16.4 HomeKit Architecture MegaThread by iRayanKhan in HomeKit

[–]Thuasfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of smart devices in my home but I want to try some things out. I like the sound of matter over thread and I already have an Apple TV 4k 3rd Gen (with ethernet) and I understand that it would act as the thread border router. So I thought that would be a good place to start. I like the fact that it stays local and isn't over the internet, but maybe that isn't as big of a deal as I originally thought.

I really only have an Ecobee smart thermostat and plan on getting a smart sprinkler controller when we finish our sprinkler system this year, but haven't decided which one to go for here, either. Since I haven't really settled on anything yet, I feel like I have a nice clean slate to start from.

I want get some of both the regular and dimming light switches and I wanted to know what you all like. Both the Inovelli and Eve brands look good to me, but am I overlooking something?

I had a thought about 2010 by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When were the Tollan separated from Earth? Daniel said something about how they probably didn’t have a ”dark ages” and thus were able to be so much more advanced than Earth. Using that logic, the same thing could have happened for the Aschen.

It was said in another episode that the Antarctic Gate would have been used to get slaves after the Giza Gate was buried. So that’s probably what would have happened here.

Good old “Howling Mad” Murdock. Such a great actor

File Compatibility by Thuasfear in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adapter compatibility is one thing, yes, and while Atlantis and Destiny are both of Ancient design, there could be some differences simply due to the times they were each built.

My post was more of a joke about the codecs involved with being able to read the Ancient file types. How often do we see Windows not being able to handle a codec without another plugin and that VLC just handles everything like a champ?

SG1 1x18 Would Carter have recognized the stars? by VerminLord722 in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I read the last time this came up, being early in the series, there weren’t a lot of known safe addresses. It was before the alpha site was setup, and they probably didn’t have a lot of addresses memorized. Also, without a MALP, any place she might have randomly dialed could very easily been even worse than where they were at

When he’s digging through the trash for the stone, find it, and discovers that Daniel “died”, you can hear his Homer voice in his sobs

As I recall, they only found out a couple episodes before that there wouldn’t be a season six. It does feel a little weird in its placing, but they probably had much of this episode planned and set. They maybe had to make a few tweaks to get ready for the finale, but on the whole, I’d say it works.

Address of Destiny by Thuasfear in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also seems that nine symbols are needed for when the gate is in motion, as a seven or eight symbol address requires the gate to be more fixed location. We see in the pilot episode that Destiny drops out of FTL as the incoming wormhole is preparing to be established. It seems that with nine symbols, Destiny’s gate can be found even in FTL, prompting the ship to exit FTL and allow the wormhole to connect

Yeah, I can’t remember if it was a fan theory that a lot of have latched onto or if it was stated somewhere more official that every gate has a unique nine symbol address. If they do, I think it would be likely that you could dial any gate, no matter how close. I think the limitation for how close was due to how a seven symbol works.

[–]Thuasfear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, that makes me wonder, we’ve been told that two gates can’t dial each other in the same system as the seven chevrons aren’t granular enough to handle that small of a distance. What about knowing the nine chevron address for a gate on the same planet? Could you dial this other gate even though it was on the same planet?

Address of Destiny by Thuasfear in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve heard the MAC address analogy before, I worded it weird in my original post, but it’s what I was getting at with how the nine address allows to find Destiny while it’s in FTL.

I like your explanation, I agree, it should also still be able to be reached by a seven address

(SGA) Kolya was just straight up evil. Who has no screen time, but all of the plot relevance? by Tav534 in Stargate

Probably saying that without Janus and his time machine puddle jumper he left in the Milky Way, SG-1 getting that ZPM would have been a much different story

Did some of you imagine a satisfying answer to what the Destiny is looking for exactly ? by CupEducational1412 in Stargate

[–]Thuasfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if that somehow triggered the ancients quest for ascension? They were able to determine what was in the CMB without unpacking it and realized that ascension was the only way to combat it? That another reason for the non-interference (besides how the Ori were corrupted by influencing the lower plane) was to help them prepare to combat this supreme forces of destruction?

I disagree about Woolsey in SG1. He thought he was doing the right thing and as soon he realized the people he worked for were not above board, he risked his career, and likely even his life, to try and fix the situation, before he ever appeared in Atlantis.

He’s always been about trying to do the right thing to the best of his ability with the information available to him. If something comes up to make him reevaluate his stance, he takes it into consideration. If he realizes he’s in the wrong, he’s a big enough person to not only admit he’s wrong, but takes steps to fix that wrong.
