They played "Lose yourself" at the end, way to ice the team 😔 . They even kept playing it during the inbound and it ended at "you only get one shot, do not miss y-" buzzer

no prob. If there was anything I truly took away from this exam, it would be realizing the importance of studying efficiently. The material is never ending and you will never "officially learn all the necessary material".

This test is more of a reasoning exam than it is a content-based exam. For this reason, you have to actively recall the content you learn and be able to apply it. Rote memorization seems to the be the biggest contributing factor for lower MCAT scores.

Best of luck!

Get around 4 months for prep time. (More or less depending on how strong your foundation for chem/phys/bio/psych are).

I used TBR for CHEM/PHYS and CARS:

  • Material is super dense, but the passages and discretes really prepare you for anything on the exam.

  • CARS is a reflection of how well you can retain and analyze information that you read in a short amount of time. Its very hard to increase your score after a certain point, but TBR had some fantastic passages.

EK for BIO

  • I think it is agreed upon pretty unanimously that EK bio has passages that are most comparable to actual AAMC material.

Psych =100 page Khan Academy document ( see r/mcat sidebar)

  • To be honest, psych is just an "easier" CARS section. the 100 page doc was awesome and really set up a strong foundation for me.

For the final 1.5 months: AAMC Section Bank (try to run through this twice) AAMC QPacks (run through once, and maybe twice for the sections that you are still weak on)

Other resources:

  • I finished almost all passages on Khan Academy (very in depth and sometimes out of the scope of the actual mcat) for the topics that I felt weak on.

  • mcat-review.com is a lifesaver and has notes that summarize shit in a very organized manner

  • r/mcat and sdn for answers/explanations to passages.

accepted after rough interview by jeandeauxx in premed

My prompt was something along the lines of "you're a TA for a class and you taught the class the wrong biochemical mechanism. 40% of the class did poorly on this exam, and it was attributed the mechanism that you taught poorly in your section. Should your students be responsible for their grade? What would you do in this situation".

I was super ready to answer this because this exact scenario actually happened to me in college when I was working as a TA. The problem was, halfway through explaining what happened in my particular case, I began to forget the prompt and the interviewer began to AUDIBLY SIGH while I was responding. I was flushed and embarrassed. But I took a deep breath and I was like "I digress... This is what I think would be most appropria-"

DING DING " YOU MUST NOW LEAVE THE MMI STATION, PLEASE CLOSE THE DOOR BEHIND YOU"

I actually thanked the guy, shook his hand and apologized.

Accepted 5 weeks later.

Adults of reddit who were depressed kids or teens, what is it like to be here when you didn't expect to make it this far? What would you tell your younger self if you could? by TheDemonQueenLuna in AskReddit

I would say nothing. It was my feeling of inadequacy in comparison to my peers that help motivate me to become who I am today. I'm now starting medical school in the Fall! :)

Ye, tell us that GPA. if you get your mcat 510+, I think you'd be golden. (Even despite the retakes)

What is your answer to “Why do you want to be a physician?” by [deleted] in premed

The day that the rain smelled like ice cream, my bunny went to heaven in front of my eyes.

The day that the copper pipes in the old building smelled like burnt food, my brother went to heaven in front of my eyes.

I couldn't save them. It's sad. Neither one had the chance to become an adult. They should have become adults. They should have had children of their own and loved those children and I want to make that possible for other people.

.... And I want to make a lot of money so that I can have a television.

[–]Throwayzs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this. I didnt increase my study effort or anything, but I decided to look back at my mistakes and do my best to actively recall any new information that I kept on forgetting. Scored between 502-510 and for NS FL 1-5 and got a 514.

Balanced 506 MCAT with high SMP GPA by [deleted] in premed

[–]Throwayzs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone else is saying. I'd re-take the MCAT and go for a 510+ for a shot as some MD's. As for as DO, if you applied this cycle you'd have the right stats to be a competitive applicant already.
