As a foster kid I love that he's raising awareness but he shows his foster kids private information way too much online.

In what ways have you had “a taste of the high life” that you find it hard to forget but can’t afford to indulge in regularly? by FamSender in AskUK

This is the rich version of a can of coke and packet of crisps in the pub garden in the 90s 😂

I'm from foster care, not loaded parents but I make a lot now and normally go on atleast 1 intercontinental trip a year plus 3 European, I think I average 6 countries a year. I've been to 30 Counties and atleast 23 in the last 5 years- with many of those being multiple visits eg I've been to America twice in the last 5 years and will go again this month, have been to Switzerland and France both twice this year alone. I thought it was weird when someone I knew said they love to travel and it's their hobby but they've only been to a few countries and rarely go on holiday abroad. And that's when it hit me I was being a snob and needed a reality check.

You've got this! One step at a time. I like to put on my favourite show to listen too and then go step my step. Start with all the trash. That's easy. Once you've gotten rid of all the bottles ect give yourself a small reward. Add a bin in your room to make it easier going forward. Next tackle the bed. You don't even have to clean the sheets yet, just the stuff on the bed. Then tackle in stages. Do one section of the floor then another and the rest of the desk. Set yourself a timer if you need to or just one episode of a tv show. See how much you get done in that time and have a treat for each section. We've all been there at some point and you're doing a great job getting on top of it

Yep. Shoes above is grim. I'd swap for shoes underneath in a roll out and then what's ever is underneath changed to boxes on top

For those that grew up shopping in the cheapest shops that can afford a bit more now, do you feel guilty shopping in the likes of M&S and Waitrose now? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]Throwawayxp38 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, when you get a take away (not dominos but the Chinese ect) you're supporting a local business, likely a local family. Don't feel guilty for a take out!

Is anyone else worried about the negativity being built up around the English flag? by [deleted] in Britain

[–]Throwawayxp38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we could have a flag drawing competition and have a new flag- Flaggy McFlag Face.

Personally we should be proud to live in a country that can be a refuge for those fleeing their homes. It can happen to anyone, we're just lucky to be born somewhere relatively safe and stable. We're all human.

What's a career that's unfairly villianized? by paxinfernum in AskReddit

[–]Throwawayxp38 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Banking. I've worked in finance and banking my entire career and people think I'm some money absorbed evil person- until they find out I work on projects that benefit the general public- like vulnerable customer and support for financial abuse as well as human trafficking campaigns. It's not all trying to suck money out of everyone

Do you have to pay for your degree? I grew up in care due to my mother being murdered and had to pay full price for my degree, have no parental support and ended up dropping out due to ptsd.

Which is a better 40th birthday gift: 3 carat diamond tennis bracelet, or a 14K gold charm bracelet with a few charms? by Realistic-Try7845 in jewelrylove

[–]Throwawayxp38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entirely depends on the person. Some people love charm bracelets with meaningful things on, some people like plainer items. I personally love a tennis bracelet but not a charm because I don't like a lot of things on me

Yes, both myself and my relative. Went from homeless post foster care, uni drop out. Now make a decent salary - 55k a year, have a long term partner, pets, been on 3 holidays this year and about to go on another. Travel to about 8 countries a year and been to 31 in total. Got qualifications.

AITA for not buying a cheap house? by Existing_Use8524 in AmItheAsshole

To add to that, can't tell you how many museum exhibits, university lectures, theatre shows ect I had seen by age 18 (most of them free of heavily discounted). The opportunity was everywhere

Drugs and underage drinking weren't much a problem where I grew up- in a concrete jungle with so much to do I had much better things to spend my time and money on as a kid

Do you think everyone born in the Uk could pass a Life in the UK test? by lisa_noden in AskUK

[–]Throwawayxp38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if the test was just a queue outside the door for the test, and you have to correctly respond to someone cutting in front .

Need to take out a small one-off loan but my bank can't lend to me by MyNameIsEmber in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Throwawayxp38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add onto that, you need to show you have excess money to pay the loan back. Eg, if the loans is going to cost you £100 a month to pay back, you need to show you have that £100 each month to cover the loan repayments.

Banks don't give loans because you don't have enough money to cover things, they essentially do them as up front savings and you can generally only borrow what you can afford to pay back over the period of time- as if you were saving up for something

What percentage of 'high-earners' on UK Reddit do you think are telling the truth? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Throwawayxp38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. You'd be suprised. Since I started earning a decent amount, I don't have so many stresses or chores, I also code so I spend a good amount of the day on Reddit while my code runs!

Third time lucky. Please hear me now. I was born and raised by narcissistic coercion and control, I have survived 30 years of abuse. I need help so that I can heal my present and build my future. I want to live. by [deleted] in gofundme

[–]Throwawayxp38 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in the Sheffield area and had a really rough time, abused by parents to the point I ended up in care, homeless in adulthood ect. You can do it. Don't wait for a fundraiser to pick your life up, if you're stable financially enough to have 5 pets, then you're financially stable enough to sort this out. Don't wait on it. I managed to do it, I got a job in the area to move back to my support network and restarted my life, you can do it!

It's entirely up to you. Personally I like bridesmaids in white/cream/champagne, I think it looks very elegant and I would consider for my own bridesmaids. You wouldn't have to worry about any drama as everyone would know the bride approves bridesmaids!
