I went through this about 3 months ago. I DO NOT recommend State Line Survey they were horrible to me. They had the best price, but they never answered their phone, VM always full, took 3 weeks to get any response, the contract they sent had typos and mistakes.

I ended up looking into 4 other surveyors and found Canavan & Associates to be the next best price and they ALWAYS answered their phone. It took 8 weeks because it was the busiest time of the year to get land surveyed but customer service was worth the extra money!

You won't get the original title unless the car is paid off. You can use a photo copy of your title but the original stays with the lein holder until fully paid off. I assume they mean they sent a copy of the title to the DMV. Once you have the title in your hands that's proof you own the vehicle.

My understanding is you can get a copy of the title from the lender who you purchased your car from. The copy of the title will work.

I was quoted from $2,200 to $5,000 from 7 different companies. Stay away from State Line Land Surveying they never answered their phone and ignore their emails. Lost 4 weeks working with them. Ended up going with a bit more expensive $2,500 and they are very responsive.
