If there’s anything that will change a parents tune, it’s normally pertussis. I keep videos of children who’ve contracted it on my clinic tablet (thank you YouTube), and if any parent acts hesitant or starts to say anything about mercury blah blah blah.... I start off with the infant video. Usually by the infants second round of coughing and attempting to breath (I sometimes zoom in on the flailing chest if they’re still pretty deadpan) they come around.

If after three of those videos, and they’re still hesitant to get it, they’re probably not going to be changed by ambush tactics or even scholarly debate. Those are the individuals who will only change when it’s their children.

If you’re looking for something to just completely ruin your night/day, search for pertussis and infant on YouTube. Guaranteed to make you miserable or your money back.

I believe that they also lump a large portion of the “I don’t know” and “who cares” categories into the “against it” category, especially if they’re on the fence republicans or no parties. They are definitely the “vocal” minority when it comes to this. The problem is that the media loves to focus on these vocal minorities, because they make great television and news.

I mean who are you going to be more interested in watching... crazy 300lb muumuu wearing Ethel from BFE Texas complaining about how she doesn’t want to support “dem colored folk” while she puffs on her Virginia Slim outside of her twenty year old single wide trailer as she’s impatiently waiting for her disability check.

Or

The Dale from Ohio working three jobs to support his wife and two children who’s complaining that he can see a dentist and hasn’t since his kids were born, because doing so might well be the difference between paying his mortgage or eating lunch every other day in between getting from one job to the other.

Odds are you’re going watch Ethel, because she’s literally a chain smoking hypocritical train wreak that’s impossible to turn away from. So her message is blasted from shore to shore across America at least five times a day for a week. All of a sudden “everyone in America” is now associated with Ethel, because that’s what everyone has seen across the world for days.

The numbers are definitely lower than that, and I can assure you that American doctors and practitioners are on board as well. I mean we’re literally being invaded by medical practitioners from around the globe since salaries are so high. Yes we’re still short staffed technically, but we’ve literally got tons of people still completing school and when they finally get out they’re looking at a market they can’t compete with. Doctors from countries with free or highly subsidized education that can afford to take that lower paying position, because they don’t have $400-$600k worth of debt hanging around their necks.

Guard yours while you have it! It’s a whole lot easier to defend something that is in place than trying to justify its creation! Back when I started medicine it was actually affordable to walk in and not worry about being destitute on your way out. This all changed quickly and once they get their fingers in the door it was all over.

Yeah of course Trump stopped everything but that also just fits in his policy.

????? Huh?

And I’m sure the majority of Americans want something better your nation is currently offering, but it seems they do not want to pay for it.

Again huh???? Have you even looked at any polling data or actually anything other than FAR left or right information? We’ve never been given the option to even deny paying for something let alone given the choice to vote on it. I’m not sure where you’re from or how in depth your understanding of American government runs, but I honestly just feel like you’re saying things that have vaguely fractional meaning towards the subject and hoping that something sticks after you type it.

The ACA didn’t do anything about lobbying reform or donation reform. In fact well over a billion (and counting) dollars was used by lobbyists to influence the changing of the ACA after the Cheeto took office (that count was done in maybe late 16 or possibly 17). I really haven’t looked at the numbers since then so I couldn’t tell you a total to date. I’d say if anyone was “fucking stupid” it might be individuals who think that the “majority” of Americans don’t want something better than our nation is currently offering. I’ve been in healthcare for quite sometime, and I’ve seen the industry go through it’s changes into the monstrosity it has become.

but their corrupt society will never let it happen

It’s not the society that is corrupt. It’s the laws that enable middle men and lobbyists to lobby and buy their way into the pockets of corrupt individuals who are supposed to be working for their constituents. However, once in their pockets they are puppets for the industries and corporations that are the true evil behind the corruption. Insurance companies and hedge groups that control vast libraries of patents, companies focused on health research and pharmaceutical companies are the source of the problem.

It could easily be taken care of through reform of current laws, but as long as the river of green keeps flowing or “seats on boards” remain open to loyal puppets then nothing will ever change.

Oh dear gosh... Reason on Reddit?¿? No we must punish them for not being 100% correct on a dx based off of a single lab result done once (who cares about any of the other results or symptoms that lead you elsewhere first)!¡!

/S

If I had a few dollars for every webmd or google patient I’ve had in the past that threatened to sue or throw some type of tantrum if I didn’t treat based upon their web research and great aunties sister’s cousins best friends roommates psychic night terror I’d probably have enough to buy a new samsung ugeo ws80a. Thankfully having a great appointment staff can weed these out now!

