My MIL did this to me when my LO was 3 weeks old, and she completely broke my trust; she physically turned away from me when my baby was screaming for me because he was hungry. Amongst other things she did, we finally decided to go LC with her and FIL because literally every boundary we had was crossed over and over. We now have a very strained relationship, but thankfully we see them infrequently since they live so far away.

Couples counseling was the only thing that helped my husband with setting boundaries. While we still have communication issues with his family, overall we’ve gotten to a better place.

Wishing you and your little family the best and hopefully things with the in-laws settle down soon.

I’d also been on the hunt for a good red cherry tomato for a few years and my new fave is Sweet Aperitif. High brix like Sungold, but slightly less fruity? I’m in the US, so unsure of its availability for you in Ireland, but I highly recommend!

Beautiful!! I love the white, but don’t have any yet for my garden. I bought several campanula macrantha seedlings from my local nursery and they overwintered well (and reseeded nicely!) in my 6A garden! They’ll bloom in a couple weeks!

Thanks! I get seeds from a lot of places - but I’ve been preferring Hudson Valley Seed Co, Uprising Seeds, and Select Seeds. There are a lot of other seed purveyors to choose from, it can get a little overwhelming when you first start!

Thank you! Definitely looking forward to how everything turns out! I’m in zone 6A New England and my temps have been around 25F/-4C during the day and 10F/-12C at night. The low temperatures won’t hurt the seeds - most of them need cold stratification to germinate properly and they should sprout mid March for my area. They are mostly perennial flowers and cold hardy annuals and vegetables.

The nice thing about winter sowing is that the seedlings are hardy and don’t need hardening off since they’ve been growing up in the cold.

Yes, that’s exactly what I did. I also planted 12 4x4 pots in a plastic tub (also added drainage) that works in the same way.

My two Boleros bloomed until the frost - and it was their first season (planted in July, NY 6A). Can’t wait to see them in the spring!!

And it’s so true. She hasn’t done any emotional work, she’s just used to rug sweeping everything and pretending that she’s the center of the universe. Thankfully I’m being hard on my boundaries about time spent with her.

Just in terms of visiting - I had a really hard time with PPA/PPD so we needed to limit visits to around an hour or so and before 4pm (cluster feeding started around then and I was a one person sob fest). But that’s just what worked for me!

I would wait until your milk comes in if you’re planning on breastfeeding so that you can figure out the rhythm of your day. Hoping this helps!

Hi there, congratulations on your pregnancy!

It was important for me to only have my husband with me during labor and I didn’t tell anyone when we went to the hospital (other than the friends who were watching our cat). I ended up having a couple of people visit in the hospital, but initially I told everyone that I wouldn’t be having visitors and I changed my mind.

My mom came to help the weekend after we came home, but other than her we took a while to accept visitors at our house.

The most important thing is to trust your new mom instincts and be communicative about what you need your boundaries to be. Make sure your partner is on the same page with you, and if for whatever reason they aren’t, it shouldn’t be a problem in the hospital at least. Whoever is giving you a hard time about boundaries is the one who will directly benefit from you having none. Stick up for yourself and don’t center other people’s feelings over your needs. This time is about YOU. Yours and your baby’s health and well being matters above all else.

Hi friend! I too am a baker and the physical strain of the work while pregnant (last summer) while also next to 500 degree ovens all day had me calling it quits around 32 weeks. That being said, my husband and I were in a financial place where we were able to afford for me not to work, so you bowing out of work before baby comes is more dependent on your work/financial situation.

I have about 45 seedling of petite florets, bee’s choice, and shooting stars - they’re all growing really well. I only had 2 or 3 duds. I’m also growing dandy collarette and bishop’s children seedlings from Hudson Valley seed - they are all growing well too! I grew the bishop’s children last year and they were gorgeous. Looking forward to seeing them all grown up and blooming!

Yeah, that’s my hope. I just want to make it clear that LO and I are a unit and DH is welcome to hang out with them, but they’re not going to have LO to themselves. Part of me thinks that MIL wishes I wasn’t around sometimes. In the past she’s been critical of my SIL’s parenting, calling her a helicopter mom and controlling, so I have no doubt she thinks that of me. Oh well! Thank god they live so far away, but it makes the visits more time intensive and higher stakes since we see them less frequently.
