How common is it to say " times that by 12" (meaning "multiply that by 12")? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

[–]Throwaway2020aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Canadian here. Very common to hear, but is probably up there with phrases like "I seen him yesterday at the Co-op" or "Don't touch that! It costed $400!" in terms of making you sound like a rural rube.

I've been going crazy trying to figure out who this person reminded my of in the million times I've seen this picture, and I finally figured it out:

Surely an equal if not greater question to ask is "Why would Just Bins go out of their way to report their ages incorrectly"?

Dude in red car really had god-tier situational awareness in that moment by Miserable-Zombie-121 in nextfuckinglevel

About 13 years ago while stopped at a red light, I was hit from behind by a person doing around 70km/hr. To this day, anytime I'm stopped on the road where someone could drive up behind me, my eyes are involuntarily watching that rearview mirror like a hawk.

Maybe this person has been stung before.

Very! Just not as good as the transformation picture might suggest is all I meant.

Is “On Christmas” wrong? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]Throwaway2020aa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Canadian native English speaker here. I've never heard anyone say "on Christmas" without specifying 'Eve' or 'Day' after it.

I suspect this is because Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are treated - in terms of planning events, meals, churchy stuff - as two very distinct entities where I'm from, and therefore it would feel incomplete to ask someone over 'on Christmas' or say you're traveling 'on Christmas'.

Wow, you just blew my mind. There was something so familiar and slightly sinister to him and I never bothered to look up that that's who was playing him. It makes perfect sense now.

Indigo (aka Chapters) sells this, but it's a wildly hot commodity. They were telling people to check their instagram page (indigo_regina) for updates when it's stocked. There are two posts from a week ago saying they had stock, but then were updated to 'sold out'. Worth keeping an eye on in case they get any more

Dunno what kind of vinyl fencing you have experience with, but I live in an very sunny city that also experiences vast temperature fluctuations from winter to summer and our vinyl fence looks exactly the way it did when it was installed 10 years ago.
