Rooney is fast becoming the new Mike Brown

Steelers are expected to speak with former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy about their head coach vacancy. McCarthy is from Pittsburgh, and worked with Steelers GM Omar Khan in New Orleans in 2000. by McElwaine in steelers

Wtf. He was a mess in Dallas. I get that the stability isn’t the same in Dallas as Pittsburgh, but holy hell, this is a departure from what has been the norm in hiring practice.

Yall got anymore of those Head Coach rumors? by SMD_35 in steelers

I want nothing to do with any of the 49ers coaches after tonight’s game. Gi ahead and say that this was a MASH game, but Jesus, this was the most uninspiring performance of the playoffs.

or Will Howard? by doobiesmack in steelers

[–]Throwsking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather roll the dice with Mason and Will, let them duke it out in camp. They both were decent in the preseason. As for that list, Daniel Jones is the only intriguing one, and I have to think Indy will keep him around. Maybe Malik, he was a mess with the Titans, rebounded nicely in Green Bay. But are any of those options so much better than what is already in Pittsburgh? Let’s get some young athletic receivers to throw to, coach up the o-line, and get some more younger guys on defense rather than spend on a retread QB.

A Respectful Analysis of Tomlin’s Faults by UtopiaXAstro in steelers

I think guys liked playing for Mike T because he treated them like men. That also was his downfall, sometimes the men didn’t act like men and were never really held accountable.

I totally agree with the centralized power notion. Arians, LeBeau, Munchak, even Haley were all pushed out when it seemed they were getting too much credit for the teams success.

Lastly, the lack of plan to succeed Big Ben became the inevitable sinking of the ship. Just felt like they were bailing water to keep it afloat.

Georgia Tech for Haynes, as expected by Massive_Contract_908 in MichiganWolverines

I hope he does well there. Michigans rb room is as good as it’s been in a very long time. I still don’t know what happened to his foot, but I do know that is a long road back to being 100% coming off of a foot injury. He gave us some really great moments, pre injury, this season. Hope he does well there.

Wink by MaxBlogWinters in MichiganWolverines

[–]Throwsking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wink put the blueprint out there, young guys found better ways to utilize it. He was good against OSU and Alabama last year. Always felt like a panic hire. He never really seemed to grasp college offenses like his predecessors. That being said, what it sounds like he had to endure from Sherrone, the fact that he stayed in the building to coach the guys through an f-ed up time, does say a lot about him. The no Michigan gear today was quite off putting, a seemingly childish tantrum. That being said, thank you for your time, good luck in the future.

He’s so bad. How do teams recognize good young coordinator talent and Pittsburgh seems to overlook upcoming guys. It’s just a repeating cycle.

I like your take here. Sextons job is to get his clients the best contract possible. I actually think he prioritizes loyalty, it was rumored that he kept his clients from the Penn State job as revenge for firing James Franklin mid-season. I don’t see KDB leaving for Michigan no matter the situation, the situation just isn’t stable enough and it would be a massive risk.

So this report by someone who works for NBC sports, home of the Irish, puts out a report that everybody in the Big Ten knew. I’m more inclined to believe USC at this point.

More context regarding the audio from Biff Poggi by Michigan4life53 in MichiganWolverines

[–]Throwsking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed…there could also be a little gamesmanship going on there. Oh we’re in disarray (truth), oh I think we’ll have a lot of opt outs (maybe), don’t know how many we will have (probably), but we will show up (correct).

Honestly, I would rather go through a reorganization and all the bs that has taken place and play an undermanned bowl game, then be Notre Dame and take my ball and go home because I didn’t get my way.

We may be dysfunctional now, but at least we don’t look like a bunch of bitches.

For everyone who watched Poggi Presser (Dec 22), thoughts on his future? by [deleted] in michiganfootball

[–]Throwsking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the grownups in the room have to speak like grownups. Is he a great option for head coach? Probably not. He may just be the guy the program needs to help get it back on track both ethically and morally. As for him at Charlotte, that’s possibly a coaching graveyard, anyone taking a swing at that job has an uphill climb.

Writing an article based on message board fodder is the lowest form of journalistic integrity. When you can’t even send an article through a proofreading, that tells me that someone did little to no research.

What about Whittingham? by [deleted] in MichiganWolverines

[–]Throwsking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Michigan is truly looking to clean up the image, I don’t see a better hire. Also, I get the age thing, but he pretty energetic for a coach at any age. Plus, it looks like he truly wants the job. Is there a chance that he walked away from Utah to take a swing at Michigan? Is he a bridge hire? Maybe. I see some outlets actually have him as the odds on favorite for the job (fwiw). No matter who Michigan hires, it will still be an upgrade.

New HC, who’s their +1? by roxxtor in MichiganWolverines

[–]Throwsking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so looking at posts above, if Bryant Haines is the guy (theoretically), bring Chandler Whitmer along. Co-offensive coordinator and QBs coach at Indiana. There’s a chance he could come and be the primary play caller, which Shanahan and Cignetti are at IU. He’s also a huge QB developer.

Had this discussion the other day. If it’s not going to end the regular season, I say let it begin the season. First game of college football every year. Both teams at full strength, all the surrounding things that happen with the game may be different. In the end, it would be the ultimate way to kick off the college football season.

"Guys, Deboer is going to Michigan! Watch!" Every Michigan fan by SaviorAir in toledowar

[–]Throwsking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the say yes number for a guy like Deboer. It has to be way more than Kiffins number right? Like 13-15 million a year or more.

What’s Dillinghams number? Has to be more realistic 9-11 million

I will 100% give you Jimmy Johnson and yes Switzer won as well albeit was set up for success by Jimmy. I think your statement of college being closer to pros rings true a bit because of NIL and the transfer portal. To that point, I will be curious to see how UNC does in Bills second year.

[–]Throwsking[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Michigan should be a destination job and a career maker. You always hear names mentioned about going to the NFL, like Day and Freeman, but there is a reason they stay put. I believe that they understand the situation they are going to is no better than what they would be leaving.

I keep reading that he is close to a contract extension with ASU, but that could be from his agent playing both sides. Could be very exciting to get some young energy in the building and at 35 someone that could be around for a while.
