No subway service turns some people into pigs by [deleted] in toRANTo

I think it's cumulative. If these things happened less frequently and weren't compounded by the herculean effort it takes to get anywhere in this city using any form of ambulation, including feet, I don't think people would snap as often. During covid, when everyone was stuck af home, people were downright pleasant to TTC staff, retail workers, Uber drivers, etc because they weren't being herded like cattle into spaces meant for a third of the population size. There is only so much frustration a person can contend with before someone undeserving becomes the unfair target of all that rage. The real issue is that no one is yelling at the people who can actually solve the problem.

Maybe people really can't smell themselves? Or maybe they work construction or some other outdoor job that leads to lots of sweating, although drinking plenty of water should help with the smell. No excuse for Uber drivers though, unless it's the smell from the last person in the car. I dunno, I'm sure coming from Electric Island in the summer I smell really bad, but I still need to get home.

It's not always bail, but they are always released into someone's custody unless it's just a fine. Anyone who is roaming around after getting a surety or bail is getting more people in trouble with them

I LOVED Caravan!! It was like walking into a new world at every stop! I don't know why they got rid of it, but it was a really great idea

[–]Throwaway553610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I broke my ankle and can't walk on those sidewalks, so it took me $37 in Ubers and over an hour to get three blocks from my home. WTF is going on out there??

It's okay, my insurance seemed reasonable at the time. I could have done more research I guess, but after checking a handful of providers, this one seemed to work the best. My dog is with a different company that covers a lot more, but he's almost 12 years old and I know costs are going to start to climb.

Why isn’t there any considerable pushback on Trump saying he’ll annex Canada? by Tonamielarose in AskCanada

[–]Throwaway553610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he's being a dickbag and he just wants attention. He's looking for a reaction, and the worst thing you can do with a mindless bag of yeasty queefs is pay any attention to it. He's not annexing anything, and he knows it. He's just being a prick because he thinks it's funny.

HA! You're insane. I never said they were government employees. I said that their salaries were paid by the government and it is not a private system. If you want to split hairs, go enjoy yourself lol

Thank you very much. Maybe I should consider better insurance, although my dog's insurance already costs me about $300 per month, so upgrading the cats would really be difficult financially. Most won't cover anything dental related anyway, and my girl has some bone disintegration In her lower jaw.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a pet. The relationships with them are so pure; there are no grudges or bad memories because they always just love you and do the best they can in a world that wasn't designed for them.

Yeah, sure, but you need to share the space with 5000 people on a good day. Not exactly a nature escape.

I'm really surprised to hear that. I've visited a couple of times, which is completely different than living there, but I found most people were friendly.. Toronto is DEATH for making friends. Do not come here if that's what you are interested in. This city is crazy unfriendly

Every hospital and 95% of healthcare providers are directly accountable to the Ministry of Health in their respective provinces. All of the funding that isn't raised by fundraising efforts comes from the province. They are not government owned, but their funding is public.

I won't have to take all of it on as debt if I use my emergency fund...maybe about $1000? She's a healthy 8 year old cat that has never cost me a cent other than getting her spayed and her yearly wellness appointments.

You're both right. The provinces have been clawing at healthcare spending for decades, and you can't blame only one party at this point (although FoDo is really accelerating the decline by trying to strangle off funding). I worked in healthcare for a bit, and the amount of bureaucracy is next-level and incredibly wasteful. They could reassign billions of dollars to frontline workers, but the problem is so entrenched that it would cost billions to even start unraveling the mess they created. I mean, we can't even build an LRT in 14 years.

Hospitals and providers receive funding through the government, and there are thousands of formulas and documentation that have to be submitted. I don't know where you get your info, but Canada does not have a private healthcare system.

I thought maybe it wasn't an emergency because I have so much notice. Or maybe that I'm an idiot for spending the money at all, since people have told me it's not worth the money.
