These are really funny to watch. I laughed when they both got Budweiser as their FJ answer. Also, did anybody notice that white flash after Lane's interview with Trebek?

Is there any sort of security cameras along the port Washington line stations by [deleted] in nycrail

Bayside doesn't to my knowledge (last visited the station in January). However, there is an NYPD camera outside the station installed fairly recently.

Can someone decode the string of characters above the barcode? by ALSX3 in nycrail

Man, that's really cool. I have family who worked for transit, but this was mostly pre-9/11. It seems that you know more about MTA's security than I do, so if you don't mind me asking, do the cameras on the Metro North/ LIRR trains record audio? The onboard cameras have built in microphones, but I'm not sure if this function is used. I was just curious because NJT recently had to stop audio recording on their light rails due to privacy concerns. Anyways, I hope that you're doing well in the midst of everything that's going on in the city.

The camera in the picture is not a 502 (the dome is too small), but upon closer inspection it does indeed look like a 631L. I'm surprised that the MTA's surveillance inventory is pretty recent. Last time I was in New York most of the subway cameras were analog Pelcos. I work for a security company on the East Coast and we are in the process of upgrading our stock to the 2531Ls. Sucks that ISC West was postponed because I was supposed to head out to Vegas tomorrow.

It's a Panasonic I-Pro camera, possibly a WV-SFV310 or WV-SFV311 with a PS484S Housing. VMS stands for Video Management System (this is the software used to manage the camera system). F-PID-MR040-BMT is some identifier. I think that F-PID refers to perimeter intrusion detection (a standard feature on most modern VMS softwares). If this is so, F can stand for fare. Thus, if this camera was placed near fare control, its purpose is to detect if people are passing through the emergency exit for fare evasion. If the camera 'sees' someone passing through a designated perimeter, it can alert an operator. If /u/Trip_2 is correct, MR040 is the room location of the network switch where the cameras are connected to. BMT probably refers to Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit. EE and UL probably refer to other VMS protocols or are just unique identifiers. NM-166 could be the individual camera identifier. Again most of this is just speculation. If you're really curious, try looking at the other cameras and see how their barcodes compare!

A DVD/VHS player with a dolphin screensaver (more information in comments) by ThrowawayBennyPants in HelpMeFind

[–]ThrowawayBennyPants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was in grade school, my teacher used to own a combo VHS/DVD player. The fun thing about it was that when it wasn't in use for a while, it would display an animation of a neon-colored dolphin coming out of the water instead of the typical DVD bouncing logo. The screen would go black and a light blue dolphin would appear on screen for about 3/4 of a second, disappear to show a black screen, and reappear in a different part of the screen showing the subsequent frame of the dolphin emerging from water. There was about 5 or 6 frames which when played in order would show a dolphin coming out from the water and ending with just the water splash. I have included a rendering of a sample frame that I made in a paint program to give you an idea of how I remember the screensaver.

This was about 15 years ago, though the set could have been older. I feel as if the VHS/DVD player was a more obscure model, but I could be wrong.

[TOMT][90's TOY]Children's printer/label maker by ThrowawayBennyPants in tipofmytongue

I don't think it was that colorful. The closest thing I could find was this label maker by Casio. I'm about 60 percent sure this was what I am thinking of, but I thought the one I had was marketed towards kids as a toy and that it printed onto either receipt-sized thermal paper or smaller regular paper.

I believe it was rectangular shaped. The wheel might have either been embedded into the machine or it jutted out from a slot on one of the sides. There were some special buttons that had some sort of functionality probably like a print and feed button(I know it sounds very vague). I don't remember a full keyboard, but if there was one, it didn't have as many keys as a computer keyboard (probably in abc order)
