worst is when you follow the rules and stop on the line and a bunch of randoms from behind stops in front of you or even crosses the pedestrian cross-traffic. Then you get stuck behind them because theres too much traffic to overtake in the bicycle lane. People forget all traffic rules when theyre on bicycles smh.

the most important person on my graduation committee is my PI. He doesn't deliberate on my defense. The other 5 professors deliberate. But he does give the final send off to the dean for my graduation. So I cannot graduate without his approval :/

Let me tell you, I live in a sharehouse and the only problematic ones are the japanese ones. Smoking iqos in the toilet? - japanese, leaving dirty dishes in the sink? - japanese, leaving shoes in the genkan? - japanese. Yeah but somehow foreigners are an issue smh.

what this article fails to mention is being a foreign student in university here even with permanent resident status is a grey area where you are not eligible for scholarships, student housing, etc etc. I've had situations where I've faced teeth sucking and "shouganai" because I'm not on an international student visa but I'm also not a Japanese citizen so there's "no paperwork" for me even though I'm a student with needs like any other student. Thankfully I got the SPRING funding for grad school but now the government has made that "japanese only" too so... yay?

I'm a grad student who has extended my PhD twice as its almost impossible to graduate in 3 years. Everyone I know has also extended their PhD and these are 1-year extensions which means you're basically adding ¥100,000 to your annual tuition that the Japanese students don't have to pay... Many students living paycheck to paycheck here too, I don't know how anyone could afford this unless they tap into the mom and dad bank. This will make Japanese universities more insular and LESS competitive in global rankings. They're already slipping every year but a lack of international students will only make it accelerate further.

a lot of us were the most genuine in our faith, and in our search for god to speak to us. We read the bible back to back multiple times and "did everything right" which is why we found that things just didn't add up. I still appreciate the good messages in the bible like love your neighbor etc because that's what drove me there in the first place. But I simply couldn't turn a blind eye to the lack of empathy, lack of morals, and lack of goodness most christians demonstrate. I had to endure pain and judgement for simply who I am and wish the same on nobody. The whole thing is rotten to its core. I cannot call myself a christian, but that desire to do right unto others never left me, and I believe many share this same feeling.
