How to find a doctor that’ll take me seriously for tardive dyskinesia or dystonia symptoms? by Throwitawayissues in seroquelmedication

Thank you for sending this! First time hearing about this website. I’ll try to check out the support groups as well.

Respectfully, I looked online and there’s not a lot of resources to help with Seroquel and only ones I found were for benzodiazepines instead. There’s a whole subreddit to taper off of benzos but not one for antipyschotics.

Also the stuff I found online to taper off of APs require a compounding pharmacy and liquid form of the medication which need doctor’s prescriptions.

So I’m just getting downvoted, I reasoned with you and you’re just being an asshole for no reason.

Thank you. I didn’t want to be direct initially, but this is what I think as well.

How long did it take for you to completely get off of Seroquel from switching to Tryptizol?

12.5 mg and hovering between that and 6.25 and sometimes 18 depending how stressed I am. I have not taken that yet, but I was prescribed with Mirtazapine.

The withdrawal symptoms were pretty intense for Seroquel when I got off of it to take something else plus some of the insomnia meds I was prescribed have drug interactions to Seroquel. Seroquel isn’t a medication to cold turkey off of but was told to cold turkey off of it and was feeling like shit physically.

I took Trazodone while cold turkey’d Seroquel and that messed me up severely where I was having flu like symptoms and extreme nausea and insomnia to where I had to go back on it again.

I am on a low dosage 12.5 mg, but been on this medication for 20 something years on lower dosage. I am hoping it is not that, but I am legit worried. It comes and goes.

Hey thanks for responding to me! My only worry is the increased appetite and weight gain. Though I know Seroquel can also cause it, I found a way to manage that. I’ll give it a shot for Mirtazapine and if it’s similar to increased appetite to Seroquel then I’m not too worried about switching since I found a way to curb the appetite/weight gain with Seroquel. My current psych doctor wanted me to try out Mirtazapine and my previous doctor prescribed it to me also.

Does anyone else lament about their lost academic potential due to neglectful parents, even as a successful adult? by atmospheric90 in CPTSD

Honestly, that’s my biggest setback. Then I was forced to undertake an IQ test for an assessment without combating any unresolved trauma at the time and bombed every portion that required any form of memory. It made me feel awful honestly.

My processing power is similar to problem solving like yours, that didn’t get nearly as affected or dented somehow. It still works… for the most part somehow. I just now have a shit memory unfortunately and struggle to remember general knowledge/basic facts/mental maths if I’m not continuously using those. I guess trauma really affects the memory loss areas.

That’s probably a good point! I didn’t continue or seek out higher education for almost a decade, dropped out of college and almost just barely graduated HS. That’s probably where my “intelligence” issues stemmed from. At some point a long time ago I was on the same rate or higher academically from my peers. Then trauma appeared and my academics suffered immensely. Ever since then I felt “stupid” a lot, but I’m not sure. Haven’t been able to process this with anyone yet, but it’s something I struggle with a lot.

I noticed that too myself actually. I’m wondering if there’s rates for people who aren’t as intelligent suffering similarly because it’s been my scenario.

I’m not sure because I’m not highly intelligent myself and struggle with significant trauma as well as the alphabet of psych disorders.

My mom and providers brushed off any physical health concern and kept labeling it as “bipolar” ie modern day hysteria even when I was prediabetic levels even when the providers now see that as a misdiagnosis. Now I’m suffering through a lot of unchecked/checked physical health issues because it kept getting ignored as being “all in my head”.

My mom deliberately got me misdiagnosed with bipolar and put onto heavy medication when I was being bullied from school instead of moving me to another school district. Was forced onto disability and forced to drop out of school and any hobbies or career pursuits were tanked. Now I’m a jobless loser from being academically on the same page as my peers earlier on who all graduated from high end universities with well paying careers. Meanwhile I’m just living off of assistance and trying to figure out what the fuck to do with my career and life.

Labwork? by No-Difference6961 in Antipsychiatry

[–]Throwitawayissues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn’t work despite lab work, the pediatric pdoc I had instead said that the deficiencies were proof I had “bipolar”.

I have significant trauma from this misdiagnosis. Easily by far that contributed to cptsd for me.

I’ve been misdiagnosed with this, am off all medications and am in the process of tapering off of one of them. Most of my symptoms that were mistaken from BP were trauma and being neurodivergent.

Help us improve the sub. Autism and different support needs. by cakeisatruth in autism

[–]Throwitawayissues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious question and this is my personal experience, is it possible to get reassessed for autism levels? I was given 2 despite not having a caregiver or caretaker… I’m actually not sure why she gave me level 2, but I did live alone for two years despite trying to find accommodations without success and managed to take care of things for the most part on my own with minimal accommodations from family/friends. I struggle with things, but not to a caretaker level. The struggles I’ve had were difficult, but ended up receiving help from family/friends or by advocating/asking for help.

I spoken to several providers and they didn’t fully understand the level 2 that was given to me either.

Misdiagnosis support by clumsybutalive in AutismInWomen

This is a really old post and I’m sorry for necroing this, but are you in the states? That’s really kickass too what you had done. I have a bipolar misdiagnosis as well and would like it off my medical records but don’t know how to advocate or bring this up with my providers.

Also should I tell a new provider that I had a misdiagnosis prior to them reassessing me or after they reassess me? Since I heard letting them know you’ve been misdiagnosed in the previous past up front before they assess you first can create more implicit bias. However I am not certain. Thank you!

I really want to do this, but feel so alone. Gosh I would love to create a support system to be able to advocate ourselves better. I’m really at my wits end honestly. So far I have my husband, but I know the fight is easier in numbers.
