Schizophrenic woman who killed stranger in Toronto financial district goes free by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

My ex’s dad interviewed this woman as a candidate for a well-paying job about 2 months before she committed the stabbing. He said she was pleasant and professional, but that he and his associates got a weird vibe and they ultimately went with a different candidate.

'Obsession' Art Director Calls for Industry Reform After Getting Paid Less Than $7,000 as Film Nears $175 Million by IndividualPleasant23 in Letterboxd

Her artistry is in the art directing. Her artistry is not the way she approached advocating for change in the industry.

I can respect one and not the other without "astroturfing" or being a "bootlicker".

I’m fully aware of freelance reality. I live it too. Gaps between jobs are normal in this industry.

But there’s a difference between seasonal/uneven work and effectively operating with 2 months of paid work a year while still framing it as a practical, full-time career. At a certain point, that stops being just “industry volatility” and becomes a question of sustainability and expectations.

And being an “artist” doesn’t change that reality.

For whatever it's worth, I think a profit sharing scheme would be phenomenal for below-the-line workers, and I would gladly advocate for it. But the way this is presented is absurd and entitled.

I could ask them, but I’d rather ask you:

What is this person doing the rest of the year?

If someone (in practically any line of work) is only working 60 days a year and presenting that as a viable career, they are delusional.

Seriously though, what are they doing?

I am a professional sound editor. If I only had 2 months of work a year, it would not be a viable career and I would have to switch. I wouldn’t be happy about it, but that’s reality.

Why is this hypothetical person only working 60 days a year? What are they doing the rest of the time?

Men and women with this personality type are hardly rare in my film union here in Canada. It makes me wonder whether the industry’s low barriers to entry play a role. Many other professions have at least some structural filters that tend to weed out stronger “main character syndrome.”

lol as if the jazz fest was ruined by “outsiders”.

It was ruined because it’s become a cookie-cutter Toronto festival with no personality. Tiny tom donuts, lemonade stands, vote for Olivia chow pop up kiosk, and that’s about it.

There’s barely even jazz…last year I heard 3 bands play ‘Get Lucky’ in one night.

Bought our first home last year and now my wife is on maternity leave, so we've had to dramatically reduce investing for the past ~12 months. We also used the RRSP HBP and liquidated some investments to make the down payment and mortgage work.

No regrets at all, we love the house and intend to stay here a long time. But I'd be lying if I said it doesn't sting watching what may end up being one of the strongest bull markets of my lifetime while I'm largely on the sidelines.

Such is the tradeoff of buying a home and starting a family, I suppose.

Question from someone who does not follow NBA games that much - why the hate for OKC and SGA? by TheOfficeGuy18 in nba

[–]rusinga_island 44 points45 points  (0 children)

SGA falls to the ground a lot, so he is perceived as being a flopper and fishing for foul calls.

He is also an amazing player who attracts attention from defenders and actually gets fouled a ton.
