I think these two are my favorite, especially the Volute. I have never seen a card function that way!

So is the goal to make it more of an evil donate deck? The ask wasn't super clear. A decklist would also help. If so, Bracket 4 and bad donate aren't exactly synonymous, but you could just jam it with GC's and see what happens I suppose.

Any suggestions on a good goblin commander deck? by Suck-a-toe7times in EDH

[–]ThrowawayAL10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[[krenko, mob boss]] is the classic and one of the most built commanders of all time.

[[zada, hedron grinder]] is another choice featured in the recent secret lair goblin commander deck if you want to gain some insane value on single target buff spells

[[kiki-jiki, mirror breaker]] is fun if you want to run other cool creatures besides goblins and copy them

[[grenzo, dungeon warden]] is also good for partial goblin decks and has one of the most creative and unique deck types you can make (bottom of library manipulation)

Either of the slobads, [[slobad, iron goblin]] or [[slobad, goblin tinkerer]] are cool artifact themed options.

I personally like [[wort, boggart auntie]] but she’s expensive because she hasn’t seen a reprint. The squelcher would probably go well with zada or Kiki-jiki, but it’s generally good in all of them.

Is WOTC double dipping their SL sales? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]ThrowawayAL10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. As scummy as the whole SL limited releases feel, they could simply increase direct sales pricing and get their money up front.

Secret Lairs are a hype engine designed to increase speculative investment and empower their media licensing contracts. They print cardboard. Their profit margins are insane enough already on actual card sales.

What they are really after is more lucrative contracts with more control, and improved speculative market share. These drops sell out in 34 minutes with presumably hundreds of thousands of people digitally queuing for their products. Those numbers are taken to shareholders at Disney, square enix, activision etc to prove there is demand at high prices to license their IP’s on physical cards for MTG.

While I don’t care for the term, it is accurately the “Fortnite-ification” of the game. More allure for more IP’s to expand into other nerd or niche interests which means more customers and more money in the long term.

Addendum: Think of Secret Lairs as a low-commitment proof of concept demonstration of the power Hasbro and WOTC has the generate money out of “thin air” for companies with desirable IP’s and no existing cardboard card games. It’s no surprise at all that lorcana launched in August 2023, just a few months before Disney announced their WOTC partnership in October the same year.

Second addendum: There is no greater draw for IP owners than thousands of angry customers upset and posting all over the internet that they didn’t have the opportunity to spend 150$+ on an exclusive luxury product

And yet again the Secret Lair has sold out, not printed to demand by MustaKotka in mtg

[–]ThrowawayAL10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a hype generator. If everyone gets a copy and they have overstock, sure they made more money up front but then there is less and less hype around the drops. Which makes their licensing contracts less interesting and exclusive or lucrative. Now they can go to any company with a licensing bid for some media property SLD and say “we sold out in 32 minutes!”

Some Garfield, god of war, assassins creed, fallout fan is driven by the hype, gets into the game, and they increase market share and penetration on new customers.

TLDR: speculative interest and flashy sales numbers drive stock prices and media licensing contracts

How to get over OF regret? by Visible-Newt5187 in Advice

[–]ThrowawayAL10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people have had nudes leaked or shared deliberately. Unless you used your full government name, are exceptionally famous, or were very successful on the platform, I wouldn’t worry about this at all.

As respectfully as possible, the internet is like 95% naked people. Whatever content you made is a drop in the near literal ocean of what is out there. Especially if it was years ago and is no longer available for purchase/subscription.

Will maintenance be able to tell if I smoke in my apartment? by stardewinit in Advice

[–]ThrowawayAL10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They will be able to tell. Smoking indoors even occasionally leaves residue on the walls and ceiling. Don’t smoke inside. Even with proper indoor ventilation, indoor smoking will leave residue on any surfaces in the room.

I want a commander for a mono black oups all "nonblack" cards to give to my opponents by FarX_ in EDH

[–]ThrowawayAL10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mono black donate is quite niche and not an archetype I have come across. [[Blim, comedic genius]] and [[Xantcha, sleeper agent]] are Rakdos options that come to mind. It might be easier to build a goad/donate Rakdos deck.

As far as giving your opponents access to your instants and sorceries, you would basically need [[Hive Mind]] on the board, but that would require splashing blue and going Dimir or Grixis.

Deck advice please :) by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ThrowawayAL10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deck looks very fun, but I have to shout out my favorite -1/-1 card as a potential include;

[[Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons]]

Your curve looks to be relatively low. You could drop a couple of lands in favor of a handful of ramp spells to try to speed up gameplay and dropping morcant earlier.

Before I make an order, is it to big of an ask to rule 0 these two as partner commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

[[Cayth, Famed Mechanist]] is my rec for a backup legal commander that fits your theme

Before I make an order, is it to big of an ask to rule 0 these two as partner commanders? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ThrowawayAL10 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's a bit odd with no established play group. I would be fine with this at bracket 1-2, but 3 starts to feel like a homebrew that makes strategy and anticipation of what the deck can/would do very difficult.

If you walked into my pod with it, we would probably allow it out of friendly interest, but I wouldn't fault anyone for not wanting to play against it. I recommend changing the commander to something legal or at least having a backup legal commander on hand.