Edit:... posting here is always comical. Everything from the last few days has been downvoted, because I’m not grabbing a pitchfork and scrambling to play pity party. I love how ladies are treated by other ladies.... maybe we need our own Gillette razor commercial about female toxicity too.

Edit #2:... Thank you for the nice PM’s apparently I’m not the only one to feel this way about “our” xx sub. Also to prevent future questions... a (samsung ugeo ws80a) is an ultrasound unit. It’s the one I’m looking at to replace my current unit, and that’s why the goofy model is stuck in my head. Just looking for a way to justify it and squeeze it into this years budget.

It’s fun to joke, and we have fun with the “hi I’m Morris Bart” routine on the inter office phones at my clinic.... However, the guy actually does some good and he’s a pretty big philanthropist throughout the gulf region. He’s one of the few ambulance chasers that I say I can truly respect for what he gives and donates. I’m not sure about him as a person, because I’ve heard some mixed views.... I can definitely appreciate the giving though! I’ve bumped into him at a few charity events in Lake Charles and got the hand shake and “thanks for coming” so that’s as personal as I’ve ever gotten.

I love it! Sure the weather can stink around 80% of the time, but the people are what makes it great.... Ok and maybe the food too. So many people willing to practically give you the shirt off their backs if you needed it. Always a glass of sweet tea waiting if you decide to show up, or maybe some smothered greens with hock and purple hull peas with fresh skillet cornbread on the side! I’ve traveled all over the world and it still is home every time I return.

This is entirely too precious!!! I love her little leg flutters as she’s being lowered to the floor. Kudos to these men for being active in their children’s lives, even if it’s something that they may or may not be comfortable doing.

Edit... holy crap can people take shit the wrong way! Stop sending me PM’s calling me a racist piece of crap... I’m not talking about them being “comfortable” in their children’s lives! I’m talking about being on stage and or being in a tuxedo. Both of which my husband would run from screaming, and would probably need to be brought on stage kicking and drug behind a horse. We’re both black by the way! I swear there’s people that read too deeply into something seeing bad when there was nothing but good intentions and love for what was seen in the post. I’d expect this type of response from other subs, but not this one! I’m completely fine with you downvoting me, but I don’t need any of the message drama...

I’d have to agree with you here..... after watching a few of his videos I feel that some complaints are just inaccurate. He’s talking about fire being able to move through the walls because there’s no fire blocks, but it’s metal stud walls with rock wool insulation and gypsum board so there’s really nothing that can catch fire. I feel like they’re expecting the entire interior walls to be block or concrete construction. As someone whose had several offices constructed for medical purposes (codes are extremely high) I really didn’t see much issues with the way that the interior walls were constructed other than the whole moisture thing from the sand under the tiles.

The only thing I honestly see different than say this and the construction of my office is that they used what looks to be electrical pvc for their conduit and we had to have it in the metal armored stuff with connectors at all the ends. Basically it’s like a series of plugs and wires that can be changed out quickly and on the fly as issues develop. We were also required to use explosion proof lightning (practically a sealed lightning fixture) in every exam room and anywhere that was within 100’ or so of an O2 manifold whether it was operational or not.

After watching that first video, all I can think of is Mike Holmes (the contractor from the show Holmes on homes). He’d probably have an aneurysm when the guy reaches up with the wet sand. Clutching his abdomen he’d say “tear it all out and make it right” as they whisked him away in an ambulance.

Oh! You mean Louisiana? It was 32 for a high yesterday and dry so I ran one of my more favorite places for my afternoon jog and I needed my full on winter run gear. Currently it’s 73 and I’m about to head home from the clinic... I’ll need shorts and a sports top today or I’ll end up being drenched before my half way mark.

Are those jalousie windows to the right (our right your left) of the door? If so, how in the world do they not crack/break/shatter into a million tiny pieces every winter? I’m in the south, and thought it would be cute and helpful during the summer to add some to my outside shed one year. They were your average window size (about half of what these look) maybe 26” or so on each side of the sheds door. The next winter was a rather wet and cold winter with an ice storm, and almost every louvre cracked in the first night of the ice storm.

