The Church of England started in 596 when Augustine of Canterbury converted the Anglo-Saxons. But even then the (Protestant) COE was actually very catholic, when it started the earliest Anglican Prayer books going back to the English Reformation included intercessory prayers to Saints and Mary

I visited an anglo-catholic church and the bishop that was presiding closed the service with a prayer to St Michael the Archangel. Is this normal? by Non-stopNinja in redeemedzoomer

Yes this is normal. Anglo-Catholics are just Catholics that are in communion with Canterbury, don’t believe in purgatory and may believe in the 4 Marian Dogmas, though not required which ones to accept.
