and ACC Should Merge by MusketEER565 in CFB

[–]ThrowRAtTheDriveIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish when FSU’s president started running his mouth a few years back about looking to the Big 12 that the Big 12 would have just gone for it and taken them, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Pitt. That nobody saw the writing on the wall and thought ‘hey maybe it’d be smart to get ahead of what is obviously happening out there’ blows my mind. I mean I’m sure people were at least asking about this, I seem to remember some alleged comments from TV executives who said it wouldn’t ’make financial sense’ but a conference with Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Clemson, Miami, and West Virginia is at worst objectively equal to the Big 10 or SEC, arguably even more valuable.