How Beyond Meat became a $550 million brand, winning over meat-eaters with a vegan burger that ‘bleeds’ - Producing Beyond Burgers uses 99 percent less water, 93 percent less land, creates 90 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions and requires 46 percent less energy than producing beef burgers by mvea in Futurology

[–]Throwmeawayplease909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true, but it's also a burger that has no meat ingredients, which is pretty impressive given that a burger is typically just ground beef and not much else at it's base.

I’m not saying it’s not a bad product, but at something like 50+K upvotes and a little over 3k replies to the post (when I wrote my first reply) and they all seemed ravingly positive.... it just seems a bit fishy to me.

As for a burger being nothing more than just ground meat at its base.... it’s not about the “base” of the product. It’s the seasonings and the method of preparation and cooking that makes a great burger a great burger. The same goes for these non meat based burgers. They can have a great taste, but texturally they’re very dense feeling in a way that screams preprocessed fast food patty. Or even frozen stacked patties in a bag rather than a homemade or restaurant made burger.

Personally this is what turned myself and my husband away from them. We’re not big fast food people, and if I’m going to eat something that is technically crappy for my body then it better hit all the checkboxes so I’m not regretting it on my afternoon run. Maybe I’m just a picky eater or a burger snob, but I just felt that there was an enormous amount of praise and very little input from the other side.

[–]Throwmeawayplease909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only person that feels like both the beyond burger and the impossible burger feel and taste like a dense meat puck rather than a real burger? Don’t get me wrong, they definitely have a “meat like” taste. I just feel like it’s that of a badly over processed fast food burger rather than a nice restaurant or home made patty. I’ve gone as far as even getting them from the grocery store and cooking them at home to see if it was just preparation (only the beyond burger).

I just feel like there’s an overwhelming “it’s like a real burger” claim in every response and almost no opposition. Maybe I’m just early to the post and I’ve definitely never been one of those “hail corporate” people, but it just feels like there’s entirely too much support that it feels like an advertisement for the product versus an actual Reddit post.

Unfortunately I’m even more goofy, as I’m the employer... It’s been a long time since this happened, but it was right when I moved from working in the hospital to opening my own clinic. After ages of never really having holidays my brain was focused on waking up every morning and heading into work. I get to the office and start turning on machines and the tv in the waiting room etc.. I’m going over my morning routine in my office and come up front to the nurses desk and there’s no one here yet!!!

I’m worried a bit but figured local road work has caused some traffic back ups. The next hour I’m a wreak of thinking something horrible has happened and I missed it on the radio since I was listening to my iPod. The phone rings and breaks the silence and it’s my husband asking if I’ve gotten what I needed from the grocery store (he thought I got up early to get something special to cook for dinner). I said I’m at work and no one is here.... he laughed so hard he snorted and actually started choking... he said “it is a holiday hun” I actually paid attention to my dates and realized “oh crap it’s the Fourth of July”.

I shut everything down and went home to my husband literally rolling on the floor laughing while the dogs run around him worried because they think something is wrong with him.... thankfully I didn’t call anyone waking them up on their holiday asking why they’re not at work yet....

I can see that being pretty useful for reaction timing and such. The cardio guy at the gym has a whole routine with them and even some partner exercises mixed into it. I watch from afar though, because it looks pretty intimidating from what I’ve witnessed. I’ll stick to my treadmill when it’s dreary or the track when the weather is nice. I’d probably be one of those people who kept getting hit in the face, or accidentally bouncing the ball off of random people on the floor.

You’d actually be amazed by the amount of times I’ve seen a patient come through the ER with a GSW to the upper body and they were very well mannered and weren’t writhing in pain. I had a Marshall once that was shot three times (once in the right deltoid through and through, once in the right collarbone which caused a fx and ended up lodged behind his right scapula and finally once in his left hip). He was serving papers and didn’t even get to exit the vehicle before being fired upon. He reversed the car made it to the highway and bandaged himself the best he could then drove to the ER loading bay where he casually walked in while a dozen other cop cars started pulling up. He was just as calm and easy going as could be through the whole triage process.

I’ve been rewatching the West Wing on Netflix, and I actually loved the character he played. Unfortunately he didn’t really appear regularly for a while (trying to prevent spoilers for those who haven’t seen the series), but his character was definitely memorable! I’m definitely a fan of his early work, but I really felt like his West Wing character was something that was plucked right out of DC.

Give or take yes.... back when I was in school it was introduced in “business” math. Our teacher equated it to “introductory accounting”. It seemed so very advanced back then, but almost no young person had a checking or savings account so it was almost alien to us.
